  1. I'll be concerned when the tackling in games hasn't improved immensely over the last 5 years. Positioning and fundamental tackling skill are equally important in my book. If you're out of position, you can't make the play, and if you're in position but can't tackle, you won't make the play. They're both important. But I sure don't think the first dozen spring practices is the time to start freaking out about lack of contact. I'll trust those years of coaching experience until they give us legitimate reason not to. Logic tells me it can't/won't be any worse so imo it's already better.
  2. My favorite prank is to rubber band the handle on the kitchen sprayer. Then when somebody turns on the water they get douched. Always good for a hoot.
  3. Even I am getting tired of kissing his ass on his way out the door. I guess he predicted it.......
  4. I like Mike Riley and the new coaching staff. Should be an exciting season.

  5. Quote one person who thinks its ok to be high on any drug while at work.No one is saying that is OK. See post #203. Nobody said it is "ok" but it is implied if you think testing for it is ridiculous. There are all kinds of jobs where it makes perfect sense to drug test and try to assure sober employees. The amazing thing is that 3 idiots +1'd that shortsighted post.
  6. Husker_x- It's not as convoluted as you're trying to make it. As far as Gregory and the NFL, I think we can agree it doesn't matter. But as for the heavy equipment operator, all you have to do is honestly answer one simple question; If that operator could possible have any interaction with you or somebody you love, do you want to do everything possible to make sure they are sober and clear headed, or do you want there to be some question about that? It doesn't have anything to do with it being legal or not and we could just as easily be talking about alcohol as mj. There are many jobs where assured soberness trumps these other ancillary concerns.
  7. But what if the crane operator or the equipment operator or the truck driver smokes weed on Saturday afternoon, gets sober, operates the crane or the equipment or the truck on Monday morning, and then the following week on Tuesday, he's piss tested and subjected to discipline up to and including termination upon failing the test? Does that change anything? We're not talking about Randy toking up in the locker room before the big game, are we? Or did I miss something crucial here? You made a pretty blanket statement about all but one or two jobs not requiring drug testing. Now you're backing it off to a reasonable level. That would be the crucial thing you missed. I think we both agree that, in the scheme of the NFL, Marijuana use would not really matter. But there are many jobs where society is better served by erring on the side of safety. Until testing methods improve and we can differentiate if that crane operator toked it up right before his shift or 5 days ago, then it has to be treated like he is high on the job.
  8. I think we already know the NFL doesn't value character. Way too many examples that show that to be true. I still think it was a poor choice on his part to flirt with that line though, even if it doesn't cost him a hell of a lot, relatively speaking. The league is rife with wife beaters, child abusers, hell even murderers. In the grand scheme, smokin the ganj could be looked at as a virtue in the NFL.
  9. This probaby won't be received well but IMO Randy Gregory was a whole bunch of potential and not a whole lot of performance. He had a tendency to take plays off and was not extremely durable. But he also did eat up a lot of double and triple teams and had some impressive beast mode moments. I just don't see him making a splash at the next level.

I'm sure his durability will improve immensely in the league. Should be much easier for him at the pro level than it was in college. That's not my standard, that's the standard of every team in the league. You don't hear too many GM's saying oh boohoo he was hurt. They just go to the next player.

I didn't see him taking plays off. I saw him 20-30 yards downfield making tackles a lot of times. If he can get his weed habits under control, I think he will be a great OLB in a 3-4 defense. He's probably not big enough for DE in a 4-3.

There's no doubt, RG played balls out most of the time. I'm probably nitpicking when I shouldn't be but, there were times when the effort was lacking imo. Maybe that is more the coaches fault for not getting him off the field enough or maybe it's a result of his injuries. We'll find out.

