  1. All pro game, so no recruiting, but my understanding was that he has a good rep. Would he want to come back to the college game? Would he want to leave the coast? Just wonder.
  2. BS. That would be a really poor management decision. What would they do, say, "But it's a secret, so please don't tell anybody?" The athletic department will meet with the players just before they announce it to the press.
  3. If Moos has already decided to pull the trigger (and I would be shocked if he hasn't) I suspect he is working on the contract with the next coaches agent already, or soon will be. What good does it do to fire HCMR now? It is just a meaningless symbolic act that he said he wouldn't do in the first place. Expect a Saturday morning news conference on the 25th.
  4. That hit ended Eric Hudson's football career. He did not play anymore after that. It was vicious and it was totally unneccessary. It was away from the play and had absolutely no effect on the results of the play. Eric Martin served a one game suspension which Nebraska fans crabbed about. Hudson had his whole world turned upside down. While Cunningham is certainly not my favorite, he was right on the money in this case.
  5. My understanding of the AAU issue was that the research dollars were not there. Three things in regard to that issue. One is that Ag research does not count the same and is not worth as much to the AAU research dollar metric. The second thing is that the medical collage is not part of the UNL campus (obviously), so none of those research dollars count. Nothing that the athletic department could do other than projects like those in the works on understanding concussions, etc. will help that. The third is Screw those damn Texans and the Big 10 "brethren" that voted UNL out.
  6. Call it whatever you want, it is still just a big guess. Who predicted Penn State would win the B1G through analytics last year. Reminds me of:
  7. Gill Phillips Fryar 1971 Riley I selected this way cause Gill was the best passer of the group and the coach I picked would do best with a better passer. Phillips in terms of pure ability is not really a downgrade from Rozier, although I could live with the 1997 defense and Rozier in the backfield. I would trade down on running back and defense to get the 1994 or 1995 O-line if those were options.
  8. In fairness to Banker, he coordinated 2 top 30 defenses at Oregon State from 2008 to 2014, in terms of total defense. It probably wasn't total crazy to bring him along. I was not impressed with him and some of the things he said about his installation the first spring that made me concerned about teaching the thing. I have no problem with Riley bring some staff with him. I just don't see how you could expect him to hire a bunch of people that he had not ever worked with and expect for there to be any kind of cohesion in the coaching room. If somebody could point out a head coach who did that and was successful out of the box. Now, at least he is willing to chop people that aren't getting it done. I really liked one of the things that he said after firing Banker, that he was seeing the same mistakes.
  9. Gates: Says he is 305. Said he is stronger. Motivated by the last game. Summer workouts hardest they have been. Ankle better was injured about half the year last year. Now it needs to translate from talk to action.
  10. If the defense holds up their end.
  11. Actually, it is even worse than that. Bo could curse and threaten to hat whip you while flinging spittle and inducing some subconscious fear that you might be in the blast zone when his head finally exploded, but what HCMR is doing is far more subtle and sinister. He is, of course engaging in the psychic attack. Of course they leave out one of the most common reasons why someone might engage in this type of attack. Bad calls.
  12. Defense does win championships. Michigan's defense was very good. Nebraska was 5th in total defense 12th in scoring and 3rd in rushing defense. 28th in pass defense 12th in scoring defense. Turnovers gained 24. On offense Nebraska was 1st in rushing, 1st in scoring (scoring 1 more than twice the number of TD's as Michigan. Turnovers lost 21. 19th in punt returns 11.8 per return with one TD. Net punting 74th. Kickoff returns 24.3 with no TD's (7th) Average margin of victory 30.2 pts. Michigan was 1st in total and scoring and 5th in rushing, 1st in passing defense turnovers gained 26. Michigan was 44th in scoring offense and 44th in total offense, 27th in rushing offense. turnovers lost 17. Punt returns 8.2 yd/return with 1 TD. Net punting 78th. Kickoff returns 20.3 with no TD's (58th) Average margin of victory 17 pts. Opponents: Nebraska beat teams rated (AP) 2,3,14,17 at the time the game was played. They beat teams rated 7,8,18,20,23 in the final poll Michigan beat teams rated 2,4,8,8,15,15,23 at the time the game was played, but 9,12,16 in the final poll. So. Michigan had a slight to moderate edge in defense, a slight edge in Turnovers. Nebraska had a big edge in offense and a slight edge in kicking game. Quality wins is argued both ways. I would argue that the final AP poll is a better gauge of who beat the better teams. Michigan vs. Nebraska would have been a great game, but I suspect Nebraska would be favored on a neutral site and (of course) I think the Huskers would have won. That being said, I have no problem with the split title.
