    Option

Power football. Option. Spread option. You can do all of it if you have an O-line and receivers.
  2. Why are so many people scared of Scott Frost? We hired an ex-NFL o-line coach who destroyed the Raiders team that Gruden built. We fired a running backs coach who spent his whole life at Nebraska because he couldn't beat Top 10 teams. We then hired an ex-defensive CO, that really never did recruit anything that he won with. Think about where this program has went to find that splash hire and ask yourself if those were worth it? We hired Riley, bad call, but he has coached for several years at a Power 5 school with a .500 record. I see all of these people now wanting to hire Les Miles.......? Wow- I don't get why Frost scares off so many when he is doing a decent job of rebuilding a limited football team in UCF. Limited resources, limited facility, and 5th fiddle in the state of Florida. Odds are against Frost to ever succeed there, but in year one they were bowl eligible.
  3. Les Miles is Frank Solich 2.0. Did great with Saban's recruits and once it was his program 8-9 wins was max. Same goes for Pelini. He got to coach a defense that was recruited by Saban. We need those who can build a program and have the energy to build a program. Miles is older than Riley, and we had fits for hiring that old ball coach. He couldn't find a good OC for years to coach really good NFL talent in the Bayou.
  4. How often do we circle the wagons before the wheels just fall off and can't be recovered? Heck, even though Cally, Bo and Frank could not win the big games, they didn't lose to this kind of opponent in year 3. This is year 3, not year 1! We had all of these losses in year 1 with Riley and Co. I said it then and will say it now. The losses we had the first year don't happen if your trending up.
  5. Vegas knows what they have seen, what about the rest of the nation? If NIU was a fluke, we would be a solid 14 favorite.
  6. Have you seen Iowa play? Minnesota ? Don't worry about Wisky and Ohio St, we can't compete with those two first!
  7. No matter what happens the rest of the season, the future doesn't look bright. NIU is not Southern Miss or SMU or BYU. NIU is a solid Mac program with some decent talent and obviously solid coaches. The talent on the field showed me that we are not up to standards of a Big 10 school. Both sides of the ball. Did this team overlook NIU, sure did. Did we have the horse to remove a 14 deficit, not really. NIU muffed a Punt that allowed us to make a comeback, big mo was on our side and then they walked right thru our defense to score on a 6 play drive. Years past we would have won the game, won the game by a few points but overwhelmed the other team when it was time. What is the insight for what lies ahead for this program? We are skating a thin line, looking more and more like Iowa ST or Mizzou than what a once powerhouse program looked.

  9. Scott Frost offers the same options that Stoops showed up with a OU 20 years ago. He will bring in a staff of young hungry coaches who will go out and beat down doors to get recruits. We keep hiring has beens, never beens, and also beens. We keep bringing in irrelevant coaches and staff's. No hunger. Defeatess attitudes come into here. We need young hungry coaches. Stoops went into OU with most of what built KSU into a near national contender as assistants. Venables, Stoops, Mangino. They were young and excited to do what they did in year two, a NC. I don't know if our cupboards have that talent for a two year complete turnaround, but I am guesssing that with a couple great recruits, were relevant in a hurry.
  10. If your relevant, they will play anywhere as long as they win and get NFL exposure. Lawrence Kansas gets some of the best of the best for basketball and get some of the worst for football. Its about winning, tradition and exposure. Starts with winning. You can't lose games to lesser teams. You can't lose to Iowa every year. Your not going to win every game every year, but you cant keep getting blasted by Top 10 teams. Spring an upset and watch the recruits coming. OU is the model. Getting that right fit for a coach is out there.
  11. Its funny that almost every name that gets mentioned is not either good enough, right fit, experienced enough, or just plain silly. In my opinion, the only name that will actually be worth giving time and the checkbook to is Scott Frost. He is the combo of what worked here in the past and has some tools that could lead us into the future. His name getting around in the FLorida HS ranks is a plus for recruiting. His pro days are a plus for recruiting. His NC ring while being a player here, is a huge plus that few could ever offer up in recruiting to here.
  12. Chip Kelly is a fluke. He had Nike money. Nike money can recruit some of the best, just ask Altman! Bieliema can win in the Big 10. He has a proven track record in the Big 10 Venables is a great name, but he hasn't proven really anything other than coaching defenses at schools with a great recruiting Head coaches. You can pick apart any name that gets thrown out. Really, unless your Urban Meyer, Nick Saban or Dabo Swinney you have some flaws right now.
