  1. With 16 teams, pods make the most sense: Within your own pod you play 3 games. Against each of the other three 4-team pods: you play two teams each year, (so half of the other teams). That's 9 conference games. And the best part is players play every team in the conference, home and away, every four years (a student-athlete's career). It's unbelievable to me that with only 14 teams now some of our players will never play against Michigan. They'll play a bunch of non-conference teams twice but not one of the most historic teams in their own conference. It's stupid. You can group the pods to make divisions however you want, so you then have a CCG.
  2. There are a handful of douchebags on Twitter embarrassing Nebraska football fans no matter the topic. I'm not at all surprised some of the same idiots harassing high school recruits are trolling Michael Rose-Ivey and his family. These people always impress me as immature kids, and while many of them are, some of them are probably immature adults. But let's not go all "Bo Pelini" and judge every NU fan on the actions of a few anonymous Twits.
  3. I'm very proud of the way Tommy is playing this year and happy he was recognized by the conference. He's put in a lot of work and it shows. I expect him to keep getting better as the season goes on.
  4. I appreciated Rose-Ivey's statement and these players stand. It takes a lot of courage to do something you know is going to be unpopular. I also support and agree with their cause. The police state we're allowing (and glorifying) in this country is exactly the type of thing our veterans were fighting against and is counter to the freedoms we claim to protect. During the national anthem is the perfect time to draw attention to the hypocrisy. I'd rather it not become a distraction for the football team I love, and the season I wait all year for, but that's a pretty high-class problem to have.
  5. Might be the first and last time I +1 a post that includes "Trump 2016 baby." I couldn't +1 for exactly that reason. That moron fantasizes about ratcheting up the police state, not dialing it down.
  6. ...more recently than his.
  7. It wouldn't shock me to learn that Riley and Read baited Oregon into attempting all those 2-pointers with the way the lined up.
  8. Houston struggled mightily against Cincinatti until the very end when Cincy fell apart with turnovers. Houston will get exposed by a better team if they actually play any this year. Oklahoma, Houston's good win, was way over-ranked.
  9. Oregon approaches these like a gambler: you don't leave after winning one hand- you play another. If you fail, you play another to get back ahead. If you fail again, you play another to get out of the hole. The more you fail, the more you need to go for two to get back to even. I don't have any criticism for these calls, and I don't believe there's a shred of arrogance to it. They study it and have algorithms for when to go for two and when to kick. It's that simple. Kudos to Riley and the coaches for baiting them into the attempts and the team for executing the defense.
  10. If he kicks them all they get a tie. Or, like the announcers, are we only going to criticize the plays that didn't work, and not the same ones that did?
  11. Haha. This happens to me every Saturday during Husker season. I also have trouble falling asleep on Friday nights. Honestly, it's like anticipating Christmas when I was a little kid. Glad you came and hope you enjoy your visit. Try a Runza if you get hungry during the game (hamburger, cabbage and onion wrapped in dough and baked... aka bierock).
  12. I agree Oregon isn't quite up to the level where they have been for the past decade or so. Coaching changes and losing a Heisman QB will do that to you. But they are still a good team with a lot of exceptional athletes. So no, this wouldn't be a "great win" in the sense that Oregon will be a top-5 team this year as people may have hoped. But it would still be a great win because Nebraska has struggled for a decade to beat most top-25 teams, particularly the hyped ones, just like this Oregon team.
  13. I really liked Mr. Williams play and was often puzzled by why he wasn't starting. So I assume that, besides the constant injuries, there were some behind the scenes issues holding him back (going back into the Pelini regime). I wish him nothing but good health this season hope he has a great year (unless and until we play MSU).
  14. I'd like to see Ozigbo start because I would like for our gameplan to be pounding Oregon's defense into submission, and I believe Ozigbo is the back who best can do that (with a strong helping of the O-line, TEs, FBs and WRs). If the plan is to attack the edge then Newby is the better option. I'm fine with whoever the coaches decide best fits the plan.
  15. Efficient tackling and not allowing leaky yards. If we do that we will win. That said, if our defense holds them to one fewer point than our offense scores, I'll be happy for the win. My dream scenario is that we shut down their run and physically beat the crap out of them.
  16. All those things should carry the same stigma as drunk driving, but there's not organizations like MADD working around the clock to demonize all that wreckless behavior. The problem isn't that drunk driving is stigmatized, it's that those other things aren't. That being said, 4 games isn't exactly an insignificant slap on the wrist. I agree driving drunk is irresponsible and dangerous, I just don't think it should be singled-out and demonized as some huge moral failing. If anything, driving recklessly while sober is worse... because when you're sober you should know better. That anybody is still getting a third DUI sorta speaks to our failings as a society to adequately deal with the problem. The "stick" approach doesn't seem to be working very well for anybody, except attorneys cashing in on DUI defense. Two more weeks. I can barely wait. My nephew's very first football game is today (5th grade), so I'll get a little appetizer for football season.
  17. I think a four game suspension is too much, but I don't think it makes much of a difference either way. He's a coach, not the school bus driver. The legal system will penalize him. In the meantime, I still have to drive on I-80/-480/-680 with all manner of (likely sober) aggressive a$$hole$ speeding, tailgating, cutting people off, texting, etc.,... probably some of the same people criticizing Williams' "irresponsibility."
  18. This is good publicity for NU. As for Tommy: the only thing stopping Tommy Armstrong is Tommy Armstrong. He could absolutely be much better in 2016. He's just gotta put in the work. How bad does he want it? That's a question he'll answer with his actions every day of this off-season.
  19. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes, but just from what I've read HH's recruiting and relatability to players weren't good. I wonder if VV leaving early and Fant sticking with Iowa weren't directly related to HH. Anyway, I trust coach Riley did the best right thing he could do, and I'm sure he'll do a better job given a mulligan on that position coach. If he gets someone along the lines of a Bray, Williams or Stewart I think we'll be in great shape.
  20. Tom was pretty critical when he talked about Pelini micromanaging everything with a "Hulk Smash" attitude. But I didn't get the impression it was a secret he was exposing. I think within the program people were pretty well aware of what was going on. And anyway, keeping stuff like that secret is the first indication of dysfunction. I didn't catch any of Bahe's comments.
  21. You can probably add Tavita Thompson to that list. He's the grad assistant TE coach and by all accounts is doing a great job there (see Cethan Carter). He also has experience as the D-line coach at Pacific University in 2011. He played as an offensive tackle, and is from Hawaii. His Husker Bio.
  22. Yeah, I don't believe I'd heard Tom Banderas interviewed or participating in something like this before, so it was good to hear his unique perspective (former player and parent of current player). I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I can't listen to their show in real time so I try to remember to look over their podcasts for interesting topics or guests. I was just going to listen to one segment, and ended up listening for three hours. Good stuff.
  23. There is no fun in cheating, even if you don't get caught. It's disrespectful to yourself, your sport and the fans who watch. I would quit watching CFB before I would support cheating.
