  1. No one is complaining about making sure we have the room for as many walk-ons as Frost wants, it's making sure we do it in a way that won't get us in trouble. I don't care if it's the principle of how we handle women's sports or just not wanting NCAA issues, I would think we would all be on the same page there. Football drives everything else, and so it's fine if that is the priority. I just don't want to get burned by questionable decisions made to immediately prop up the football numbers when we could've taken a few years to do it right. Could be a complete non-issue, but it seems dodgy at best.
  2. I don't really disagree, in a vacuum I'd probably have the same order. But it's not like Shenault was a fifth year senior, it's comparing a true freshman to two true sophmores in Taylor and Shenault. I just think it's close enough that there's an argument for each of them. And if we're going by what they did to us last year Purdue and Wisconsin would have won without Moore and Taylor, although both contributed a lot. Colorado wouldn't have without Shenault.
  3. That article is hilarious - supposed to be pointing out the lack of reasons to go to Nebraska, and says nothing about the football program. Kids are picking a football program, not a vacation destination. Also love this gem: "Also Callier played through the whistle, not after it." Both not true (he clearly keeps going after the whistle), and the issue was that it was cheap, not that it was late. It was dirty whether the whistle had blown or not.
  4. It's closer than you think. Numbers aren't everything, but: Shenault: 8.4 catches per game, 112.3 ypg, 11.8 ypc, 11 total touchdowns. 115 rushing yards, 6.8 ypc. Moore: 8.8 catches per game, 96.8 ypg, 11.0 ypc, 14 total touchdowns. 213 rushing yards, 10.9 ypc. Shenault played 9 games and Moore played 13 which is most of the difference in their numbers. If they played the same number of games, Moore only wins in catches (barely) and yards per carry (significantly) - but neither ran the ball very often. Moore adds returns as well, but honestly he was not a good returner last year. 20.1 yards per kick return and 6.8 per punt return, no touchdowns. Moore is absolutely a more exciting player to watch, has more highlight-reel plays, and gets bonus points for playing B1G defenses instead of Pac-12, but there are arguments for Shenault here.
  5. I have confidence in our corners too, but I don't think they're shutting Shenault down. You just try and minimize his impact, none of those 40 yard touchdowns. It's pretty tough for a receiver to completely take over a game, so I don't really care if he gets his numbers as long as they aren't back-breaking plays.
  6. How was Wisconsin 22nd in pass yards per game when Martinez almost hit 500 against them?
  7. It can be both - although the fact that he went undrafted definitely makes it less controversial. I definitely thought he would be drafted higher and would've disagreed a few months ago. But seeing that and then hearing comments like Vince's make you look at it again and I can see what they're saying. Still one of my favorite recent players, but lighting up Minnesota and Illinois does prop up your numbers.
  8. I don't really buy it. I'm sure Martinez didn't have complete knowledge of the offense last year, but saying he ignored things he did know to focus on Stanley is pretty extreme. Especially considering early in the year Stanley wasn't targeted that heavily, the coaches started moving him around to give him more opportunities partway through the season. I don't recall a lot of guys wide open while Martinez forced it to Morgan, and honestly I kinda wish he'd forced it to him more often. I am un-cautiously (recklessly?) optimistic about the offense this year with it being year 2 in the offense for Martinez and year 2 in a legitimate weight room for out O-line. But it would have been worse last year without Stanley, and I don't think having him/not having him last year makes a difference this year.
  9. Couple of things I found interesting in the updated roster related to S&C: Garrett Nelson is listed at 6'3 260 already - I'm buying him as a contributor this year with his motor if he's anywhere near that size. Size was really my only question with him, he's a good enough athlete and just plays harder than other guys. Washington is still fairly small at 190, but if he's actually 190 this year (and plays) that's huge. From what I remember hearing he was in the 170s most of last year. Tannor at only 220 is kind of surprising, and makes me wonder what he actually played at last year - 200? I don't know how big he's supposed to get, but with the other huge gains in years 1 and 2 I expected him over 230. Ben Stille didn't have a huge jump (290 to 295), but similar to Washington if he's actually near the listed weight that's big. He got mauled against Iowa, it was painful when he would slide down to the A gap. Think I remember hearing upper 270s for him last year, 15-20 lbs would help a lot. I'm hoping the refs let them play in the defensive backfield, because our corners are huge and should be able to push receivers around. Bootle is the exception, but Jackson, Taylor, and Clark are all 210+ and Wright and Newsome have the frames to be that size as well.
