  1. Bet Oregon wishes that every offensive play was 3rd down.
  2. The view from this Oregon writer is that the spread/voting public is insane. http://www.oregonlive.com/collegefootball/index.ssf/2017/09/expect_the_nebraska_cornhusker.html
  3. Hey, I think I actually called this one here first (in the bowl thread)! That and $5 will almost get me a cup of coffee at Charbucks.
  4. Bowls are thinking in terms of selling tickets and getting TV Ratings share. NU vs KSU would be one of the worst rated bowl games of the year, just based upon geography/population, no matter how much nostalgic Big-8 fans from the two schools might want it.
  5. SB Nation just came out with their Bowl Predictions. If they are correct that Illinois has a crack at the Foster Farms Bowl ($2,212,500 payout), then I think that is the best that Nebraska could hope for, as far as payouts are concerned. Nebraska has a better conference record than Illinois and their fans travel, so I think.. they would be more attractive to a bowl than Illinois. Nebraska vs USC would have been an attractive sounding matchup, a couple decades ago San Francisco is certainly a more interesting bowl destination for the players and fans than Detroit.
  6. EXTREME negative thinking at the very top of our program. That explains everything. "basically asked the guy" What was the exact quote? Because the way that is portrayed is VERY surprising/disappointing for a university President. U of N's reputation has certainly slipped from its glory days, but with its resources, this should still be a place where the Cornhuskers are firmly ensconced in the Top 20 all season long. What does that say to future recruiting (of players and coaches)? If he was going to leave out some emails from the reply to SBNation, the one containing THAT sentiment should have certainly been one of them.
  7. Perhaps the dumbest post in this entire thread.
  8. Does Wisconsin have Illinois receivers playing for them too? Yay. Wisc: Missed kick with the wind.
  9. You almost got to the three minute mark into the game before you started bitching! That's got to be a personal best for you. Maybe so, but he did make a valid point. (And echoed by radio announcers).
  10. I'm all about being patient with a new staff, new system, etc. But what I can't be patient about is the WAY we are losing. We would have at least two more wins (BYU and Illinois) if this veteran coaching staff showed that they understand basic clock management. And in the Miami game, the main reason we got back into it was because their staff didn't understand basic clock management. It is sad when virtually every Nebraska fan watching the game knows what the percentages say would be prudent to call next (run vs pass) and then the team does the exact opposite.
  11. +1 THIS. The IMG radio announcers both said something to the effect of: "OK, now you run the ball and burn clock with SM having no time outs, and kick the FG to put this game out of reach." When the Huskers called a pass play both of the announcers were in sort of a stunned silence. Fortunately they completed the pass, but that was inexplicable to me. I like a LOT of what I'm seeing, as these Husker's (and this program) develops. But clock management by the coaching staff needs work just to come to reach the level of expertise of the average fan in the stands, and that is hard to figure for such an experienced staff. Our lack of LB depth has the potential to be our achilles heel all season. And I don't get the sheer number of penalties Nebraska is racking up, particularly for dumb things like too many men in the backfield. On the plus side, I'm SO impressed by the coaching/system's effect on Tommy Armstrong. Our D-Line is looking very good. We've got an offense that knows it has the potential to come back from big deficits (not exactly a Cornhusker trademark in the past). I think we'll get there and we're going in the right direction, but I'm afraid that this is going to be an agonizing year for most Husker fans. Langsdorf has the potential to become a Norv Turner type of OC and turn this stint into a NFL Head Coaching job in a few years. I'm not so sure about how the defensive side is going to fare. Too soon to tell. If we fill some holes with quality with the next recruiting class I think we should be a team to be reckoned with week-in and week-out.
  12. BYU 44 NU 37 rushing 197 passing 269 Sure hoping I'm wrong.
  13. I've got a (serious) question. BYU coach has not announced his suspended players yet. That's "keeping your cards close to your vest". Why would Riley announce Nebraska's publicly so far in advance of the game? Seems to me that by telling the world early that our starting outside linebacker is not available, he's inviting BYU to test his freshman outside linebacker early and often. Why did Riley not also "keep his cards close to the vest"?
  14. Found this on Google news today, searching the last 24 hours for news about Jordan Stevenson: The link was a 404 error, meaning it might have been (temporarily?) pulled, but fortunately Google had the article cached: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache%3Awww.tjcnewspaper.com%2Fbig-ten-touts-plan-for-tougher-schedules-as-playoff-push-10828%2F&rlz=1C1QJDB_enUS643US644&oq=cache%3Awww.tjcnewspaper.com%2Fbig-ten-touts-plan-for-tougher-schedules-as-playoff-push-10828%2F&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i58.1311j0j4&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8 The sentence of interest is near the bottom: What is up with this kid? Academics, one might suspect, but now I'm starting to wonder if it is something more.
  15. Do NOT make the mistake of letting Colin Cowherd in your head and defining your reality. If you listen to him at ALL you know that he is not interested in being right, just "interesting". He also makes no bones about rooting for teams with big demographics - TV and radio-wise. (HINT: Nebraska is not a demographic that he is afraid to piss off.) He will make plenty of hay out of "Colin being wrong" if Mike Riley turns Nebraska into a National powerhouse again. There is no downside to him trashing Nebraska right now. 99% of the country will be eating it up, and he's all about ratings. I have the feeling that Mike Riley is going to do just fine at Nebraska. And he is probably just setting the table for Danny Langsdorf to be his successor at Head Coach in a few years. Two things: I'm not sure why Riley has not confirmed Langsdorf yet. Not yet signed on the dotted line? Secondly, what was wrong with Rich Fisher as WR Coach?
  16. What is Bo's contract worth, is the question? Nebraska is going to have to make up the difference, I believe.
  17. In other news, Frank Solich went 6-6 this year at Ohio University. He's been 4-4 in his conference (MAC) for the past three years in a row.

  19. After evaluating the resources, facilities, football revenues, (etc.) it appears to me that Mike Riley has been a competitive racer, even though he's been driving an AMC Gremlin. I look forward to seeing what he will do now that he has been given the keys to a Porsche. Forget the number of wins. I would have been less surprised to wake up one day and learn that Pelini hit with a domestic abuse charge than I was to learn that he was fired after another 9-3 season. He was already a black eye on the State of Nebraska with his sideline behavior, regardless of how his players were conditioned to take it. SE knew it was only a matter of time before he was a black eye to the University. Undisciplined coach = undisciplined team. His post-loss press conferences were a continual embarrassment of blaming the players and rarely taking responsibility for anything. Welcome, Mike Riley. Bo, don't let the screen door hit you on your way out.
  20. Just published at USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2014/12/04/nebraska-mike-riley-coach-oregon-state-analysis/19908547/
