  1. I don't get all the hate for Eichorst and now the questioning of Devaney's involvement and how these decisions get made. I've seen 3 fairly major changes instituted and they all were deserving and needed to happen. Bo fired. ST coach Read fired. Banker fired. And all of these were done fairly expeditiously with the exception of Pelini. Most of the ginger assassin hate seemed to pop up when Bo was let go. Seems pretty silly to let Bo's comments on the matter taint a person's impressions of the job Eichorst is doing. He needed to go and he's gone. Good. Near as I can tell, all theset guys are doing is trying to make Nebraska football better. I guess we can debate and question if they are making the right hires but there is no doubting that they are willing to make changes and are trying. IMO that is a huge improvement over what we've experienced in a long time. I applaud all or any of them that have a hand in trying to return the Huskers to championship football.
  2. Move on from what? This is an almost unprecedented move from a Husker coaching staff. Pelini didn't do it, neither did Callahan, Osborne nor Devaney did something like this. Solich did move a few pieces around after his first year (I think). The changes being made. The personnel and decisions being implemented and the why and what behind them can be discussed for the next ten years if need be. Indeed I think they will be. This is necessarily about Banker's defense, it's about the coexistence and chain of command in an organization. Osborne and Devaney didn't need to. Callahan and Pelini needed to and didn't. Exactly. I'm not sure how much the guys above Riley played a role in these staff changes but I'm glad they happened. We're just not used to seeing these types of changes and that at least partially explains why we've gotten the results we have for the last 15 years. There weren't a lot of changes before that because we didn't need change then.
  3. I agree that it's not very realistic but that wasn't the question or if the NCAA would allow it. The likely bigger obstacle would be having to do it for every sport, like PC pointed out. But hey, if it could happen, it would be good for NU.
  4. But you could tell a recruit "not only are we gonna bring your family in for every game, but we will fly you first class and do everything top notch that you won't get at this other school." I just think that the practicality of this issue is not realistic. For sure it wouldn't be fair for schools that couldn't afford to lure recruits with that as a possible benefit. But as far as Nebraska is concerned, I don't see a dowside. There are many places that have clear cut recruiting advantages over places like Nebraska, so let's not pretend that complete fairness is a driving issue for the NCAA. I say anything that can be done to help make up the disadvantages we have in recruiting the better.
  5. Of course Nebraska should be all for this. This would benefit any place with funds that has a recruiting disadvantage. I say as many trips/games as possible. Bama may not need such a benefit to attract top talent but it sure would help here. To answer ColoradoHusk's question- there are a lot of issues that are hard for the NCAA to police but the key on this one would be if they are already on the team. Wouldn't that stipulation preclude illegal benefits for recruits?
  6. I am not aware of any unwritten rule but I think the reason you don't see many lateral moves without a significant raise is because it just isn't natural. Lateral moves usually arent deserving of much of a pay increase and not too many are going to want to only change the name on the bank account of the check they're cashing. There usually has to be another reason; increased pay, better title, more responsibility, something...or possibly they are aware their days are numbered at their current employment. I don't have an explanation for kaz jumping ship at Iowa but I think we can speculate it was probably that last reason.
  7. Its pretty tough for this to get any better than it already is but butthurt Buckeye fans seems to do it.
  8. Sounds like we're going to need this forum, so here it is.

What about the guy from the TV series C.H.I.P.S "Pohn Jarrella"??

  10. I think this has to do with your gender. My wife hasn't made it through an entire movie without falling asleep in years, unless we go to the theatre. I think it depends on the movie. If it's a good movie (not some chick flick), I stay awake and she falls asleep. If she picks the movie, I'm usually out within 15 minutes.
  11. It's when somebody else in the house is controlling the tv remote and you keep eyeballing it, waiting for your chance to get it back. Definitely a doorway to possession.
  12. Yeah, good one, winter does suck now. Summer ain't what it used to be either.
  13. Indeed. I didn't say it is a team sport, just that it is more team-oriented than it has been in decades. You see it in things like the big 3's over the last decade in Boston, Miami, etc., and you also see it in the playing and coaching style of the best teams in the league ala the Spurs and Warriors. If you don't watch it, how would you have any idea? Good point. I don't have a very good idea what it's like anymore. I mean I'll check out part of a game from time to time and maybe watch some of the playoff games. But I watch way less than I used to. I just don't find it entertaining or compelling anymore.
  14. We are talking about the National Basketball Association, right? Team sport? Not now, and not at anytime in the last 25 years. I played a lot of basketball and used to love the NBA. Lost complete interest about the time Dennis Rodman came on the scene. Bird, Magic, Pistol Pete....those were the days. And the teams actually tried to stop each other from scoring. Imagine that....they played defense. Well, if they played defense in those days, they weren't very good at it. Team PPG is on par/or lower now, then it ever was in the 60s, 70s, 80s or most of the 90s. The "in my day" argument doesn't work here. It works for me. The topic is things you did like and don't anymore. The NBA is in that category for me. If you like it today, or think it's better than it used to be, good for you. You have a few more options during basketball season than I do. I'll take a college game every time over the NBA.