  10. I agree - Deontai, Jojo, and Dismuke are all better athletes that we had a year ago, they just need to grasp the defense as well as someone like Tre Neal did. I think we've got defensive playmakers in Barry, Domann, and Williams but someone stepping up OLB and/or DL would go a long way toward making this defense decent. I really hope the Alex Davis hype is real - he's one of those guys with plenty of talent, just needs to put it together. If I remember right he didn't play football until his senior year of high school, so the slow development (not helped by a year with Diaco) is understandable. I'd even take a Peyton Newell type impact, everyone had written him off and he contributed as a RS Senior. Hoping for more though, I just don't think Domann and Ferguson can consistently beat Tackles one on one without it being a blitz.
  11. Or just use mobile deposit, those all add a small fee - on a $10 transaction it's not a big deal though. Probably cheaper than the stamp to mail the check.
  12. I don't think that's relevant - I'd be pissed about opposing fans chanting something similar whether it was a star player or a walk-on who never played. I don't disagree with that, some fans are way too obsessed with being "the best fans in college football." But to me the chants would absolutely be crossing a line.
  13. Except a Diaco-led defense. Their goal was to let you score, but make it take a little bit longer than it could have.
  14. I think the 'tall LBs' being referenced would include Bryant-Strother - he's 6'3, same as Hannah and an inch shorter than Henrich. All taller than Young and Barry, we should definitely have better size at MLB moving forward. Miller is a step that way too, I think he's 6'3 as well. Does anyone know for sure how to pronounce his name? Co?
  15. I would love a couple plays designed entirely to get Farniok and Wilson to #44. No intent to actually gain yards and no cheap shots, just make sure they get the chance to pancake him.
  16. Not to take anything away from Martinez, but I hate all comments coming from "coaches at Manning Camp" because they convinced me Tanner Lee was our savior. Big difference is Martinez has already backed up the hype on the field to some degree, but still.
  17. Historically we have obviously done way more than Colorado, and even the last 10 years we've been better. But I took the comments to mean recently, and for the last five years averaging 6 wins a year isn't a lot better than Colorado averaging 5 - more bowl games I guess. The draft picks depend on the year you choose as a starting place - the last 3 years they have 6 picks and we have 2. They didn't have any picks in '15 or '16, so draft picks over the last 5 years we crush them again. But I think these comments will be hilarious at the end of the year and over the next few years, because I don't see Colorado going anywhere fast.
  18. Lamar Jackson won it on a 9-3 Lousiville team in 2016, Bryce Love was second in 2017 on a 9-4 team. If he puts up big enough numbers the fact we went 4-8 last year will be an even bigger selling point for the voters. It'll be a player putting up great numbers and willing a 4-8 team to a winning season, even though that's not fair to the contributions of other players. Again that's assuming he puts up huge numbers, but the track record of Frost's offense there is excellent. No one will be shocked if Martinez isn't a finalist, it's impossible to predict at this point. But no one should be surprised if he is, he's set up for it as well as anyone that's not a Bama/Clemson skill position player.
  19. He's not exactly wrong, but it should definitely still be motivation. Also show a few replays of the Martinez injury, and we'll be ready to kick their teeth in.
  20. It's still going to be a spread offense, Day just prefers less qb running. It'll be what they ran last year with Haskins, although it might be more like the JT Barrett offenses while Fields is there.
  21. 3 recent teams, 4 wins or worse to 11-12 wins. So it can be done, but not super likely.
  22. It's just too much of a non-color: Jersey/pants/helmet the same color can work, but it has to be a color IMO. These ones?
  23. I personally hate the all-white look - the ones we wore against NW were the best by far, I could tolerate those. But in general I just don't like the look, if we go all one color I prefer red. I feel like it has to be black if it's true though, "third team jersey color" implies not red or white. We don't have a tertiary color, and black is really the only other color that makes sense with the blackshirts. Anything other than black or a gray/silver probably just clashes too hard with the traditional red.
  24. True, but they jumped to the playoff pretty quick once enough people were upset with the old system. I know fans had been talking about it for a while, but it seemed like a pretty quick turnaround from when the NCAA said they were doing it to the first year it happened.
  25. I like how the NCAA is asking them to wait on the bill until they (the NCAA) review their own rules. This bill wouldn't take effect until 2023! That's not enough time for the NCAA? I know it's not something that can change overnight, but that's a ways off.