  10. Some of these posts? Wow. The choice to use mj is not made in a vacuum. It can affect other people, negatively. MJ use can cause you to have an altered sense of perception. I know, I have smoked and I have inhaled. I won't argue, that in many cases and situations it is likely much safer than alcohol. And as far as professional football goes, being a banned substance is pretty much a joke. But to act like there are only a few jobs where being high could have serious, dangerous, consequences is laughable. What about the crane operator, the guy who hooked up the rigging, the heavy equipment operator, the truck driver? If you think these types of people being under the influence is a good idea, you're not being practical. And as far as Gregory........well whether the rule is good or bad, it is still the rule and therefore it is an extremely poor decision on his part. Doesn't matter if it's a stupid rule or not, his choice cost him millions. It's his life though so whatever. If those few tokes were worth losing millions in income, I gotta wonder what is most important to him and it does cause me to question his self control and decision making ability. Too bad.
  11. Might have to go back and watch the whole Twin Peaks series at some point. I caught a few episodes some time back. And it seemed interesting. Weird, but interesting. Well, we finished yesterday. I'm at a loss on how to describe it, other than to say everyone needs to watch it. Ya know how when milk goes sour and you taste it so you want everyone else to taste it too........that's about as close as I can come to why you should watch Twin Peaks. It's entertaining but makes less and less sense each and every episode, and that final episode.....you gotta watch.
  12. Does anybody else want to be a fly on the wall the first time these two get together for a discussion?
  13. This made me smile. Is Polo your ghost writer or something, because I've heard this somewhere before... Anytime this subject is brought up, you bitch and moan, but yet you don't care about the "whole situation", let alone are willing to write a paragraph long diatribe... Interesting... It takes looooong paragraphs to explain things to you. But even that doesn't get the job done sometimes.
  14. I'm the one who is wound too tight? This would be funny if you weren't serious. I'm not the the one who logs on every night just to piss and moan about other people and everything in general. How you like it out there in Jersey? Oh that's right, you don't really like anything do you? I could really care less about this whole situation. I'm not near as "worked up" over it as you seem to be. You've made a lot more posts about the subject than I have. Sorry but you aren't the authority, you don't get to dictate how people should feel about something or what they get to say about it. We happen to disagree on this so maybe it's time you accept that and that you get over it. I'm simply pointing out inequities in how "the rules" seem to get applied around here lately. I realize a few of the banned posters chose to jump on a grenade, not much can be done about that. But there are also a few who really didn't earn their ban IMO (and I do get to have an opinion whether you like it or not). And unlike you, I express my thoughts in words and don't have to rely on pictures with cute phrases like "eat a bag of dicks" or "shut the f#ck up Donny". The fact that you don't like what I think or say is the thing I don't waste any f#cks on. Since you're prone to giving mental health advice, maybe you should try a little therapy yourself and get to the root of why you're apparently so angry with the world. A little unhappiness is to be expected living in that cesspool of humanity but I don't think that explains near all of it.
  15. Bear with me, I'm slowly learning. Using "butt hurt" or constantly complaining about a coach that hates the home team..... not acceptable but telling someone to shut the f#ck up or to eat a bag of dicks is Okey dokey. I think I'm starting to catch on. Why do I get the feeling I'm being led astray?
  16. Yet here you are still trying to reason. Toddlers throw tantrums; it's not a knock on a toddler that they throw a tantrum that's normal. What's weird, however, is if an adult spends months responding to a toddler's nonsense, then saying he doesn't care about it, then still responding to it, all the while trying to convince everyone that the toddler is speaking nonsense. Thanks Landlord. If everyone would just quit responding to Devn... er blitzfirst, then I would never have to see his nonsense again. I can dream can't I?
  17. You're on my ignore list blitzfirst. Wish I knew what you posted in response but I don't give a f#ck what you've got to say about anything.
  18. Or maybe it's because a few who contributed more than most to the discussion got banned for some bullsh#t reason and a few others who also contributed more than most left or cut way back on their posting because they thought the bannings were f#cked up and the result so far has been a less enjoyable board experience. It could be that simple. Cue BlitzFirst and Walks to now tell me how I should feel and how many f#cks should be given.
  19. Somebody better call the authorities. Bo looks like he's being held hostage for that picture.
  20. Pretty excited you guise. Saw a rare post or two from none other than sd'sker today.

99% of posters on this board all blur together to me. Especially if their name involves any derivate of nebraska/husker/gbr/etc. I don't pay nearly enough attention to know much of anything about most all of you.

Yes macroboy, this place has been in bounds for far too long. Time for a trip to flavortown.

  21. What we've done is go the temp agency route. We don't hire a lot of people or have much turnover but we sure weren't having much luck selecting "winners" on our own. It's not a bunch better with the temp agency but it does allow us to see them in action for an extended period of time before they become our problem. If you don't like a temp that shows up, just send them away and ask for another one. No unemployment, no benefit enrollment, no garnishments, yada yada yada, saves ya a bunch of hassle while you're still figuring out if they would be a good hire. As for why things are this way, I think unemployment and government assistance are too attractive for many potential employees, especially the ones who don't have a large amount of valuable skills.
  22. How about we say it was "Husker Nation"? ...and was it a player or the media that booed the Nebraska players in that Ohio State game that set Bo off? Are you referring to the tOSU game where the team and coaches performed extremely poorly for roughly the first half of the game, causing some fans to boo and leave early, but then the Huskers made a miraculous 2nd half comeback for a victory but our hotheaded, foul-mouthed coach was not content with his team having made a miraculous come from behind victory and all he could focus on were the few fans who left early and caused him to lose all control of acting reasonably and was captured on tape (in a studio with obvious recording equipment all around) demeaning all Husker fans as fairweather fans and telling us all how we could kiss his a$$ on his way out the door? Is that what you are implying "set Bo off"? The stinking fans and not his total lack of keeping anything in perspective? That?
  23. They are really up to date over there at bigredboard. I had never visited there before and this discussion prompted me to check it out. The first two linked headlines......1) Nebraska joins the Big Ten conference and 2) Suh returning for 2009 season.
  24. Had to +1 this one. As I was reading down the page, this is exactly what I was thinking when I got to your post.
  25. No problem STPaul. I just think it probably doesn't matter much if the person on the receiving end happens to be male or female. The more telling characteristic would be the anger control problem of the hothead.
