  1. Well that wouldn't really be a surprise considering they stopped the game for 30 minutes to repair the upright Suh hit on his PAT attempt... joke right? Yes, and a poor one at that. Hence the
  2. I remember that poll. I know I wrote about the sound and the students being tucked away in the corner. I would like to see the actual results they came up with. With the sound issue, probably only a third of the stadium experiences the lack of music, announcing, etc. and even fewer care about it which is really disappointing. Like a few people have said, really our only hope of getting decent sound to the south end is if/when they add on there with perhaps a new screen, boxes, whatever, and I'm guessing that's many, many years down the road.

  4. Yup. Really sad, but true. Money talks in the Nebraska football world. If I remember correctly, the students used to sit in sections 15, 16, and 17 or something like that (maybe just 16?). (Seating Chart) Whatever it was, they were directly behind the goal posts. Sadly a year or two before I started, they moved them over to the corner (Student Seating) because people were complaining about students standing the whole game and being stuck behind them. I can understand the complaints, but now that we have all the extra seating coming, I think students should get moved back to 15, 16, and 17, and have the student section be all the way to the top of the stadium. I'm not sure how many seats there are for students now, and how many that would give them, but you could take out the front two parts of 15 and 17 if need be. Sadly, this won't ever happen because they know they can make more money off of regular tickets with donations and such...it really is a business and I don't really blame them for it. It does suck for us students though. I remember seeing a story on the local news about the moving of the student section, and I remember them interviewing a few students saying how the new sections in south stadium allow you to see the game better. I'm sure there were WAY more kids who thought the move was to worse seats, but no interview for them. Sitting in the upper half of southeast stadium cuts off a good portion of the endzone. I'm not sure what the view is from the very top, but I wouldn't be surprised if part of the actual playing field was out of sight. I also don't know what the view is like from the top row directly behind the goal posts, but I can't imagine it being worse than being up in the corner. The way the ticket sales went this year is like this. It goes by your class standing during spring semester. Seniors and graduate students: April 4-6 Juniors: April 7-9 Sophomores: April 10-12 Freshmen: April 13-15 (currently enrolled for the 2011 spring semester) Open to all fall full-time students beginning April 16 They sold out on the 16th, meaning incoming freshmen had only one day to buy the tickets. Ya snooze, ya lose, but there would be a lot more students there if the student section was a little bigger. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go to a lottery system like they had back in the mid-90s when we were winning everything. I would really hate that, so let's hope it doesn't come to that. I really would like to see the students benefit from the new addition to the stadium though. Whether it be more seats, or better seats, I really hope something changes. I realize that it's a pretty cool thing that I get to go to every home game for a pretty good price, compared to people who go to maybe one game a year for the same price I pay for all my tickets combined, but this is just something that really "grinds my gears" for lack of a better term. It seems like most student sections I see on TV have much better seats than we do, but I may be completely wrong.
  5. Haha, in all honesty, Herbstreit doesn't make too bad of an announcer. Had he not done the whole '95 Huskers thing, I don't think there would be nearly as much hate for him around here.
  6. Someone said earlier they didn't like Gruden, but I like him, too. He's not polished, but he's got a great head for the game and can tell you more than the average mic jockey. And he's WAAAAY better than the fools they've had in the past, like Joe Theismann and Tony Kornheiser, Dan Dierdorf and Boomer Esiason, or Dan Fouts and the single worst announcer in the history of MNF, Dennis Miller. *Gruden Voice* Jon Gruden. Now here's a guy who just flat out knows more about football than the guy next to him and, on top of that, can announce football games. He's big time. But I do like him a lot. Really surprised he hasn't gotten back into coaching though. My favorite announcer of them all is Collinsworth. He just speaks his mind on everything and doesn't seem afraid to say certain things. I really don't know if I could choose a favorite college football announcer right now. Seems like everyone has something about them that annoys me. I suppose that's why they do college games as opposed to NFL games, though.
  7. I'd love to get this guy just because of the first name.
  8. Can't remember where I read/heard it, but it is according to ESPN. Not sure when though.

FWIW, Soriano is actually one of my favorite players in the league. He played 2nd base back in the day when I was playing 2nd base in little league. I'd like to see him do well.

  14. I didn't bother reading every post in here, so I'm sure there's something similar to this, but here's my 2 cents. Keep all the bowls. Every single one. I do enjoy watching the bowl games quite a bit. My problem is with the way the actual champion is decided. So to decide this, make the voters/computers decide the top 8 teams at the end of the season. Seed these 8 teams and put them in the BCS bowls (Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, Orange). Then have a playoff from there. You're only adding 2 extra games to the games the final 2 teams would play otherwise. There would definitely be enough time between the end of the regular season and when the national championship game is now. The bowls would all get to keep their money and I would say that best team in the nation is ALWAYS in the top 8 teams at the end of the season (if not top 4). I really don't think this format would make the regular season boring. Teams are still going to try and win every game. If an undefeated team completely tanks it at the end of the season, the voters can punish them and knock them out of the playoffs. Plus with big rivalries throughout the season, I would think bragging rights alone will make teams want to win every game. Let's look at how it would have happened under this system last year going off the week 15 BCS rankings. Bowl 1 (Sugar Bowl?) 1 Auburn 13-0 8 Arkansas 10-2 Bowl 2 (Rose Bowl?) 4 Stanford 11-1 5 Wisconsin 11-1 Bowl 3 (Fiesta Bowl?) 2 Oregon 12-0 7 Oklahoma 11-2 Bowl 4 (Orange Bowl?) 3 TCU 12-0 6 Ohio State 11-1 Winner of 1 would play winner of 2 Winner of 3 would play winner of 4 Then the winners would play each other in the BCS championship game. You could rotate the bowls so that one bowl doesn't always have the, for example, 1-8 match up. Some notable teams left out: Michigan State 11-1 Boise State 11-1 LSU 10-2 Nevada 12-1 So it is possible for one-loss, BCS conference teams to get left out, meaning you would HAVE to try to win every game. In my opinion, the ULTIMATE way of deciding a true national champion would be to somehow realign everyone into 8 conferences and have the winners of those conferences be seeded and play the same format. That would be difficult though since every conference would have to have 15 teams and you'd probably want everyone to play everyone within the conferences. It would eliminate the non-conference regular season, too. I'd like to somehow get rid of the voters, but I don't really see a feasible way of doing so given the conferences and 120 teams in division 1. All in all, there really is no fool-proof way of doing the whole thing. I just think the way we have now leaves A LOT to be desired. The fact that 3 teams from BCS conferences could all go undefeated, yet 1 doesn't even get a shot at the title, is complete BS. Like I've said before, had Nebraska gone undefeated last year along with Oregon and Auburn, we would have been screaming bloody murder had we been left out. Same with Oklahoma fans, Oregon fans, or Auburn fans had they been the ones left out. The fact that TCU didn't get a shot isn't a COMPLETE travesty due to a fairly weak conference and lack of a weakly grind against top competition, but I still think they should have gotten one. They proved they could hang with the big boys when they played Wisconsin and beat them. If there were a playoff, I really don't think TCU would have kept it up 3 straight games to win it all. But I'd like to thank CornHOLIO for bumping this thread, as I was about to given all the discussion about this on statuses lately.

  23. It's a touchy situation. One argument is that the university doesn't provide "the average student" with the benefits such as rings, jerseys, etc. It's an equal opportunity for students thing. But on the other side, should the football players be considered "average students?" What makes no sense to me is that they can sell it after they graduate without a problem.
