  1. Should we expect Frost & Co. to turn the program around at and equivalent (or quicker) rate than other traditionally major Programs. I'm talking about teams like... Florida St - (7-6) in 2017 Texas - (7-6) UCLA - (6-7) Oregon - (7-6) Florida - (4-7) Tennessee - (4-8) Some of these teams are in a recruiting HOT bed, and could see a complete turnaround within 2 seasons. Which program will see the quickest return to powerhouse status; and how will Neb. compare to these programs in your opinion?
  2. Maybe LaVar can start a JFL for players who want to be paid, but don't want to continue their education & don't meet the NFL's "3-years removed from HS" rule. In all honesty, I'm not sure if a scholarship is fair compensation for the money that some of these top players bring in for their schools, especially if those players don't truly want to be in school and are risking injury(their playing future) for three/four years. The money that guys like Tebow, Manziel, Cam, etc. brought in for their respective programs was worth a lot more than the total amount their scholarship was worth, in all likelihood. However, this situation only accounts for the top players, most likely, at top programs. A full-ride scholly probably is fair comp. for 90% of players. Tricky situation, no doubt.
  3. I believe Crouch was the best pure Option QB at NU; but impossible to know for sure. Crouch didn't have the same talent around him that Tommie had and probably had to carry a larger load of the offense than Tommie did; but that doesn't mean that Tommie couldn't have carried a lesser team to a NC. It's possible that Tommie was so good that he could have led that 2001 NU team over Miami; but maybe not, we don't know. Also possible that Crouch was so good that, if he played from '92-'95, he had the skill/explosiveness/durability to go undefeated for 4 straight seasons w/ that talent around him.... but, again, maybe not; we can't know. Vision test is the only thing I can go by, and my vision tells me that Crouch was just a better pure option QB.
  4. Wouldn't mind Sirius. It's tradition... A legit "pump-up" song... I think the majority of fans would be satisfied with this choice; or, at the very least, be 'ok' with this choice. Can you feel it was cool; wouldn't mind us rolling with it on occasions. Honestly; it's just a song... I wouldn't mind letting the previous Players of the Game decide the songs, if it means they play that much more motivated
  5. Frost & Co. want the boys playing full speed, and would rather have them miss the play going 100%, then make a slow/sluggish play while getting dragged for 5 yards... LOVE the attitude, but I expect some missed tackles early on in the year; however, we seemed to miss a ton of tackles the past couple seasons (actually, it seemed like our guys just weren't there to make the play, half the time).
  6. Haven't seen this topic mentioned as of yet. There is a pretty gaping hole left behind by one of the best kickers to play at NU. We've always seemed to have a great kicking game; but we've been particularly spoiled with great kickers this past decade and a half. Hopefully we'll be able to find another great kicker to take over the kicking reigns. Anyone have any knowledge as to who are the players expected to compete for the job; and who is expected to have the "lead" in the competition (if there even is one)?
  7. I'm not terribly salty over this; nor was I ever... but when I first heard the news that Riley was hired to be our new HC, I was a little... underwhelmed. After everything that has transpired, I'm a tiny bit salty over that hire still; but the Frost hire has quelled that quite a bit.
  8. Putting time back on the clock after Colt McCoy threw the ball out-of-bounds during the 2009 Big-12 CCG. I think they (technically) got the call right... but I would have been more than happy if they got the call wrong & ended the game then and there; thus, I'm salty.
  9. This is what popped out to me from this post... Get that kid on the field.
  10. I hope it’s O-line... this team makes the biggeat leap forward if that position group makes a solid jump
  11. Is Ozigbo being written off because he is not a 'speedy' back, or because they believe he just isn't as talented as the other backs? Oregon's spread offense has used bigger backs as the primary back in the past... Jonathan Stewart wasn't exactly a burner (although, very quick) LeGarette Blount was pegged to be the workhorse until he did what he did. Royce Freeman was a featured back while Helfrich & Frost were running the Offense. If Ozigbo has something to offer (which I believe he does) don't expect him to ride pine just because he isn't fast, shifty, flashy, etc. Frost's offense may utilize speed as it's primary asset; but I'm sure he knows the value of POWER, and power-backs.
  12. With the rule changes and the way the nfl is heading (protecting WRs at all costs) I see a slightly undersized, but quick WR like DPE being very valuable as a slot WR (which seems to be a big time position now) if DPE has a “good” pro-day showing (doesn't even have to be great, imho) especially in 40, 20-yard shuttle, and 3-cone; i see him getting drafted mid-late i’m sorta surprised Gates got a combine invite... he was a highly ranked HS recruit; but his game tape doesnt match; and he certainly hasn’t progressed from a physical standpoint; he looks nothing like an NFL left OR right tackle.