  16. I'm gonna have to get some of that and try it again. Haven't had any since I was a little kid and I loved it then. Circus peanuts. Remember those pale orange colored marshmallow candy things. Used to like them, can't stand 'em now. Seems we always had some of those in the house along with burnt peanuts and Boston baked beans. I still like to have some of those once in a while.
  17. The whole premise that urgency has now moved into Memorial Stadium is false. Urgency has been residing there rent free for about 15 years. It is pure BS and sensationalism to question the motives or impetus behind firing an obviously underperforming Def Coord. It was needed and due. Why can't we just give Riley and the whole program props for doing what needed done. I for one will assume that they actually want the on field product to improve and are willing to do what it takes to get back to championship level football. Kudos to Riley, Eichorst, or anybody else that had a hand in this.
  18. Wow! I didn't see that coming. Well I did but I didn't think it would actually happen. Good for MR. Now go get somebody that knows D....and can recruit D linemen.

  19. I don't know for sure but I don't think shrooms are addicting. Only tried them a couple times back in my college days. They were kinda fun and harmless I guess, nothing too extreme. One bit of advise though, doing shrooms (and possibly drinking and smoking a little pot) and then jumping on a trampoline is maybe not the best idea. We ate the shrooms and went to a nearby bowling alley, not sure why as we weren't really bowlers but, I remember it seeming like the bridge on Star Trek in there. We didn't stay long as we were all kind of freaking out. We went back to a buddies place at Chateau Le Fleur apartments and thought it would be a good idea to jump as high as we could on his trampoline. It's all good until you miss the tramp and land square on the support bar with the arches of your bare feet. It didn't really bother me at all that night but the next day both my feet were black and blue and I could barely walk. Also tried mescaline one night (at Pound Hall). That one is tough to describe. We laughed for hours and couldn't quit smiling but I don't really remember feeling anything else strange about it. In fact I smiled so much and so long that my cheek muscles actually hurt the next day. Pretty sure I had LSD one time by complete accident. Went to a Molly Hatchet/REO Speedwagon concert at Pershing. I took just a few sips of some girl's (who I didn't know) coke and I soon started seeing stuff. Molly Hatchet was the first act and when they took the stage the bass player's head was blue and about 3 foot long. I passed out before they began playing and did not see or hear one song by Hatchet. That still annoys me to this day. But I did wake up between bands, felt exceptionally good and watched REO without incident. I'm not sure what it was but based on the hallucinations I always figured it was probably acid. Anyway that's my experiences with the stuff that makes you see things. I've never wanted to even try heroin or some of that harder stuff. Seems too scary when you see what it does to so many people.

  21. And to verify, this was unrelated to the admission of "marihuana" use? Cuz I may or may not have had some similar experiences. ;-)
  22. Wait a second, JJ. Is levitation something you tried or something you did? And Ouija boards--those things have always sort of scared me. Even as a kid. I may have tried it once or twice though. Just tried levitating people back in elementary school days. Don't worry, it didn't work. It was about the same time we tried a seance. That may have worked a little bit....or somebody was screwing around with us. A baseball inexplicably rolled across the floor... Now that I think of it, the Ouija board experiment was about the same time frame also. I always figured the other person was moving the doohickey on purpose. I'm not exactly sure what they meant for divination but I could find buried water lines with 2 copper rods. I believe it's called witching for water. I got it to work quite a few times and I've seen people who are really good at it. We weren't just playing around. We actually had need to locate buried water and drain lines.
