  1. Glad to see this thread turned into another Scott Frost circle $%$J session. It was a good effort C N Red. To stay on topic. This is the problem when you put your eggs all into one basket. If it doesn't work out, everyone is ticked. I've seen some names floated by other posters like Dave Doeren, Venables, Matt Campbell and others that I think would make good HCs should Frost not work out for whatever reason. The issue is people are hellbent on Frost or bust. If it comes up bust, how much more fractured is the fan base going to be?
  2. No worries at all. My point is simply that the way the current CFP is setup teams from the G5 have almost zero chance at getting into the playoff.
  3. Is there some kind of Children of Men scenario emerging where Scott Frost is having the last child on earth? I get what you're saying but this is the gig these guys sign up for. If you wanna compete at the highest level, you're going to have to make some sacrifices. You wanna stay @ UCF and turn them into the SE version of Boise State? That's cool, just know that you'll never compete for national championships. Jimbo Fisher is the HC at FSU which is arguably the top dog program in the state of Florida. They can get just about anyone they want in Florida so you'd think he would have a pretty decent quality of life right? Wrong, he just got divorced a year or two ago.
  4. No, it wouldn't. Group of 5 teams don't make the playoff unless something incredibly bizarre happens. A New Years 6 bowl is about as good as it gets for the G5 teams. That being said, I did find an article from a couple years ago that outlines a scenario in which a G5 team could make it. UCF this year to me (in my eyes) doesn't meet that criteria. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/14422162/how-group-5-team-make-college-football-playoff Let's say UCF does go undefeated, do you really think the committee is going to put them in over a one loss Georgia, one loss Big Ten team/Wisconsin, one loss Clemson, one loss Big XII champ? This assumes Bama is undefeated.
  5. Those who want Frost need to hope and pray that UCF goes undefeated and/or makes a New Years 6 bowl as that's the ceiling for Group of 5 teams. Anything short of that gives UCF some extra leverage in trying to convince Frost to stay and complete 'unfinished business'.
  6. While I'd love to see Chip Kelly stroll through the doors at Nebraska, I'm not sure how doable it is. Kelly is still owed $19ish mm from his NFL stints so he's making around $6.5mm/yr through 2019. That's some decent scratch. Surprisingly his contract with ESPN states that any money he makes gets deducted from what SF owes him. Plus there's the issue of his show cause penalty.
  7. Thanks for adding Tagge's name. He popped into my head when I first started typing up my response and then I forgot to add him. Appreciate the insight on Brownson too.
  8. Humm surprisingly never won 10 games @ QB. 9 wins all 3 years at QB. Before I looked it up, I thought he'd be on the list for sure.
  9. First off, it's 'won' not 'one'. Your post is completely disingenuous as Nebraska has rarely had a traditional pocket passer @ QB. That being said...Vince Ferragamo and Brook Berringer both pop to mind.
  10. I think Devaney needs to have his job title changed to Consigliere.
  11. Ahh, yes you are 100% correct. My math skills failed me! Not sure what I was thinking.
  12. Definitely a tough call. On one hand Bryant is probably really pushing to play and when he's healthy, he's easily Nebraska's best back. On the other hand the coaching staff has a responsibility to protect the players, sometimes that's from themselves. Selfishly, I hope he's held out for the rest of the year to recover and heal up. I think we can all safely assume that any major postseason games are likely off the table. A healthy Tre Bryant would be a nice stabilizing force in '18 and '19 (if he's able to get a medical RS).
  13. I think that's a little low. Brohm at Purdue is making $3.3mm/yr plus bonuses and Brohm has a reasonably close resume to Frost. I echo the sentiments of alot of board members when I saw that Nebraska can't 'go cheap' with the next football coach hire. I think if you want to make Frost 'feel the love' you come as close to the comp package that Texas gave Tom Herman which is $5.25mm/yr plus a $250k raise per year with bonuses on top. Frost's UCF team this year is projecting to mirror Herman's first year Houston team which went 11-1 and played in a New Years 6 bowl. I think we would agree that Herman has a pretty similar resume to Frost (minus the Texas job of course) and while Nebraska certainly isn't as flashy as Texas, Nebraska certainly has a serious war chest they can pull out if need be. Look, I get that Nebraskans are conservative by nature and that amount of money is going to turn some heads. We'll certainly hear the, "TO never made xyz and look how great of a coach he was!"
  14. As long as Nick Saban is the HC @ Bama. Any job in the SEC West is going to be pretty unattractive. Plus, LSU fans might be more insane than Nebraska fans. And that's saying something! The fans helped LSU hire Ed freaking Orgeron!
  15. So...what's your take on the 25 Scott Frost accounts + the other random coaching account names HB has running around?
  16. After all, when you have to kill a man, it costs nothing to be polite. I understand the criticisms part. I'll never understand the pound of flesh crowd. Will there be people in Lincoln throwing rotten fruit at Riley as he leaves town?
  17. There's no need to be a jerk about it.
  18. More likely Nebraska around -3 or -4. Nebraska +6 would invite almost exclusive one way action which is what books typically try to avoid.
  19. You spent at least $15 more than you needed to. #suckahhhhhhh
  20. Didn't Kilkenny kick in a lot of his own money to get facilities built? I know his net worth his supposed to be north of $100mm.
  21. I learned that I should've bet more on OSU -24 Joe Burrows would be a mighty sweet QB to be running Frost's offense. Thx Tim Beck! The gift that keeps on giving!
  22. *shrugs* In this hypothetical world we're living in can I be taller? I always wanted to be 6'4 or so. That would be neat.
  23. Alberts would be a decided downgrade over the names being floated right now. Nebraska needs to hire someone with existing P5 conference. AD is not a spot to take a chance on someone.
