  1. Sounds like an SEC head coach, cut throat...
  2. Diaco didn't get much of a chance here. Riley was living on borrowed time and the D didn't have a lot of 3-4 guys. It should have taken 2-3 recruiting classes to get to a decent 3-4 defense. Starting with Diaco, NU has been running the 3-4 base D for three years. the D has gotten better each year but still not where it should be. need a really mean SOB at nose guard to be good. Wish him the best (except against us and then I hope he stinks it up :)).
  3. agreed, and they have a second chance to mature and grow... never give up on a young person, sometimes they just need stability and direction in their life. once they get that they may well take off if their head is in the right place. after the 15 years of coaching I was involved with, I can tell you the number of times I watched a young person who had no structure in their lives get some and how they flourished there. sadly, I would lose those kids to other teams or places where they didn't have that structure and they reverted back to insecurity and instability. I make no claims of being a professional coach, if you take the time to learn how to teach any sport, build the structure, teach the kids what you want from them and be consistent about that (then get out of their way) you would be surprised at how much even the least talented kid can grow both in life and in whatever the sport is. sorry, think I got on a tangent there.
  4. Since Frost is from Tom's era, it may well be that the part of Mo's fate may lie with the team as a whole. Mo may have to address the whole team since he did let them down with his behavior. That would be a lot of peer pressure but it has worked in the past under Dr. Tom. it would definably be Mo's last best shot at playing D1 football. one other poster above I agree with, I don't think Mo has anywhere else to go... I hope the kids wakes up and sees that he is pissing away a golden opportunity to make a real life/future for himself. tons of talent, just needs to grow up some.
  5. seems more like they entered the prison portal instead of the transfer portal. not sure there will be many takers (transfer portal) with all their baggage. Hope they young men straiten out their act. I don't like seeing young people waste their god given athletic abilities.
  6. since he is not a grad transfer (my understanding) wouldn't he have to sit out one year? thinking he may not want to delay his shot at the league.
  7. most of the JUCO's are in JUCO for academic reasons, they do miss the first two/three years of S&C that a four year school would provide. so, I can see where they slide back some from a conditioning/competition point of view but most were recruited out of high school by D1 programs.
  8. you get the optimistic spring ball before then...
  9. while I have not coached football (at any level) I have done some coaching experience (15 years) in other sports. Great coaches can only do so much, you can dream up strategy (scheme) and practice it until everyone is too tired to walk off the field. but in the end, the players do have to execute that strategy. no coach teaches a QB how to miss-read a defense or miss wide open receivers. Nor does a coach teach a defensive player how not to fill the assigned A gape.. The players know what they need to do, when the do it as trained they look great. They get out of position and all hell breaks loose (which we saw plenty of today). If you need a scape goat then choose your poison, there are many choices there.
  10. Ok, I actually watched the game (wished I had not). I think the worst of this is that per the field announcer Scott Frost said Adrian was having a horrible game and Scott was correct. Why then did Scott choose to ride it out with Adrian. If a player is just having a bad game let them sit some. there is no shame in that. Vedral and McCaffrey both showed that they are capable backups. I guess Scott's mentality has become, Adrian is my man and if he fails so do I am and no matter what I am going to stick with him. This loss is 100% on Frost and his stubborn loyalty to a QB that clearly cost us two to three TD's by bad decisions or inability to hit the wide open receiver to trying to force a ball in when he had 15 yards of open grass in front of him. Adrian is very talented, however even the most talented plays have bad games.
