  1. Moos played up 'culture' and 'fit' about as much as you possible could. He also brought up 'tradition' and 'history' a whole lot. judging by that; I'd say Frost is in consideration because he has 'history' w/ NU and is familiar with Neb's culture... However, Frost's offense doesn't really seem like the 'fit' that comes to mind when we think of the storied tradition of success in NU's history. A 'downhill/attack' style defensive coach and/or a power-football/ball-control offensive mind will be hired if Moos was being 100% genuine during the presser. That would check off fit, culture, return to tradition & history.
  2. Diaco seems to believe in his guys and wants to make them better; that's the impression I get from his post-game interviews, at least. He is well-spoken and genuine; and the team could use a guy like that as an interim. Now, with that said, I don't believe in his system, and would not want to retain him after this season, but i truly believe he will fight for his team and try his best to put his players in a position to 'improve & develop' if nothing else. MR, to me, at least, seems emotionally drained and done with it all (although it might just seem that way because we obviously had no shot for the entirety of the 60 minutes last night); but I've seen this from him at moments in other games throughout this season, and even during moments late last season. I understand the argument that "we are paying him regardless, may as well have him finish out his job" but he may be doing more harm than good... or perhaps there is a person on the staff that can better manage player morale/development for the remainder of the season.
  3. Did I say 2 possesions? I meant within 7 possessions....
  4. I believe we 'can' win because these are 18-23 y/o kids/men; they are not pros (although some are pro ready; most on OSU's sideline, unfortunately). They can (and will) make mistakes on the field; they aren't pros, who also make mistakes. How many, idk. Maybe OSU makes a lot more than NU. We have a DC who has proven to field a very good Defense on numerous occasion in his career. If Our guys play outta their mind on D, we know Diaco can game-plan a winning defensive strategy as DC. He did it (with unbelievable talent, mind you) at ND. Will NU play virtually mistake free defense + Will Diaco's scheme work vs. OSU's offensive gameplan? again, idk. We have a number of WRs that have proven to be able to make big plays, one way or another; and we have seen Tanner Lee be able to deliver the ball to them when given adequate time (although we have also seen him make mistakes, both, under duress & relatively unhurried). Can Tanner Lee is 'pro style' QB; can he deliver a 'pro-level' performance, and can the WRs replace their drops w/ even more big plays? Can the O-line put together just one period of 60 minutes in which they perform like an elite level line? Most of these scenarios are unlikely... but they 'can' happen. OSU 'can' also cover their spread; and the game 'can' get ugly. but i'll stick w/ my original prediction; NU is within two possessions heading into the 4th, but OSU pulls away.
  5. It's becoming more and more apparent (to me, at least) that teams want a QB that can (and want to) escape the pressure and steal 10-15 yards on a broken play is essential in today's football; especially CFB, but it's looking that way in the NFL as well. I see two reasons for this in CFB specifically, 1. The offensive lines just aren't reliable enough to protect the QB on a consistent enough basis, game-in and game-out. This is probably due to not having enough time to 'gel' together on , both, a micro & macro level. They do not have as much time practice-time/off-season time as they do in the NFL; and they certainly do not have the years of work to put in together (especially at a starting level). 2. The defenses simply cannot effectively contain every receiver AND be on the lookout for the scramble on the consistent basis, UNLESS the d-line is consistently causing major disruption; in which case, no offensive scheme will work . The defense may be able to contain both on 3 out of 4 attempts, at best; but their seems to be a busted coverage or a loss of containment on the QB on at least 25% of plays. Currently watching the Red-River Rivalry, and Ehlinger and Mayfield are both killing the opposing Defenses late in the game with their ability to run; which is another bonus to a mobile QB... It further wears a Defense down, and makes it easier to put up a score late, or run the clock out if you have a lead. Just my opinion on the most important position; what are your guy's thoughts?
  6. Could Michigan's AD or Mark Hollis from Mich. St. be had? What about Dan Guerrero (UCLA) or FSU's AD? Any of those names sound good/realistic?
  7. NU's wins over OSU - O/U - 0.5? I'll take the under. They're looking to get into the playoff; and imho; they still got a legitimate shot. but seriously... can someone start a O/U thread?
  8. Nebraska is in it for 3 quarters; Ohio St. pulls away late. UCF doesn't cover, but wins by 24+
  9. Good point; but if UCF only found a way to rush for a whooping 3 more yards this season, they would have more total rushing yards w/ 2 (& 1/4) fewer games.
  10. Didn't the NFL draft just break the record for most underclassmen drafted (or non-seniors) two years in a row or something? I think many players are now coming out of major HS football programs (which recruit, too, now) nearly ready to play and are 'requiring' (for lack of a better term) a non-redshirt/early playing-time promise from recruiters in exchange for a commitment. Thus; these players are (or believe they are) NFL ready after only 3 years of CFB. I think were gonna see a lot more underclassman starting for major programs. If Neb. can re-startup the pipeline and get some hogs on the line and develop them for 3-4 years, it can really put us at an advantage over defensive fronts starting half (or more) underclassman. I truly believe that's the most efficient way Neb. can create a winning program, with all things considered.
