  1. Practically every President prior to Obama was a blatant racist, so that's nothing really new. Trump is just really the first person to run for President being so openly racist and bigoted. But, to answer your questions, Trump is a racist because: a) he's a 70 year old white male*, b) he's said incredibly racist things during his campaign, 3) since his election win, he's surrounded himself with a veritable "who's who" of racist, kkk-loving, neo-nazi, white supremacists. *And not to put too fine a point on it, but I don't know anyone that age who isn't racist. My mom, her husband, and most of their friends (who are all white in in the 68-75 age range) are all blatantly racist. On the few times I have been around them, they all call Michelle Obama some kind of slur (think along the lines of primates). They all drop the N word regularly. They all think that black people need to be exterminated. They are truly awful people. I try to love my mom, but sometimes the things she says just makes my skin crawl. To put it succinctly, if it looks like pooh, has the consistency of pooh, and smells like pooh--then it's pooh. Your personal anecdotes are meaningless when it comes to making claims on whether a whole group of people is racist. The problem with this type of evidence is I can just say "My mom is 70 and she's not racist. There, you're wrong!" Btw, my mom is 70 and she's not racist. There, you're wrong. You know, I'd be happy to be wrong in my assertion. But, since it is impossible for me to actually look into the hearts and minds of everyone in that age range and to find out what exactly they think and believe, I'll stick with erring on the side of caution.
  2. To me, Riley gets 2 more years minimum. If he completes 4 years, and we still have no championship, either conference or national, then we might have to start the "who's our next coach" conversation. But I want to make sure Riley is given every opportunity to succeed. Personally, I think we will win the conference next year. We get a starting QB that can actually read the defense, find, and complete passes to open receivers in the 5-12 yard range, there's no telling how good this offense can be. we will still be short some horses.......division champs would be big. national, not a chance........improvement would be nice. I'd like to remind the poster quoted above that Nebraska was 7-0 heading into Wisconsin. The Huskers win that game and how does that change the direction of the season? We beat Wisconsin and maybe (probably) we don't beat Ohio State but the game is way closer than a 59 point thrashing. We lose to Ohio State, say 24-21 and are 8-1 at that point, we probably finish the season with all wins. We then get into the Big 10 championship game, and who knows what happens from there. I realize there is a metric ton of conjecture in the paragraph above... But I think that loss to Wisconsin beat Nebraska 3 times. 1 loss to the Badgers, a hangover loss to Ohio State the next week, and by the time they reached Iowa (where Tommy was playing at probably 60%) they were just zombie'ing through the motions. Next year, Nebraska has Northwestern, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Iowa ALL in Lincoln. With improved QB play, we should be better. We'll definitely be better along both interior lines.

  4. Um, no serviceable back up. No real depth. And you've got to be kidding me in thinking we did a good job at it. The comment was also meant with the team as a whole. Hence the recruitment, development, injuries........ I mean, I'm not saying it was necessarily great. But there were three more quarterbacks on the roster when the previous staff was fired that were no longer playing QB for us at the mid-point of this year. So it's not exactly the previous staff's fault. I would think any of them would have been a serviceable backup. Therein lies the rub. Either they weren't mentally capable of picking up Mike Riley's offense, or, they didn't want to stick around long enough to find out-because they knew they be on the bench behind Tommy indefinitely.

  6. Can someone explain SPARQ scores and how they're calculated? I'm asking for a "friend" (who's a little slow on the uptake).
  7. I know hindsight is 20/20...But Penn State did manage to win the Big 10 Championship last week.
  8. So is this false equivalency? For example, my worldview says that everyone should be protected equally under the law. My worldview says that blatant discrimination against one particular group of people (based on whatever "faith" they cling to) is unacceptable. My worldview has it that two people in love (regardless of gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation) should be able to get married. Anyone, as long as they are a respectable, paying customer, should be able to buy a pizza at a "Christian" or "Muslim" owned pizza parlor--even if the owners don't like my/their "lifestyle." So if Ted Cruz, Mike Pence, Mike Huckabee (or insert any other BS christian bigot) tells me I don't deserve to have any rights because I am LBGTQIA, that I should be excluded from society, to not have access to healthcare, to be barred from employment, to be denied housing... Me calling someone like Cruz a bigot (which he absolutely is) makes me a bigot? Because honestly, I don't agree with Cruz, Pence, Huckabee's worldviews, but you don't see me supporting legislation that aims to strip away their rights. So me calling someone a bigot, and you are implying I am just as much of a bigot, is really misguided. Sorry, not trying to start a fight, but your entire premise is troubling. Or maybe I'm not fully understanding what you mean.