  13. Most college teams have a mobile qb. Most. Roll out passes, run pass option plays, and straight up qb draw plays they run. They are not dual threat, but most can move enough to keep the defense honest. If you don't have some of that in your play book, most defenses will just pin their ears back and collapse the pocket. Not hard to figure that one out. How many times did Tommy roll out and and make a play either by running or passing.......alot. We don't have that option to allow our slower receivers to make cuts to get open. Is all lost right now....no. Can we we 8 games this season....not seeing it right now. Do we want this team to win 8 games this season? Good question. We don't like to root for losers, but I really think that Riley is fired at some point whether now this season, or in a couple more. i think right now, this season is enough of a sample size to move on.
  14. First off, as of right now Nebraska is not an elite job. T.O. wasn't an elite coach when hired. Bob Devaney wasn't an elite coach when hired......! They figured it out. They found ways to recruit and win here. The difference is you at least saw signs of a winner being built in there early tenure. We haven't seen that from anyone since Solich. Find me an elite Coach who will leave what they have already to come here and take a chance on buidling a winner...........Stoops was having issues with some boosters. They wanted brother Mike fired, and Bob wasn't going to do it. Thats what really happened in all of that. But if I were going to start a search, he is the one first on the list.
  15. I was sitting in a bar once and watched us get beat by NIU and said man Nebraska sucks, they should hire Scott Frost, and to my amazement he was sitting there and said Hell yes, I would too! Come on spew shooters, no one knows what anyone of these guys would do if actually offered the job.
  16. I read on some recruiting guru's website that once you get past the Top 15 ratings for recruiting its a crap shoot. In other words its easy to miss on some players either because they are overrated, or they are just complete busts. How many teams rated over 15 ever win the National title in this day and age? 29th or 90th, its all a matter of a few stars. It also shows that you can take a bunch of 3 star players and coach them up. Something that hasn't been done here for 20 years. Coaching up players.....interesting concept!
  17. Talent gap is glaring. Oregon is laying the wood to Wyoming. Last two games we have allowed 56 first half points. Even though our offense gave up the 14 today, nevertheless we have been outscored 56-14. See how fast most teams receivers are compared to our............
  18. Its time to take off the white gloves and lay it out on the line. For too long the media has been too soft on both parties. I am guessing that by November Trev is in place and by December we have our next new coach. We only have one more chance to get this ship righted. To many Big 10 teams improving and winning. Indiana, Purdue, and Minnesota all look like better teams this season than last.
  19. In basketball you can see a lower level team beat the likes of UK, UNC, or KU. That happens. In football it doesn't happen very often. The reason for that is talent. This game showed the nation what talent level we actually have. NIU was the faster team on the field. They were more physical. Even on an off day, your talent should win out. Today was a replay of our first two games. Our lack of talent is not a fluke. Big 10 teams in general will have a field day against this setup.
  20. Top 10 coaching what if's 1. Bob Stoops 2. Scott Frost 3. Troy Calhoun 4. Brett Bielema 5. Brent Venables 6. Frank Solich (remove the curse) 7. Les Miles 8. Chip Kelly 9. Gary Patterson 10. Mike Leach Top 5 are my serious coaching for hire.
  21. No matter when we fire a coach, its going to look terrible. We need a plan in place, coach in place before we ever fire this one. The Solich curse is lingering on and on. Sooner or later, I think we will get the right guy in place. We can't keep going down this road of losing games to sub par teams. No disrespect to NIU, they came in here and won the game but are not capable of winning more than a handful of games in the Big 10 each and every season. They can group together for one game each season, but don't have enough in the tank for a whole season.
  22. Les Miles is basically a little bit better version of Riley. I wouldn't see up winning more than 9 games a year, but we wouldn't lose to NIU.
  23. Big 10 is to blame for alot of the other sports. Don't have ties to Texas for recruiting baseball players. Volleyball is the only sport reaping any kind benefits. Baseball is getting better, but against Big 10 competition. Nationally we don't compete like we once did.
  24. I like the Big 12 idea, but were sell outs for a conference where we even look like bigger losers. Trying to recruit players from the east coast area to compete in the Big 10.............has never really computed inside my head. Chip Kelly had Nike money...........we don't have Nike money to draw in recruits. He never won a title either. Bob Stoops is the dream hire at coach. He has Big 10 ties from playing and coaching at Iowa. Wouldn't be in conference against OU, but would have a game scheduled already..............? In all reality, Frost as HC and Trev or who ever else at AD. We need traditional stability. I can't believe people willing to sell out for Kelly and his fluky offense.......I mean really he is another Leach like gimmicky coach. Les Miles can recruit, but only won with Saban's players.......?
  25. Retire. That would regain my trust back. We have to fire SE, then give Riley the option to be fired or retired.
