Realistically, NEXT year’s recruits will pretty much fall into one of three categories - players not offered by more successful programs, players with talent and offered by other programs but won’t see much playing time there, the few kids from NE that want to stay close to home. The commitments from better talent will not be realized until the following season.

Simply wishful thinking to believe that Matt Campbell would leave ISU to pick up the pieces of our program. That is not going to happen.

Today’s college football landscape is drastically different than the olden days to which you refer - many more exceptional athletes, many programs with big budgets, and opportunities to play with numerous stellar programs. Seniors in high school today were newborn babies when we were last a top 10 program - 2001. Their dads may remember when we were considered a good program, but the kids sure don’t. The good old days are long gone. We will only rebuild with one recruit, one practice, one game, one year at a time. No simple answers, just a lot of work and determination. Unrealistic fan expectations will not get us there any faster.

Top athletes do not want to lose - regardless of who is coaching. Our turnaround will require much more than the next coach willing to jump on the merry-go-round.

It will take much more than a new “magical” coach. Our fans who think it is that simple need to stop living in the past. Top recruits today have many better options. Unrealistic expectations only exasperate the problem.

Stay objective please. When was the last time we beat two top 5 teams in the same season? How very far back do you have to go? Just be thankful the Clones are not on our schedule, or in the coming years.

16 years since we were a top 10 program. That is a long time being a program that is irrelevant.