  11. ok, after watching the last few games, I am becoming more convinced that this is truly a 4-8 team. that is what we were last year and apparently what were likely to be again this year. we have 4 games left to win 2 to be bowl eligible and I just don't see it happening. Perdue is struggling but we suck on the road so I would not be surprised that were the underdogs in this one and same goes for on the road in Maryland. home games, does anyone see this defense stopping Whisky or Iowa? I don't... 4-8 is seemingly most likely outcome to this season. this is a huge step backwards from last season. we can look at a lot of different reasons for this, Center/QB play (it took the center 8 games to figure out where the QB is and how to snap the ball). We have a poor offensive line (yes, it is truly offensive). The line backers miss assignments/gaps on a regular basis, D-line struggles to get a pass rush consistently leaving our D-backs to cover for longer periods then they should have to.. the list goes on and on... from poor wide out play to a immature RB that loves himself and his habits way more than the team. What have I said here that we don't already know? nothing other then the realization this team is not very good due to mostly a lack of mental discipline and toughness. Scott is a very good coach but he is no miracle worker and that is what is needed to get the entire team to care. For those who think it is time to fire someone, we did, Bo Pelini, Mike Riley, Shawn Echorst (sp?), and Harvey Pearlman (real architect of this fiasco) are all gone. if we go crazy and call for coaches heads, we a dooming this program to mediocrity for decades to come. Stability starts with the coaches, if there is no stability there, you cannot expect to find it on the field. Scott is the best coach we could have asked for (my opinion), while I to was hopeful for a year two turnaround it is obvious to me that will not happen. The best we can do, is support the team, be patient, and see what happens over next year or two. If Scott Frost cannot make NU competitive year in and year out, I don't know if there is a coach who can? If he is not the right coach, then I am starting to think there is no right coach for NU. As college football has progressed, NU has been left if the dust due to poor decisions, primarily AD's and Pearlman. How many would take Bo and his 8-9 win seasons right about now? yes his antics got old, but for the most part we were competitive to the teams we should be competitive against. I never could get over how he was good one 1-2 blowout losses every season... anyway, thanks for reading this rather long tirade. have a good one, remember to breath, the sun will rise tomorrow but next week I will probably spend game time with family and friends, not watching the game (gets old having my blood pressure get so high).
  12. yeah, the a$$ whopping on national TV is getting really old!! we may not see ESPN game day here for another 15 years or so.
  13. just think, if NU manages to win the west, we get to see Bucky again in Indianaopolis... yay us!! (good news?) we probably will not come close to winning the west.
  14. have to say Mike Riley trained me well, I found something else to do tonight and didn't watch 1 second of this. with that half time score (ESPN alerts), I was sure the score was going to be something similar to the wreck at texas tech several years ago. the score was not that bad tonight but the a$$ whopping was!! Scott is a great coach and will do wonders at his next stop but I am starting to think, there is no "Right Coach" for NU. Saben would be a big loser tonight if he coached here... Thanks Harvy (Pearlman), your hate of sports has really taken hold in this program... all you wanted to do was milk your cash cow so that is exactly what you did all the way to the program being mediocre (on a good year).
  15. should not be a penalty if the offensive player is ducking to avoid/reducing impact at last second. That is clearly not targeting (but we have seen it called). second, they never call targeting when its a running back (either receiving or dishing out), the offensive/defense linemen (in the pile) have helmet to helmet contact every play. they are often the ones who have concussion related problems later in life. Point being, Football is a rough gladiator game where players hit each other for our amusement. if you want to remove all concussions, make this flag football and leave all the gear in place.
  16. When I first saw the headline, I was thinking here is another LP. in this case we have a very immature young man who made some very bad decisions of which he should pay for. but for now, he is not LP, he didn't rape her, or beat her. he wasn't there and everyone probably had that video on their phone at his school. most deleted it as they should; he didn't and chose to send it to her.... As I said before a very bad decision. The real question here is what is appropriate "punishment"?
  17. regardless of Washington's status as a football player, I still think someone is innocent until proven guilty. in this case many seem to think the player should have been suspended on only an allegation, not actually charged with a thing (at that point). This type of "Guilty until proven innocent" mentality is something I would expect from Mother Russia, not sensible "open minded" Americans.
  18. What is your point regarding NU's awareness of this last year?
  19. $15K huh? wonder how much of that goes to legal costs... maybe he gets $100 after all that.
  20. Mills said he has not smoked pot since he left GA Tech in an article I read on line. seems to be a fairly humble kid, made some rather bad decisions along the way. Hopefully Frosts staff can keep him out of trouble once he is on campus. https://www.ajc.com/sports/college/after-hard-fall-dedrick-mills-pledges-comeback/1yjWbrdf35Ql1vZHpYMJ0J/
  21. looking at the schedule for next year and basing what those teams did this year, I can see 8+ wins (assuming our key players stay healthy all season). I don't see any reason to freak out and think we wont be competitive in all games with the chance to win. if the team plays well, defense shows decent improvement along with O-Line we should be in all the games. toughest opponents next season (Ohio St, Wisconsin, Iowa)? while Northwestern has been a pain in the behind, they lost their 6 year starter QB (tongue in cheek) to graduation. We will be fine, Frost will have the team well prepared. WAY better then what we have seen from previous HC.. aka nicest coach in the world.
  22. I recognize the name, when was he on NU's roster of players. spent last 10 minutes searching Husker Max for him. thought he was a Callahan recruit?
  23. I am with you as long as his ring on a chain around his neck counts. he is pretty fat, fingers may not be able to fit into his class ring anymore.
  24. Think we have all had our "Anna Belle's".