  9. Honestly, I don't know enough about Butch Jones to say yes or no.
  10. It's mostly Saban and the rest of the Alabama coaches telling a kid, "You might want to start looking for playing time elsewhere." Which is an indirect way of saying: you're never going to see the field, and we can't officially be "over" the scholly limit, so...the door is that way. If a kid wants to stick around, he can be targeted for abuse during practice, he can left off the travel squad, I mean there are multiple ways to let a recruit know he's no longer welcome. Then, why they just "leave" on their own.
  11. Batman: Arkham Asylum Batman: Arkham City Batman: Arkham Knight Batman: Arkham Origins was garbage.
  12. That is true. However, my fear is that if people start getting carted off to jail, or they have their citizenship revoked for speaking out against Trump... Those that voted for him, and his silent supporters, won't care because it'll be the people they hate: immigrants, non-whites, non-christians, gays/queers/trans/non-binary, etc. Now, will anything like that happen, in reality? I hope not, but I don't know. And, given how things are progressing, with the monsters he is placing in power at the highest levels of power within our government, it wouldn't surprise me. There may be a time in the very near future where America has a 2nd civil war. I am not advocating for anything like that, I hope that can be avoided, but make no mistake...I can and will fight.
  13. Are you kidding me? Auburn fired a coach a year (maybe two) after he'd won a national championship. LSU fired Les Miles after a slow start this season. Florida fired Will Muschamp mid season (although my recollect could be hazy here). Point is, college football athletic directors make decisions to pull the plug all the time, some firings have more merit than others. But to think Nebraska is alone is crazy. And face reality: Bo Pelini, despite his .700 or so overall record, NEEDED TO BE FIRED. HIs antics were a complete embarrassment. Given the poor roster management Pelini had, his unwillingness to sell Nebraska to elite recruits, and his constant hiring of inexperienced coordinators, was completely unacceptable.
  14. I admit I have not read every single post within this thread. However, "Trump's America": The amount of outright racism, bigotry, hatred, and utter contempt most Trump supporters have for people who aren't: straight, white, christian is terrifying. The fact that Trump was able to run for the Presidency, on a platform of hatred, intolerance, bigotry, and misogyny is scary enough on its own. Then, when you consider that 64% of white men and 55% of white women (if exit polling data is to be believed) heard that message, and still voted for him, it becomes even scarier. In a recent tweet, Trump suggested that anyone burning the American flag should either have their citizenship revoked or be put in jail. Stop and think about that for a moment: Trump isn't even in office yet, and he already wants to violate the Constitution of this country. Not only that, there are reports that he won't divest his business interests, which is also a violation of the US Constitution. I am a military veteran. I have a combat tour of Iraq on my service record. I am also part of the LBGTQIA segment of the population. The type of "America" that Trump and his supporters want, is NOT my America. In my America, there is room for everyone. In summary, we as Americans are entering a very tenuous time where all the freedom and liberty so many people claim to advocate for, is slowly slipping through our hands. We are truly on the brink of becoming a white-only, fascist, neo-nazi dictatorship. I took an oath to defend this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Make no mistake, Trump and the utter monsters he's assembling in his cabinet represent the clearest, and most direct threat, to our freedom we have ever seen. I will stand, in open defiance, to Trump and his cabinet of neo-nazi, pseudo-christian, bigoted, extremists.
  15. This thread is hilarious. From the link provided in the OP to the responses...LOL
  16. @HuskermanMike, So, admittedly I have not actually seen the schedule for '17 yet...ooops. I just assumed since we went to Bloomington this year, we'd get the Hoosiers in Lincoln next year. I wonder why we don't play Indiana next year, in Lincoln?
