Ah, the real fan argument. Always a winner. Couldn't agree with you more there. I get tired of those people who think they are better than the rest because they are OK with our team being the bottom of the worst division. These are the real classy people unlike us horrible fans. I am sorry but the statement by Eichorst is nothing but a pathetic excuse to save future sellout sand his job. Build the program brick by brick...Really, spare me the bullcrap. Riley inherited a 9 win team and turned into a three win team. Just call a spade a spade. I would have more respect for that arrogant AD if he actually manned up and admitted he made a HORRIBLE mistake.

I completely agree and I must have posted the same thing about 20 times. We do have talent. We actually have more weapons than Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern, and Rutgers combined but we have horrible coaches that have no idea how to coach. It is like owning a Mustang but you do not know how to drive. That is Riley and company in a nutshell.

We're going to get curb stomped. We might just suffer the worst loss at home in our 126 year history. I see MSU hanging 50+ points maybe even 60 and I don't see us putting up more than 24 points on their defense. You seriously think we can score 24 points on MSU. That would be a great game...

It seems like EVERYONE in the nation is able to identify that Eichorst hired a nice guy but not a winning coach. How can you not see that? You have to be blind and deaf not to see that. The article clearly points out what everyone knew when this hire happened. Riley is not a better coach than Bo but definitely much nicer and will not embarrass the arrogant Eichorst and Pearlman. I was never a BOliever and I agreed with his firing as he was not able to get us over the hump and he consistently lost to opponents that mattered. However, the hiring of Riley was very quick and done without any input or thought. After all, who was really competing for this guy. I honestly never knew of him until he was announced and once I heard he coached Oregon State, my heart stopped. On the other side of the coin, Michigan and Florida seemed to have MUCH SMARTER ADs apparently. You want to solve the problem, remove the source, and that is Eichorst. He is responsible for this mess and his paycheck should go towards fixing it.

Exactly. That's why it's important for the AD to make a good hire after firing the previous guy. You don't want to be paying 3 coaches on your payroll for the next 4 or 5 years. With that being said, it's not terribly uncommon. Programs like Notre Dame and Auburn (IIRC) have been in similar situations. Luckily Riley is a relatively cheap coach, we wouldn't be firing a guy making 5-6 million per year. What it does do, however, is it makes you stick with the next hire for a long time. It would be a program killing move if the next guy stinks up the place. Did you not see this

We need to clean house from the top down. Some facts, Pearlman is on his way out and the University will not fire him before he is set to step down, however, you can send a clear message by firing that arrogant a$$ that hired Riley without due diligence, and that is Eichorst. Our athletics have suffered enough under this idiot from Miami. I say, Fire Eichorst, and start looking for an AD that understands Nebraska culture. In my opinion, that is Trev Alberts. And let the new AD give Riley his pink slip or tell him that he needs to fire his buddy coaches and get some competent ones. The only problem with that is that I feel that Riley himself is a nice incompetent coach so what's the point of keeping him. If no serious actions are taken soon, this circus show is going to continue to kill every ounce of husker tradition. We are proud husker nation and we should not settle for this performance. People who say the landscape has changed and we will never dominate again, these are the true loser mentality fans and they deserve this incompetent coaching staff.

Our athletics have taken a dive into the abyss since this clown came on board.What was the last championship, in any Husker sport, that we won ever since this arrogant clown came to UNL? Even our beloved women's volleyball team has failed to win the big one but at least they are respected nationally. Our football team is a joke right now. we are the punching bag of the BIG. Riley might be a nice guy and he honestly does seem like a decent man but he is not a football coach. At least not at Nebraska. Eichorst hired him and his coaching staff without even considering anyone else. That is pure arrogance and the only consequence when AD arrogance brings disaster is to give him his pink slip and tell him, I hope you learned something chump!

One more note for those who think our losses are on the players and not the incompetent clowns we have as coaches. Urban Meyer went undefeated in his first year as head coach with a team that had a losing record the previous year, with the same exact talent. He lost 3 games total in three years. He is winning coach. We have a clown with his incompetent staff robbing the state of Nebraska blind while we are being asked to be patient and give him more time. He is a couple of years from retirement, how long are we supposed to finance his retirement fund before we are to expect some real coaching to happen? The decent thing for him to do is admit him and his staff are not the right people for the job and move to an FCS team, if they are as dumb as Eichorst to take them.

