  1. They're a lot more tame than their usual but I kind of like them. Should look good on the field with our home reds.
  2. We ask for a chance that's fair.
  3. I recruited a Czech kicker, and during the eye exam, when asked to read the bottom line, the kicker replied, Read it? I know him. (Woody Hayes) Here’s a twenty, bury two. (Bear Bryant after being asked to contribute ten dollars to help bury a sportswriter) Oh, we played about like three tons of buzzard puke this afternoon. (Spike Dykes of Texas Tech) Most players don't mind drug testing once they realize they don't have to study for it. (Mack Brown) There are two kinds of people in the world, Notre Dame lovers and Notre Dame haters. And, quite frankly, they're both a pain in the ass. (former Notre Dame coach Dan Devine)
  4. "Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing. There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that's first place. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay, and I don't ever want to finish second again. There is a second place bowl game, but it is a game for losers played by losers. It is and always has been an American zeal to be first in anything we do, and to win, and to win, and to win. Every time a football player goes to ply his trade he's got to play from the ground up - from the soles of his feet right up to his head. Every inch of him has to play. Some guys play with their heads. That's O.K. You've got to be smart to be number one in any business. But more importantly, you've got to play with your heart, with every fiber of your body. If you're lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, he's never going to come off the field second. Running a football team is no different than running any other kind of organization - an army, a political party or a business. The principles are the same. The object is to win - to beat the other guy. Maybe that sounds hard or cruel. I don't think it is. It is a reality of life that men are competitive and the most competitive games draw the most competitive men. That's why they are there - to compete. The object is to win fairly, squarely, by the rules - but to win. And in truth, I've never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn't appreciate the grind, the discipline. There is something in good men that really yearns for discipline and the harsh reality of head to head combat. I don't say these things because I believe in the ‘brute' nature of men or that men must be brutalized to be combative. I believe in God, and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any man's finest hour -- his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear -- is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious." - Coach Vincent T. Lombardi Sorry, I love me some Lombardi.
  5. “Winning is a habit. Watch your thoughts, they become your beliefs. Watch your beliefs, they become your words. Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch your actions, they become your habits. Watch your habits, they become your character.” “Football is a great deal like life in that it teaches that work, sacrifice, perseverance, competitive drive, selflessness and respect for authority is the price that each and every one of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” “Winning is not a sometime thing, it is an all the time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while…you do them right all the time.” “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” "Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is" “….I firmly believe that any man’s finest hours – his greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear – is that moment when he has worked his heart out in good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.” All Vince Lombardi
  6. And just think....our very own LOMS got kicked out of that place.
  7. I agree with you on CU. In fact so do a lot of other people because the line has dropped to 19. Have to disagree on Oklahoma. I thought they looked horrible again Houston and tOSU is 18-0 on the road under Urban. I think they'll handle OU easily. (But I hope I'm wrong)
  8. Guise, I gotta know, is this a game that I should put out my inflatable Lil Red in the front yard?

Only if you want me to drive over 200 miles to Macho Man elbow drop that sumbitch from your roof. You provide the ladder.

  9. My house on gameday; By the numbers 5 Husker households on my cul de sac in Colorado. 1 wife that knows not to bother me during the game 1 or 2 kids that couldn't care less 1 next door Ohio State fan that's getting pretty insufferable. 3 refrigerators stocked with plenty of beer
  10. Defensive success? Holding Oregon to fewer points than we score. I'll put it about 35. And keeping Freeman under 100 yds.....and not getting torched through the air repeatedly.
  11. Absolutely agree. This one let's us know if we're headed in the right direction or if we're still treading water/drowning. Huge game. This is a huge game. But, I don't like putting that much pressure on one game to determine the direction of the program. I'll decide that as more of the season unfolds. I will agree with that if we play well and coach smart. If we lose on knuckleheaded bs like last year, then I think it's very indicative of the direction.
  12. Curious.....why are they quitting?Seems like it must be a coach problem. If that's the case, it's an easy fix. If it has to do with this playoff deal you've brought up....well that's just crazy. If class C HS kids are playoffs or bust mentality, they've got bigger problems with the youth than not being able to field a team.
  13. Absolutely agree. This one let's us know if we're headed in the right direction or if we're still treading water/drowning. Huge game.
  14. Well, yeah, there is this little thing called a hypothesis that is kind of an important element of the scientific method. The thing is, though, more importantly, food science is a very young field, and doesn't know a lot yet. About anything. Anyone worth their salt within the field would admit as such - it's not at all like astronomy/geology/biology/etc. in terms of progress and discovery. Of course the process requires a hypothesis. My point was that I don't think as much of it is done without bias as many purport. It's just human nature, people like their thoughts validated and to be proven right. Luckily their are also people who likely disagree and will counter with research disproving false findings. And in the rush to release findings for whatever reason, we are treated to numerous studies claiming something is good or bad for us only to be dispelled or reversed in short order. Sorry, I just tire of everyday hearing how we need quit eating this or start doing that. I suppose it is necessary but it is numbing after so many false reports.
  15. I don't necessarily think the bias has to be of a sinister nature. Often times it could just be stubbornness or pride influencing things to go more the desired direction. It likely happens passively or unknowingly more often than not. I just don't feel it is very natural for most research or studies to actually be performed without any bias or in a vacuum as most people would like to think they are. And as soon as money comes into the equation then it can really start getting interesting.
  16. Something tells me that this is how most "research" goes. Somebody has a motive or theory and then they set out to prove their preconceived or self serving notions. Seems all too often some bias is always in there, maybe not as blatant as this but that's probably because they just don't get caught that often. It's no wonder everyday a new study pops up claiming this, that and the other thing is bad or good for us, usually contradicting a very recent finding.
  17. Dang! I loved Doyles! Everyone calls them "teasers" now but to me it will always be a doyle! I thought Doyles were so easy, but rarely won on them. "I can move the spread 6 points either way? I'm in!!!" Yeah, on one hand it seems like Vegas nails the line almost all the time but then you move it 6 points thinking it will be easy but you can't win sh#t. 2 and 3 teamers aren't too bad but the odds are poor so you go for the 4 or 5 teamers to actually try to make some money and invariably lose.
  18. +1 for being one of the incredibly few people who know when to walk away. And do it. Well done, sir! I liked doing it but I also saw a lot of crazy things happen that a person could never anticipate. Some of them, especially in NFL games, were incredibly suspicious. Anyway I got to the point where I realized it didn't matter how good I may be at picking winners, it still all boiled down to luck or the nefarious actions of others. Also, I learned long ago that if you don't quit while you're ahead, you'll always quit a loser.
  19. Dang! I loved Doyles! Everyone calls them "teasers" now but to me it will always be a doyle! Ha, that's how long it's been since I've really done this. I quit betting football in 97. I remember because I made a killing that year with the Huskers and Denver Broncos both having good years. Figured I'd never do any better so I quit.
  20. Im seeing 73 most places. If we're really going to allow overs in this deal, I may change that CU pick to NU/Ore over also. In fact I am changing it. Houston -8 NU/Ore over 73 Ohio State -1.5
  21. Coach- you gonna be rockin' some eye bleed yellow on Saturday or what?

  22. Week 3 locks Houston -8 NU/Ore over 73 Ohio State -1.5
  23. How about a 3 game doyle...all in one game. Nebraska +3 Oregon +9 Neb/Ore over 67 That's not my picks but, if I was a gambling man...
