  1. For all of those questioning TOs ethics, please consider the time frame those things happened and what the national standards were. We are living in a different day and age and the standards by which we are judging him and his actions weren't the norm back then. Part of being a coach is being a mentor and sometimes that includes helping young people through the toughest times. I don't have stats to back it up but my guess is he helped a lot more that we have never heard about than he ever let slip through the cracks and covered up for. True or not, the boys who played for him believed he had the best of intentions, especially in those rough times.
  2. Thanks - mods need to sticky this thread for a while
  3. I agree and that is my take as well. Our fan base is so hungry for anything good that they latched on to the feel good story of Mickey. The reality was, short of a miracle, he was never going to be the guy.
  4. I get where you are coming from but this isn't going to be a transition like we are used to. Fans are going to squawk a lot the first 18-24 months but in the end I believe burning it all the way down and rebuilding is the long term answer. Don't get me wrong, I hope some players are able to make the transition the right way but anyone on the fence will do more harm than good imo.
  5. I liked him but if his head wasn't in it here, would do more harm than good staying. Wish the kid good luck at his next stop. It's not going to be fun but we need to sit back and watch this burn to the ground...
  6. I have no idea how I would react and hope I am never placed in that situation. I have seen some really good people do some really bad things when placed under extreme stress. Those of you judging should pump the brakes a bit imo. If everything being reported is true, what he did isn't right but if you have never lived through a similar situation, the reality is you have no idea how you would react.
  7. It is a terrible thing but... Strictly from a football program perspective, this will end up being a good thing. It solves the messy situation of what role or roles we were going to possibly overpay MJ to do and it will completely flip anyone who was thinking MJ should have gotten the permanent HC job. Rhule gets a clean start with zero baggage and doesn't have to worry about any split player loyalties. This will also save Nebraska some money as we will be able to let MJ go for cause meaning we owe him nothing.
  8. Wow, didn't expect that. So sad in so many ways.
  9. Things happening pretty fast... hard for most to keep up.
  10. Have you actually watched any of his games other than against TN or Clemson? When he is good, he is great. Unfortunately he is only that way about 25% of the time. Giant no thank you.
  11. I don't mind the end of season award idea but, I still feel the proper way to handle them is 100% traditional. A starting defender gets a blackshirt. If or when he is no longer a starter, he loses the blackshirt.
  12. For those being critical of this season at SC, please go watch some of the games the offense performed poorly. Now tell me- was it terrible QB and line play or was it the OCs fault. Rattler is like 3 QBs in one and only one of them should be on a P5 team.
  13. People talk a lot about curses and 20+ years of bad football. Both are wrong imo. Bo won a lot of games here and fielded some quality teams. We fired him after beating Iowa and that is when we truly started to suck. That isn't a curse, just piss poor management internally. Bo did need to go but the timing was poor and the decisions made following lead to 10+ years of bad football. Not sure if it's good or not but we are turning the page again after beating Iowa. Full circle in a weird way but sure seems like the future is bright.
  14. It is a weird position to be in. It can be really hard to take the step back down. Obvious differences but a similar story... I was an interim manager for 6 months at a large business. When a permanent manager was finally hired, I had a great offer to stay including a promotion. I took it but honestly hated not being the guy so I moved on as quickly as I could. I never regretted leaving and was a better person for it. MJ now knows he can lead at the highest level... I'm guessing he tries to find a spot that will let him.
  15. For starters, Trev hasn't won yet. Your take on the rest is just guessing.
  16. Funny thing is I'm not sure Kiffin is better than Rhule and I'm guessing at least a decent percentage of the fan base was against bringing urban. I agree Urban was a stretch but I think Trev could have Kiffin if he wanted him and the boosters were willing to pay for him. As far as the rest of your comment, grow up man.
  17. Finally some talk internally. My guy is saying some hurdles left in the negotiations. He thinks the leak came as a form of leverage on Rhule's side. That is his guess, not a known fact.
  18. Really expected him to be better this year. Wish him the best...
  19. I'm not sure the entire fan base was going to be excited with any hire. I'm optimistic and hope it ends up being a home run. GBR
  20. I have a feeling we will make your offense look respectable today. Guessing 350 yards or so...
  21. Agreed. The whistle was obviously why everyone stopped. Still doesn't change the fact they should be driving to win instead of tie.
  22. Husker nation would be pretty critical of his game management. Pouring rain and up by one, he chooses not to kick the field goal. Likely going to cost them the game.