I am sorry but I do not agree with those that say we do not have talent. I feel that we have plenty of weapons but this coaching staff is clueless. For example, where the hell is Jano? Why not utilize him? What about Ozigbo. He seems to be pumped up and wanting to contribute. Also, what the hell does fyfe call those side throws! He had many ill-conceived throws. Are we even practicing? We lost to BYU by their second string QB. Why don't we have a decent QB. Yeah, yeah, we blame Bo for that. Look, I will never defend Bo. I know he had time to turn things around but his loyalty to his staff cost him and us dearly. However, the new coaching staff has not corrected one thing since they came to Lincoln. NOT ONE THING! Let me summarize here for those who choose to ignore the facts: We lost to Purdue. A team that Minnesota dominated. We lost to Illinois. A team that Penn State crushed and held scoreless. If anyone tells me that these two teams have more talent than we do, then we are not watching the same football. Also, for those who say we do not have talent...I say bullcrap. Westerkamp, Riley, Pierson Al, Tommy, Maliek, Valentine, Gangwish, etc...We do have talent. It just takes the right coach to get results.

Honestly, I would gain so much more respect for the guy if he actually came out and confessed that he is way out of his league and simply retired and let someone else come who can actually coach these kids. I am sorry but we do have very good players but they are coached horribly. Riley and his staff are not able to get the best out of these players and it shows. We have great weapons on this team and under a capable coach they will thrive, but it does not help when you do not have the right coaches to utilize these weapons. It is obvious. It is not personal. I am not, and never were, a Bo supporter and I wanted change but this coaching staff was not the answer. NO ONE in the nation other than the arrogant Eichorst thought this was a good fit and now it shows. No more close games to blow smoke up our behinds. It is obvious that these coaches are incompetent at a very high level and will NEVER turn things around. Pull the plug because this one is already dead. We are officially the "Kansas" of the BIG 10. I can't believe that these coaches are actually cashing those big fat checks they receive from this state with a piss poor performance like this. Is anyone going to ask the tough questions or are people here going to find new bullsh#t to convince themselves that things are turning around. The only people I felt sorry for are the fans that traveled to the game to see Purdue (yes Purdue!) dominate us.

I do not understand why some posters here refuse to acknowledge that this coaching staff is waaaayyyyyy over their heads and have no idea how to right this ship. A good coach would be able to fix the main issues that have plagued us for years now. We are one of the most penalized teams in FBS AND FCS. The penalties have killed drives and cost us points and games. Riley knew that coming in yet nothing has been done about it. For those who think that a coach needs time to fix issues in a team, I say look at MICHIGAN and what they were able to do this season. Harbaugh inherited a team that had no identity and was able to get them believing in themselves. Our players have no swagger and a lot of them have issues off the field. That is a clear sign that the players have absolutely no respect for Mike Riley and his staff. This would never happen under Tom Osborne. The players respected him and played their hearts out. Our current players are good politicians. They know what to say to give us hope yet they make the same old stupid mistakes game after game. They are not developing and these coaches are not a good fit. Riley is a nice guy and I have nothing against him but he is not the right coach to bring Husker football back. He is here to supplement his retirement and is doing just that thanks to the incompetence of the two snakes Eichorst and Pearlman.

We should be so proud. We continue to be the stepping stool that other teams and players use to launch their careers. See, who said this team was not capable of bringing success...I mean success to the opposing teams.

Bo was also a few plays away from a couple conference titles, probably a BCS bowl win and going 11-1 last year. Should we give him credit for those since we were so close? Sure?If you want to, go right ahead. I don't think anyone was saying give credit for close losses. Just stop pretending we've been getting blown out and acting like Riley is miles away from getting some things right. I think there's sixteen years of pissed off Husker fan all somehow being dumped onto Mike Riley and his staff right now. I am sorry but we have every right to be upset at the poor play. Imagine how the 95 team felt having to watch us get beat by NW and we could not even make one stop to get the ball back or get a first down when we only had two yards to go. I can only imagine what the 95 team was thinking. Unfortunately, the current players have grown accustomed to losing and it does not phase them or bother them that they are ruining what is left of Husker pride. Also, if Mike Riley is so great why has he not fixed the killer penalties or the lack of discipline. I do not see much improvement from last year but I do see the losing record which made us irrelevant. Also, our special teams are nonexistent. So, what has the mighty Riley done except manage to find a way to lose every close game we played thus far.

