  1. The maddening thing when it came to Beck is the lack of consistency, he'd roll out games where Nebraska would be hanging 40+ and other times they would just lay an egg. The epitome of it for me was the last game he coached against USC in the Holiday Bowl. That USC team was loaded with playmakers and Nebraska rolled all over the field against them. I know BP did Beck zero favors when he was the HC but I couldn't help but think when I was watching that game was, "Good grief, where the heck has THIS offense been all year?"
  2. I'm pretty much ok with walk-ons being starters at your specialist spots (K/P/LS), and occasionally OL/DL/LB. You should never have a walk on at WR/QB/RB/Secondary unless something truly crazy happens/you absolutely whiff at recruiting. OL/DL can be tricky to predict and sometimes you get a guy that just makes huge strides and pushes his way into earning some playing time. For whatever reason Nebraska seems to get a pretty good LB out of a walk on every few years or so. Weber being the latest example.
  3. I'm more optimistic about someone like Burrow considering he was at Ohio State and has spent a couple years under Urban learning outstanding work/practice habits and playing at a place where a legitimate goal is CFP or bust. Plus, you might get a nostalgia bump with Burrow getting the chance to play where his family has a lot of history. Now, I fully admit that I'm a pretty big fan of Burrow and was ticked at Beck/Pelini when they didn't offer him. I would have been far less enthused about a guy like Dawkins.
  4. Ugh, unfortunate news to say the least. Johnson is a stud.
  5. If nothing else hopefully Duggan heals up to 100% and at least gets a fair shake to show colleges what he can bring to the table. That would stink big time if an injury robs him of his potential.'
  6. From a run blocking standpoint you're 100% correct, the OL was an unmitigated disaster last year as evidenced by any metric you want...eye test, traditional or advanced stats. They were pretty decent against the pass. Let me be clear, Cav needed to go and I'm firmly in the camp of 'if we get the run game going than it becomes much easier to pass block'. I agree with @tattooedhusker that the OL bounces back pretty nicely. I mean, shoot the OL probably has the highest concentration of talent from a recruiting stars perspective. They can't ALL be terrible right?!? https://www.footballoutsiders.com/index.php?q=stats/ncaaol Offense Adj. LY Rk Std. Downs Line Yards Rk Pass. 7. My favorite T-Mart game is still that 2010 shootout against Okie State. I mean that game was just flat out F-U-N to watch. Okie State was absolutely loaded on offense that year with Weeden at QB, Blackmon at WR and Kendall Hunter at RB plus you had Joseph Randle getting touches at RB and Josh Cooper at WR who was really underrated. That Okie State team was really good that year with their only other loss being a 6 point game against OU in Bedlam.
  8. This might be my favorite of the recent 'vs.' polls. Agree that there is no wrong answer here. David has been my favorite LB since Carlos Polk but my childhood bias towards the heat seeking missile that was Terrell Farley shall forever be etched onto my psyche.
  9. I think the last comment is a little unfair. Lots of different ways to skin a cat on offense these days. I don't think anyone would accuse Mike Norvell of running an outdated offense and his QBs traditionally don't run a lick outside of an occasional zone read.
  10. Yup, I can easily see a situation where that happens. Fwiw I thought POB was going to win the job this year. Clearly I was incorrect.
  11. The QB situation is going to suck a lot of the oxygen out of the room for the foreseeable future. We could easily have a situation where Gebbia wins the job this year and then gets beat out by both Martinez and Vedral the following year.
  12. Absolutely tickled to get this guy and secure the commitment. For whatever reason I think NU is going to have a dogfight with Okie Lite for this guy's services until the bitter end. I've watched enough Oregon and UCF games to know that this type of player is tailor made for NU's offense under Frost but until we actually see it, it's a little bit of 'take our word for it'. This guy is perfect for Okie Lite's offense too. Hopefully NU can hang on here because you can never have too much elite speed.
  13. I would like the ability to vote for both "Mexican" and "Yes". This poll is invalid! To stay remotely on thread, I don't really see the harm. I personally think 'vs.' threads are perfect for the slow summer months when we have absolute zippo in terms of football but hey, to each their own. It could probably do without being on the main page though.
  14. Helu all day for me, as tough as Rex with speed to burn. Rex definitely has more 'flash' plays for me, both good and bad. With Helu it's the Mizzou game. With Rex, you've got the juke against Ohio State, the killer drop against Texas and a handful of others.
  15. I think Stanley Morgan Jr already checks a lot of those boxes excepts the hands part.
  16. I'm just a total sucker for the Adidas Originals logo. I probably have 5 or 6 pairs of Adidas track pants and if I see a new pair with the Originals logo that looks pretty snazzy there is at least an 8% chance that I'll buy them knowing that I might only wear the pair twice in one year. It's completely stupid. This news about Washington is both awesome and terrible for me. UW is my 2nd favorite college team so I'm excited to see what Adidas rolls out for them. On the other hand, I'm going to drop at least $200 on new Adidas gear with that stupid logo because I'm a total fish.
  17. Good point as well. The offense just seemed to be Lord left and Lord right. He did have Diedrick as a RB his in '02. In '03..yeah you had Josh Davis and Cory Ross as the next 2 leading rushers. No wonder Lord felt he had to carry the team.
  18. Yup, fair point. I never saw him play football. He was one heckuva athlete when he played CF for Tampa Bay when he came up.
  19. It's a fascinating hypothetical. I remember Lord taking an absolute beating and wonder if Crawford could hold up, that being said, they're roughly the same size (6'2, 215ish)
  20. This is a fun one. For me it's Crawford. Dude was in the big leagues by the time he was 20. Was a 2nd round draft pick in baseball, had a scholly offer to UCLA for basketball and every option based college in the country wanted him at QB for football. One of my good friends who lived in Houston and played against Crawford swears he's the best athlete he's ever seen.