  13. Was talking to a couple friends, and we were discussing what are the next big moves that may/could/should occur in terms of conferences shifting? Everyone seemed to agree that BIG 12 will fall apart unless they find a way to grab Boise, Houston, and/or BYU... However, those teams could also be targeted by Pac-12. Independents... Who could become one? Texas probably has the means to have some success as an independent. I also saw an article saying USC could see success as an independent, but the Pac-12 money they receive would be hard to match as an independent. Who else 'could' have success as an Indy team? OU? Notre Dame - who are they likely to join, if they were to join a conference (unlikely, though)? B1G would love to have them, but so would ACC. What would make more sense for ND? B1G - what two teams could you see being added? could you see two 8-team divs; or four 4-team divs.? Or no divs.?
  14. "... Coach on the field for us..." Does that mean he will be starting QB when eligible? Will he see significant playing-time in some other capacity? Or is SF just saying stuff fans would like to hear?
  15. I predict an 8-4 season; and I believe that *should* be considered a good season, considering the product that was consistently put on the field last season. I wouldn't be disappointed with 7-5; so long as we are competitive in most of those losses, and it isn't major coaching flaws that lose us those games. (I wouldn't be surprised with a blowout loss to Ohio St. again, however).
  16. My take... Saban has created a more dominant dynasty than Osborne. Depending on how long he continues @ 'Bama, he will likely create a longer lasting dynasty as the top dog in CFB (if he hasn't already). However, What Osborne did is more impressive than what Saban has done. Putting together top recruiting classes at Neb. is exponentially harder than putting together a top class at Alabama. Developing the talent that Osborne received out of high school and putting together championship contenders was probably a more difficult job that turning Saban's recruiting classes into championship contenders. An argument for Saban, though; he put together a 26-game win streak; which (most likely) was a tougher 26-game stretch than Osborne's 26-game stretch unbeaten. (This is a difficult argument to make, though).
  17. The biggest take away I got from the Championship game, was the fact that both teams looked like they had 22 NFL size, and as close to NFL ready starters as you can get. It wouldn't surprise me if all 44 starters from that game get, at the very least, a udfa contract from an nfl team within the next 3 years... I'd be willing to bet that over 50% of them will be drafted within 3 years. The only way you can compete with that is if you acquire similar type of talent. Can we recruit with the likes of 'Bama, LSU, Georgia, OU, Aub, ? I'm more worried about whether we can recruit to a relatively close level as OSU, Penn St. and Mich. I think Frost is a top-tier coach, and talent will see that and want to come play for him. I'm optimistic we'll be able to consistently compete for the Div. title; thus, be able to compete for conference titles. I unsure if we'll be (realistically) in the hunt for National titles, though. Those top SEC teams just have so much NFL type players; especially on the lines.
  18. Whoever gets a turnover gets to blitz on the next series.
  19. EXACTLY!!! i've been complaining about this since we moved into B1G!!!
  20. I truly believe that, no matter where or what football evolves into, the battle at the line of scrimmage is what wins the majority of plays; and thus, games. It's just what football is at it's core. No offense... 'NO' offense, can be successful if the defensive line gets consistent penetration into the offenses backfield. By the same token, Any offense can have success if the O-line is dominant at what they do (unless you are SEVERELY hampered at QB)... Wash St. offense would be unstoppable if they put together an O-line that could consistently give the QB 3,4,5 seconds to read the D and make a good decision and deliver a good ball. 'Bama/Wisc. look unstoppable when their Line gets a consistent push and eventually wears down the defense. Stacking the box/LOS is what teams try to do to beat the fast paced spread offenses of today; but still, if the o-line can beat the D's front 7/8, the offense becomes unstoppable by exposing the 1-on-1 match-up problems that arise when you play that style of defense. Win at the LOS... win the game.
  21. I'm assuming Williams (WR) probably won't be on this staff... Any news on who WR coach could be?
  22. I agree with the “every” week matters w/ a four team playoff... 8 team playoff eliminates that feeling, to a degree. i, however, argued that if you make the first round of an 8 team playoff a “higher rank hosts” it eliminates that problem, to a degree, as well. i like your second scenario, though.
  23. These are 'amateur' players. You can't expect these 'kids' to potentially play a ccg and potentially THREE post-season games... it's too much abuse on their poor little bodies. that's like, potentially 16 games... totally unheard of... oh, wait. seriously though, the only 'sorta' legit argument i heard was that it could potentially make early season games less meaningful, since a 3-loss team could get in, and surely, a few two loss teams will get in... less incentive to go undefeated... I don't think that argument holds a lot of weight though; especially if you make the quarters a 'best-team-hosts' game... then the incentive to win is in the home-field advantage.