I just don't understand why some members here immediately start calling other members non-fans just for expressing their honest opinions. I am sorry but I have been a Husker fan all my life (45+ Years) and I will always support my team no matter what but I do not have to accept descending to mediocrity and say it is OK. Teams used to pee their pants at the thought of playing the huskers. Nowadays, teams coming to Lincoln seem to have more swagger than our own team. Most times, they leave with a "W". I still remember the game when Texas rolled to town and beat us 16-13 and broke our 56 home unbeaten record. The fans were crying because it was such a rare thing to happen. Now, if we expect our players to respect our tradition and play hard, we are called non-fans, or Nancy boys, or whatever other crap some people use on this blog. I say, anyone who is happy with what is transpiring with our beloved husker is the fake fan themselves. Apparently losing to Illinois, NW, BYU, MIAMI, and Wisconsin is not sending the right message to the team and coaches. What else will?

There is something really fishy about Eichorst hiring Riley who is a couple of years from retirement. He could give a rat's ass about losing since he is cashing a fat check at the end of each month and has no product to show for it. At the end of the day, if he is fired, he gets to ride into the sunset with Nebraska funding his vacation in Hawaii. Let's get real here, we needed a coach who has something to offer and can potentially change the culture into a winning one. We got a below average coaching staff who are giving us exactly what they have always done, an average performance at best. The results speak for themselves. Now, the real question is how much time before we actually send the Chancellor, AD, and coaching staff packing and really start rebuilding because this is yet another episode of American Horror Stories and it is really scary.

And you are under the impression that our academics are doing well? Have you seen where we rank nationally? We dropped from the top 100 and keep losing excellent faculty because of poor decisions by this chancellor.

Unfortunately, it seems like our athletes have been spoiled and pampered by the best (and most understanding) fans in the nation. No matter how poorly they perform, we travel to games to support them and we fill the stadium every Saturday. That is why they have grown accustomed to loosing and not caring. The fact that they can explain away a loss week after week is evidence that they do not really understand what HUSKER football is all about. Nowadays, opposing teams can't wait to come to Lincoln and walk out with a BIG "W". Whereas, LSU's stadium is DEATH VALLEY, our stadium is "PARTY TOWN USA" for the opposing teams. We have become irrelevant and soft. Whenever we are mentioned in the media it is for some big record broken on our backs or to remind us of how horrible we are. That is all happening while the two thieves (Pearlman and Eichorst) are robbing our state blind and producing crap in terms of athletics and academics. So, when do we stand up and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! As much as I hate to admit it. It seems like the only thing that will wake up the idiots running this disaster of a show is a few empty skyboxes and empty seats on the stadium. Then, and only then would this administration wake up and smell the roses. Our athletes should also realize that they need to put 200% if they want to play for Nebraska. Enough with the excuses we are given week in, week out: "We did not execute," We want to do better but...", "We were outcoached" and the rest of the bullcrap we are fed weekly thinking that things we turn around. Newsflash, things have not turned around and they are getting so ugly that everyone but Husker fans have all but forgot that we actually play football in this state!

I completely agree. Pearlman and Eichorst are the REAL CANCER here. During their tenure, both our academics and athletics have taken a dive into the abyss. When I attended UNL, the Engineering program was ranked among the top 75 programs in the nation. Now, we dropped from the top 100 and our athletics are just as miserable. The two things are linked and you simply can't separate athletics from academics. Look at Stanford, why did they insist on becoming a respectable football team. Simple, they are MUCH smarter than the two idiots we have (Pearlman and Eichorst). They realized that by becoming nationally know in FBS, they will improve their academics as well. That is also why Duke and Northwestern focused on improving their football teams. Why is it that everyone figured it out except the two morons we have. And they are paid BIG MONEY compared to some other schools. Enough is enough. If Pearlman, Eichorst, and Riley want to cash BIG FAT CHECKS then produce, or else get the hell out of Lincoln.