  11. The blowouts and/or on-field meltdowns were starting to wear on a lot of fans... the leaked audio didn't help matters... but I think you are right; especially considering who we hired. Had we known that Bo would be replaced by a relatively unknown, .500 coach; only the biggest of detractors would have went along with the firing/hiring. imho. Personally, I didn't mind the firing; but I certainly would have rather retained Bo than hired MR (and I'm not just speaking from hindsight, I felt that way minutes after I read MR was hired & looked up his coaching history on wikipedia).
  12. Recruiting classes between 20-30 w/ the occasional top 15ish lose to Illinois, Rutgers, Purdue, NW, Minn, Maryland and Indiana no more than 3 times every 5 years combined. Be competitive with Ohio State and Michigan (and Penn St., since it looks like they've taken the next step on the field and in recruiting)... Beat them 1 out of 3/4 times Split w/ Wisc. Not sure what to expect from Mich. St. & Iowa. Iowa looks to be consistently competitive, but not a top dog... Mich. St. looks to be bouncing back; but how far will they bounce back? Ideally I'd like to beat Iowa 2/3 times; same w/ Mich. St, unless they return to their form from 3-4 years ago.. then splitting would be OK. This would have us consistently competing for the division title.... We should be in the B1G CCG 2 of every 5 years, with Wisc getting in 2, and Iowa possibly getting 1 (or Neb. or Wisc gets another). Those are my 'realistic' expectations.
  13. Im unsure if Diaco is running a softer coverage/2-gap scheme because of the talent on-hand, or because he believe in that system... At ND; it seemed like his D was more aggressive. I think 2-gap + soft coverage could work good in big-12 and possibly Pac-12 (not against SC and Stanford, though). I'm skeptical towards whether it can work in the B1G. Iowa, Wisc, Mich St. all allow their D-lineman to shoot gaps and cause disruption at the LOS. This seems to work, and allows them to compete with the likes of OSU and Mich, year in and year out. We've been running 2-gap, and try to get our LBs shoot the proper gap, only to have a pulling guard seal the gap, LB or S over-pursue or miss tackle, or simply run into the DL; leading to us giving up 200+ rushing yards to the bigger programs in the B1G every year. If this truly is Diaco's system; then, no, I don't want him retained.
  14. ... and here's a look a Callahan's final schedule results from the '07 season. Next...
  15. Let's look at the top QB's in the NFL: Rodgers - mobile Brady - non-mobile; but one of the last of his breed Alex Smith - Say what you will; but his QBR is among the top this year, and was top 10 last year, and 12 the year before... very mobile Watson & Prescott are both VERY mobile and are looking like future top QBs; along with Mariota Cousins looks legit and is 'fairly' mobile Even D. Carr and J. Goff are pretty fast. The only young Qbs in the NFL that are not mobile are Ryan, Stafford. Manning and Roethlisberger (who was mobile, once upon a time) are on their way out and will probably be replaced by this new breed of QB. Statue QBs don't typically see success in college; and they are becoming more rare in the NFL, as scouts look for winning QBs (w/ the closest thing to a pro skill set to boot, of course)
  16. Alabama doesn't run a pro-style offense... They sure run their offense with pro-style players, though.
  17. It was just sarcasm... The sad thing is, though; I truly believe, at this point, that Frost would put Lee in a better position to look good for pro scouts than our current staff can/will.
  18. Scott Frost might turn him into a solid pro candidate (He was Mariota's O-Cord for two seasons)
  19. I could be wrong here; but it seemed like our D-line was running 2-gap a lot of the time.... The problem w/ this is that they essentially allowed Wisc. to pull two lineman and outnumber our guys to either side. This killed us in the 2nd half.
  20. Someone who wants to make a WHOLE LOTTA money.
  21. This was me when I learned of the hire (strong resemblance, as well, I must say)
  22. Athleticism is defined as "the physical qualities/characteristics that makeup/define an athlete..." I think mental aspects are just as important (more so at certain positions); but shouldn't just be mushed into the category of athleticism. Size, strength, speed, quickness & agility (change of direction, hip mobility), hands (catching ability, avoiding fumbles ability), Low center of gravity & leverage, tackling ability... These are all physical characteristics that define a player; thus, are athletic abilities. Factors such as anticipation & awareness, toughness (although this can be physical as well) & heart, vision, ability to go through progressions & make proper reads... These are all more mental factors that don't necessarily make you a better athlete, but certainly make you a better football player. Just my opinion. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Does UCF have better athletes than NU? At certain positions; yes. Does UCF have better athletes than NU, across the board? From what I've seen (and I've only seen 1 1/2 UCF games); I'd say it's pretty close; but UCF has it's athletes more evenly distributed throughout every position group. NU seems to be stacked at skilled position, and lacks at other position groups.
  23. I guess you have a point... Regardless; I'm gonna be pissed if I see I Pick-6 at any moment in time. I'm not one to get overly emotional IRL, though; so I'll be good. Will be interesting to see how Memorial stadium reacts to a P6, though.
  24. Soooooo.... no booing if Lee throws pick-6 at an inopportune time?
  25. Tot. Rush Yards for Neb. O/U 150: Under: Top 2 RBs will be out & O-line (which is still unproven vs a worthwhile front 7) is still banged up). O/U Hornibrook - 225 Tot. Pass Yards.
