  1. 2 day old news: https://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/2022/10/what-greg-schiano-said-about-noah-vedral-gavin-wimsatt-robert-longerbeam-injuries-after-loss-to-ohio-state.html
  2. What did we learn against Indiana? That we've been hearing from Frost's staff (over and over for years) that the "kids have bought in". But this past Saturday, under MJ and Busch we learned what "kids buying in" really LOOKS LIKE. We also learned what it looks like when coaches actually hold players accountable and their backups will get a chance in the game if the players underperform on the field. Frost was stupidly loyal to his "1st string" guys - regardless of what their play/effort looked like.
  3. This just in: Nebraska hasn't been beating most of the teams they beat on paper, for years now. That they did so this week, with a whole new DC and an Interim Head Coach given the freedom to make needed changes, is NOT as insignificant as you are trying to make it, Debbie Downer.
  4. I think taking Casey out after he takes a sack holding the ball for EVER was the right call. Even if the Purdy play giving Indiana a TD was the price to pay. The message sent in the sideline may have had something to do with Casey’s motivation to only miss one play after the shoulder plant & the entire offense to execute that near perfect time-consuming March for a TD in the 4th. I did not see the game on TV, but from this clip it appears that MJ is following Casey after Whipple rips Casey a new one. I’d love to know what MJ said, but I’ll bet it was something to build him up & not let him get OVERLY down on himself. I’m sure he didn’t contradict what Whipple said, but MJ’s emotional intelligence surely showed in what he said to Casey afterwards. (Did any sports reporter ask about this?) Good coaching is about knowing when to bend a player over to kick his butt - but then when to stand him back for a pat on the back.
  5. The motivation to do so is low, when the Husker fan is giving props to himself.
  6. I learned that we should show interim HC Mickey Joseph some respect & give him the support he & his staff deserve for the remainder of this season. There will be plenty of time to discuss alternatives, should they need consideration. But I feel that his experience, his character, his recruiting chops, and passion (and respect) for the Nebraska program are a winning combination that is going to be difficult to find outside of the program. Only a purposely blind man would not see that MJ has done what seemed unlikely - instill both confidence in his players & hope in the fan base - in just 2 games. I learned that having leaders with character can motivate a team to make tangible differences on the field. I forgot what it looked like when players would run through brick walls for their coaches. I learned that the odds are good that MJ and Busch will likely be poached by SOME program, if they aren’t shown the respect they earn at Nebraska & I hope it isn’t to another BiG program that NU would have to face. I learned that tackling in practice is not optional. NU cut their missed tackles by more than 50% in just 2 weeks with Busch (and 3 with MJ’s decision to reinstate it in practice). I learned we have some players that are truly Blackshirts, regardless of whether they have been given one. I learned that sitting a player that is underperforming & putting in his backup is always the right move. If that 4th Quarter is something that can be replicated consistently by the offense, we have a good chance of going bowling this year.
  7. This take didn’t age well. LOL
  8. A win after a bye week! Something I don’t believe Frost did once in his tenure.
  9. For once, I can’t wait for the postgame press conference.
  10. That offensive line looked like a UNIT with the OSU transfer replacing Benhart. Let’s see if they can do it again.
  11. As far as team improvement goes, Trev’s decision to replace Frost with MJ & then (after Oklahoma) MJ replacing Chin with Busch (with a bye week to work with) looks like a stunningly good call. Yes it’s Indiana, but the eye doesn’t lie.
  12. Thus far Indiana has a total of 10 yds rushing & 61 yds passing.
  13. The defense is remarkably better. Busch > Chin !
  14. Nebraska could do a lot worse than Lane Kiffin as your HC with Monte Kiffin & Tom Osborne as your “player personnel analysts”.
  15. Why is Doug Pederson not on the Urb-lovers wish list?
  16. Aranda beats Campbell today. Leipold has Kansas (!?!) at 4-0 with a win against Duke.
  17. Nebraska football staff is soon to be made up of largely former LSU Tiger staff.
  18. Go back in time to Week 1 of the 2001 NFL season and ask the AFC East which Patriots QB they “worry” about most. Drew Bledsoe or Tom Brady? Past performance is no guarantee of future results. I want a guy that has a great track record and, if possible, some ties to Nebraska. I’m intrigued by Lance Leipold.
  19. Another “huh?” moment in his presser was then he said that he and his brother Vance (currently DC of the Arizona Cardinals) talk every day: “we’re really tight. We talk every day. WE DON’T HAVE TOO MANY FRIENDS IN THIS INDUSTRY.” Nobody wanted to dig into that particular window into Mickey’s soul - maybe because most already knew what he was referring to. Later he referred to how “I’m going to be TRUTHFUL with them - and that’s how I survived in this profession”. This is a profession with a LOT of attrition - with people going up the ladder and down again. Seems to me that Mickey just keeps climbing - he hasn’t dropped down a rung YET. I hope Husker fans give him the support that he deserves.
  20. Gee, that doesn’t sound like southern racism AT ALL! Wasn’t that long ago that this was the justification for no black QBs in the NFL either. Maybe Mickey was smarter than we even THINK to leave Louisiana for a fair(er) shake.
  21. Mickey wisely mostly deflected the questions in his first press conference regarding his race. But I thought it was hilarious how he said “I’ve been a football coach … (stopped himself and continued) … I’ve been a BLACK football coach all my life.” But I don’t think you have to know a lot about American history (including RECENT history) to realize that people of Color need to do a lot more in order to get the same recognition as they would if they were not people of color. I think this is criminal, but an objective person might wonder where Mickey would be right now, with his personality and body of work if he were NOT a person of color. I think Trev is a smart guy and I think he knows that to give Mickey the job out of an interview process would not be a good move with much of the State of Nebraska (mostly due to his lack of Div. 1 head coaching experience). But I think that there is a reason he came to Nebraska and was asked to come to Nebraska. The writing was pretty much on the wall when Trev was hired as the new AD. And while Mickey was a great get as a WR coach, I wonder whose idea it was to make him an Asst. Head Coach? That puts him in the logical position be be named the interim HC, should SF hang himself. I believe there may have been some back door conversations about that, between Trev & Mickey - prior to his being offered the job. The fact that he would bring some LSU talent & recruiting chops was a big part of the equation. But I believe that Trev knows that there are boosters who will not be on the side of offering Mickey the gig For Realsies, until he SUCCESSFULLY auditions for the role with 9 games (plus, we hope, a bowl game). This is his greatest opportunity to shine & if he does - and Nebraska passes on him - I think he knows he can impress another school with what he could do for THEM. Trev & Mickey are playing chess, while Frost was playing checkers.
