  1. It sure looks like this defense only works with all-american type defensive backs.
  2. A problem with firing Riley now, If I understand the buyouts correctly, is we are paying Bo $150,000/month and Riley's buyout would be $170,000/month. Paying $320,000/month (3.8 million/yr) for people to not coach here doesn't leave a lot of money for a new coach
  3. Good points Landlord, and I want to be optimistic. My concern however, is that three of our losses can be directly tied to poor end of game coaching. How can we be optimistic that will improve at this point in MR's career?
  4. Ozigbo averaged 10 yards per carry, but only had 7 carries. I think "refuses to establish the running game" is more accurate than can't establish a running game
  5. I'm becoming a little more pessimistic. Starting year I thought 9-3. Now I think we beat Illinois, Rutgers and Purdue. Lose 3 of 5 to Northwestern, Mich St., Minn, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Finish 7-5
  6. I think we lose to Michigan State plus 1 other (hope it isn't Iowa). I think 6-2 wins division.
  7. Entering season, expected 9-3, but thought we'd split BYU and Miami. Hopefully we'll win one I didn't think, so hopefully still 9-3.
  8. Wisc., nothing positive to take from that game. Embarrassed on Nat'l TV.
  9. I think to be successful in the Big 10, we do have to be able to run the ball. That doesn't mean we have to go back to the 90's and be a run first team. I think balance is the key. I'd like to see anywhere from a 50-50 to a 60-40 split between pass and run, and don't really care which is 60 and which is 40. I also think the best way for Tommy to help us with his legs is not with designed runs, but to take off running quicker if no receivers are open. If he does this 3 to 5 times a game it will keep defenses honest. Having said this, I think the coaches know best how to use the talent they have to work with. I say all this as a fan, acknowledging that I have zero coaching experience and haven't played football since the 8th grade (and I'm close to 50 years old, now)
  10. So our run defense wasn't that bad last year, because a lot of those yards were on Jet sweeps? Those were read options if I remember correctly. Melvin kept looking for an angle to run on and he seemed like we forced to the outside pretty well, but had no one to stop him once he got there, thus NCAA record. Yeah, your are correct, I believe it was the year before that Wisc. lit us up with the jet sweep in the ccg. I still think our issue after game one is about running better, not more often.

  12. No, not done. I would say still will win 7 to 9 games, and lose none of them by more than 17 points. Unfortunately, that is a step in the right direction.
  13. We averaged 3.4 yards on 37 run plays and 7.8 yards on 41 pass plays. I know I'm being Captain Obvious here, but we don't need to run more often, we need to run better.
  14. Yeah, I would say a lot to be optimistic about. Before the game, most thought it was a "toss up" game, it ended up being a "toss up" game that we lost on the last play, and now it seems like many on the board think the sky is falling. I don't get it.
  15. I liked Bo, but thought someone else might do better, if they made the right hire. It's obvious they didn't make the right hire. The haters got what they deserved, an NCAA record bust, be careful what you wish for when you fire a 9 win coach. Present day Osborne wouldn't stand a chance against this instant gratification generation of fools. Seems ironic to have these two lines in the same post.
  16. Wins: South Alabama, Southern Miss., Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers and Iowa Split: BYU, Miami Lose 2 out of 3: Wisc, Minn, and MIch State 9-3
  17. This is an unfortunate perspective, and hopefully not one shared by the mainstream of college students.
  18. My personal beliefs have gone back and forth on this issue. So, i finally decided that if i'm not sure, it's best error on the side of life, and being opposed to the death penalty. But admit that I don't lose much sleep (actually I don't lose any) when someone who deserves to be put to death, is. There are two arguments/comments that have swayed me; and that kind of go together. 1) It's easy to to be for the death penalty when you look at individual cases. However, when you look at how the death penalty is administered overall (unequally applied etc) it becomes easier to be opposed. 2) It's not about whether certain people deserve to die, but do we as a society have the right to kill. (talking about death penalty, not warfare or protecting ones home/family)
  19. Bed between 9-930. Up around 5. Favorite time of day is between 5 and 6 am, before anyone else is up and before I start getting ready for work. Can either read or pay bills etc without being bothered.
