    Honest question: Mike Riley, underrated amongst the new hires? 2-2 vs Harbaugh w/a lesser OSU program (didn't have Luck nor the OL of Stanford, inferior resources, players) and gave Pete Caroll some TOUGH games vs loaded USC teams, including a win.

      I've noticed he's not really being mentioned anymore among new hires. I'd say appropriately rated, considering losses to FCS teams.

    If I learned anything from last nights game is our players are being cheated our of at least two more wins by coaching. The talent is there. Here's hoping Riley and staff can fix that and get us to the 11+ win mark.

    It's easy to have a lot of momentum recruiting for a new coach. Not sure why, but it always seems to be the case, where ever they are.

      The firing of Brady Hoke at Michigan has led to a complete destruction of their class. Sometimes it works out for you, other times against you.

    Disappointed with the lack of splash hires so far. Most of the assistants so far are okay, but the D-Coordinator is worrisome. Nebraska needs to shell out big bucks for at least TWO monster recruiters, pay whatever it takes. Otherwise transferring the OSU staff here will translate into more 9-3, 8-4 seasons.

      Well, until I see somebody on the staff that is a proven difference maker, I'll chalk the next few seasons up to being no different than the last 15 that left us conference title-less.

       

      Or you could explain to me who on the staff is a proven difference maker with previous success?

    So, if Eichorst really screwed up and Corvallis boasts better recruiting advantages than Lincoln, surely we can expect the press conference introducing Bo as the new Oregon St coach by Monday, yes?

    The stupid on this message board hurts something fierce. Some apparently can't imagine the difference between the results of a coach and the results of a brand. Newsflash ya bunch of Einsteins- Nebraska has better resources than Oregon St. You can't assume his record or championship results here will be the same as it has been there. Pure stupidity.

      I would argue that you can use this logic on any coach that's not a winner moving to a bigger program. Resources don't mean much if you don't have a winner, ask Michigan or Florida. It took Notre Dame several hiring/firings to be competitive.

    I think there's about 6 receivers in this Bama - Auburn game that are better than anything we've got.

      Gregory and Abdullah would be taken by either team. Maybe one of our DTs? Other than that, Alabama, Auburn, and a few other teams are better at 19-20 positions on the field.

    I'm not sure how anyone can come to the conclusion that Nebraska is "close" when you compare their game today with the Auburn v ole miss game or miss st v Arkansas.

      While true, we still haven't played the 'tough' teams of the Big Ten West. If Nebraska had to line up against some of the teams I watched tonight, the result would be ugly.

       

      We're fortunate that are schedule has been generous up to this point.

    Big hypothetical, but if we somehow made it to the playoff, would we be able to keep it competitive with Miss. St, FSU, Oregon, etc.?

      Basically what Count 'Bility said. Unless each conference champion is undefeated, VERY unlikely, Nebraska is in if they win out.

    Just noticed that according to ESPN's FPI (Football Power Index), the top 4 teams in the country all belong to the SEC.

    If we had more depth, I'd say we're a lock for the playoffs. Our defense will be feared, top 5 feared, and our run game is going to be good, very good.

      Let's develop a top 50 passing attack and rank somewhere in the top 100 in turnover margin first. We might also want to set our sights on the division and win the conference for the first time in 15 years before we're a lock for the playoffs.

    With FSU getting week 1 gameday that means it won't be Clemson vs FSU when we play Miami. Looking very possible now for those that want gameday.

      It all depends on how the season shakes out. I Clemson loses to Georgia in Week 1, Nebraska probably gets it. Plus, with the history of Nebraska/Miami I think it comes to Lincoln anyway.

      I'm not going to get into some kind of argument, but the only people who are pinning this loss on LeBron would have done so regardless. He could be going on 5 titles in a row, averaged a triple double, and people just want to see him fail and instantly compare him to Jordan.

       

      I don't want to come across as a LeBron defender or Jordan hater, but the reaction of people who love to hate LeBron (for little reason) is just weird.

      The idea that if Jordan were in LeBron's shoes, he would have 'willed' his teammates to be better and would've have used his 'killer instinct' to lead them to the title is laughable.