  17. I don't think the word "Settled" is the right word. He wasn't the first choice, but after the recommendations that were made to the admin about him it was hard to say no. A lot of people will be surprised at the changes of Oregon's play on the field. They played with just athleticism last year. No heart, no discipline, and no respect for the Helfrich. I'm probably optimistic and maybe a little biased but I like to think I hold a decent opinion. I guess I try to be informed about who the guy is. Not saying anyone in here isn't informed. I just think people hold a negative view of a guy that has turned around 2 programs that were in the dumpster. He had the 120th ranked defense at South Florida. Also, saying the players didn't have respect for Helfrich is silly, you saw their reaction to Helfrich when he was fired. They knew he had their back. Now Helfrich may have been a little too hands off and laid back and the players took advantage of that, which I think Taggart will be the opposite. I think Oregon will certainly be better next year and probably get 7-9 wins. I just hope Nebraska is ready for them. It's going to be the same old spread offense at Oregon like he ran at USF. Ya, I don't see Oregon's offense changing much, if at all. Schematically I am sure there will be some tweaks, but overall, it'll be the same. Same pace, tempo, attitude, etc.
  18. What Trump says: "We renounce bigotry, racism, hatred, and the politics of hate!" What Tump does: Fills his cabinet with racists, bigots, anti-LBGTQIA, and women abusers. Clearly, Trumps actions are at a 180 degree opposition to his words.
  19. Exactly. We have Northwestern, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Iowa...ALL IN LINCOLN.
  20. That defensive alignment by Navy had to be a bust / mistake. There was literally no LB on that play. It was the South Florida 5 OL against the undersized Navy 4 DL with everyone spread out covering the WRs. It is still a great run, no doubt about it, but that alignment by Navy was awful.
  21. @84HuskerLaw, I had heard something similar about the 4 year scholarship as well... I found this: http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/schools-can-give-out-4-year-athletic-scholarships-but-many-dont/
  22. I know that this isn't exactly how it works - however, think of it this way. If the best 25 recruits go to school A and the next best 25 go to school B and so on NU would be around Y..... (in some ways this is true with Alabama and OSU - any way) We have moved to the edge of the mountain and if we can show kids that we deserve to be 10 spots better then we currently are, like N - look what kind of talent we would get. Where as if we are 45th and move up 10 spots the talent level really isn't any better. Yeah, here's another way to look at it: If you were to see this graph as it changes over time (kind of like stop-motion animation), you would see the lower and mid-ranked teams shuffling around frenetically, but the closer you get to the top, the slower teams move up and down. The teams at the top change, but more slowly. It's like, the matrix, man. I stared at this ^^^ for like two minutes as if it was Hypno Toad from Futurama.
  23. I'm not a stats person. I think I understand the stats he mentioned, but many other factors go into a game's outcome than just talent. That being said, his reasoning as to why the Vols should be favored makes sense. This game being practically a home game for the Vols would probably be enough to have them favored alone. Hell, I'm a Nebraska fan and even I have a tendency to think the Vols will win. I do however question his calling Iowa our "worst loss." Seems to me that losing by 59 to Ohio State would be the worst. Unless he's comparing talent rankings between teams. Any stat geeks on here wanna comb through his methodology to see if it is legit or garbage in, garbage out?
  24. I do not doubt that was the game plan. But why would the "game-plan" be so utterly stupid and basically give our offense, and team, almost no chance to win? (I guess I am asking rhetorically because only Langsdorf truly knows.) Throwing the ball 40 or more yards down field is a very low percentage play as is. But to repeatedly try that against one of the most talented teams, and defenses, in the country? Just made no sense whatsoever.
  25. @VectorVictor, exactly right. Alabama is able to be so dominant year after year because they do exactly what you describe: they over-sign and then run off the players who they missed on. There was an article posted years ago by someone (can't find the link or article now) in which he detailed quite nicely the exact methodology of how Alabama and indeed the rest of the S$C over-sign. It was this article which serves as the basis for my over-signing example below: If Alabama only has 15 open scholarships for 2011, and still signs 21 players in February, that's 6 extra players to pick and choose from. If Alabama has 18 open scholarships for 2012 and signs 27 players, that's 9 extra players If Alabama has 17 open scholarships for 2013 and signs 25 players, that's 8 extra players. If Alabama has 20 open scholarships for 2014 and signs 28 players, that's 8 extra. Over this ^^^^ imaginary 4 year recruiting cycle, that equates to Alabama essentially signing 5, possibly 6, recruiting classes in 4 years. It does not take a rocket scientist to conclude at how that type of practice gives them a blatantly unfair advantage.