  13. This. Makes me wonder if there was a little more damage in the knee. Had meniscus surgery in the spring after my freshman year in college and was back to full football activities and lifting in a month. All depends on where in the meniscus, type of tear and how big it was. But this had to be a good sized tear though. This is meniscus repair surgery. Cartilage takes a long time to heal. The type of meniscus surgery where one is out for 2-3 weeks is meniscectomy which involves trimming the damaged piece of cartilage away. In this surgery, there really isn't anything to heal other than the incision sites from the scope. If you are interested in more information, you will find some here.
  14. His bio says 305 with reference to the 20 pound weight gain and he hopes to put on about 15 or 20 more.
  15. It's not an excuse but you will continue to believe it is. Every coaching change situation is different and each brings its own challenges. Osborne simply changed the offensive philosophy, he didn't change the entire coaching staff. He already had significant talent and depth on the team. Riley had some talent when he showed up, but very little of it in depth. Riley is building for the long term, I get it, you don't like that because you wanted results last year. We all did, but it didn't happen. Most of us moved on. We saw the same thing with Callahan. TO and Tennessee made changes in scheme without staff changes, perhaps that helps. With both Callahan and Riley we saw complete coaching staff changes. Osborne never had to deal with that even when he was changing his offense or defense. And he never did both at the same time. We're still comparing apples to green beans here. Also, remember that Nebraska was already running some option, that wasn't the entire focus of the offense though. So, while some things changed and were morphed, other basic things like play call terminology, line call terminology and basic technique would not change entirely, nor did "chemistry" need to be developed with a new coaching staff. Much different situations IMO. In the current situation, I would expect the offensive transition to go fairly smoothly, since there is no basic change in terminology, etc. The emphasis will be different, but the basics won't change all that much. While you are not likely to see much zone read or option, it is nice to see a version of the counter trey back. Hopefully backs can channel their inner Mike Rozier. If we can only get the O-line to channel their inner Dean Steinkuhler. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=209848332
  16. Jones fracture is the same injury that DPE had in fall camp in 2015. Most likely he will have surgery and be back in mid to late June.
  17. NAVBIA* has requested that the title of this thread be changed. Spokesperson Patricia Rain stated, "I am sick and tired of people implying that vanilla is boring. Clearly this stems from the fact that North American Manufacturers went away from the use of PURE Vanilla during the vanilla crisis of the early part of this decade and people got used to the taste of IMITATION vanilla extract and its bland and boring taste. However, PURE vanilla has a wonderfully rich flavor. Calling a base 4-2-5 defense like what Nebraska used in its spring game does a tremendous disservice what is really a great flavor." *North American Vanilla Bean Importers Association
  18. Didn't Nate Gerry say, "...just wait til you see him next year..." or words to that effect
  19. Offense was much more affected by injuries. OL, TA, Carter, Westercamp, Moore, Reilly, Ozigbo, and even Fyfe. The biggest disappointment was on defense, though. OSU, Iowa, Tenn. It was not for insufficient reason that Banker was let go. It seems pretty clear that you don't want to be the coach of an under-performing unit under HCMR now.
  20. He indicated in the presser that the LB's would be together in meetings, but on the field will be mostly separated into IBL and OLB. Probably DCBD will do one group and Bray the other. Maybe.
  21. Westy is going to be tough to draft. Undersized and unfortunately just gets hurt to often. Wait, he missed how many games in 4 years? BR and AM were out far more than Westy, I think.
