  1. These are things that are fixable and are literally what coaches get paid to teach.
  2. I can see this, especially coming from a laid back, Mike Riley culture. O'Leary was an a$$, but in terms of accountability his mindset was just about opposite of Riley. So at UCF I'm guessing it was a lot easier to turn over responsibility to the players - because they were recruited and coached into a culture of accountability from day 1. Frost doesn't have that luxury here. This isn't passing the blame either, it's on Frost to diagnose that and fix that. And I agree with you on the veteran coordinator thing - this is a different rebuild then UCF - it requires different pieces - and I think you nailed the glaring omission.
  3. Watching the Minnesota/Penn St game and both Franklin and Fleck gave fiery pre-game speeches. Penn State QB out there shouting about "Sink the F'in Boat". I know that isn't Frost's thing - he is cut from the same cloth at TO. TO had Charlie though, who was a junk yard dog. Curious if you guys think this is something we are missing. I think Frost is waiting for this to develop among the players naturally - but in college it's something you kind of have to manufacture. Don't get me wrong I think having a calm even tempered coach can be a huge asset - but you need that energy somewhere. Seems like too many times before the game, during the game, coming out of the half, the camera pans to our coaches and players and we look like a bunch of dudes who have to be there to get credit for a class. Your thoughts???
  4. Iowa fans need a history lesson. Kirk won 3 conf games his first 2 years at Iowa. Fran was 11-20 his first year, won 4 conf games and lost by double digits his first game to South Dakota St. I don’t expect them to know that, because they’re always peering across the urinal at us.
  5. I’d say 90% of coaches hate recruiting. He was just honest. That’s also why he hired an ace recruiter.
  6. Our athletic department just exists so the Iowa and Creighton fans I know can kick me in the nuts on a weekly basis.
  7. This is year 1 so MBB gets a pass, but good lord after this football and basketball season we're gonna need some therapy as a fan base because we are gonna be battered. IDK how many face kickings a fan base that sells out pretty much every sport can take.
  8. ^ He's right. The bigs up front have done a decent enough job controlling the LOS (there are exceptions). For the post part our ILB have had clean fits and the OLB have had a clean edge. Most our problems on defense have stemmed from ILB inability to fill, OLB inability to set the edge, OLB inability to get after the QB, and all the LBs inability in coverage. My gut feeling is we will really miss Daniels at the nose next year. If the LB play doesn't improve drastically, it won't be WILL Chin get fired, it will be WHEN Chin gets fired.
  9. It's linebackers and it's not close. They're the straw that stirs the drink in a 3-4 Defense. If you wanna get really scared go look at how many LB commits we have in the 2020 class
  10. Chinander is actually just a puppet controlled by Bob Diaco.
  11. Damon said her absence to the vball team is connected to the football team on Twitter a couple weeks back. Wouldn’t shock me if there is truth to it.
  12. It's gonna be interesting. He's a hard worker and supremely confident - those types of guys seem like the last person to make a change in their process. If there is something broken on his staff, or in the way he does things - my assumption is he will stick with it, and try and will it into where it needs to be.
  13. Honestly Frost is dealing with a lot of first's as a head coach. The bumps in the road are things Frost has never experienced as a head coach. Frost went 6-6 with a team with zero expectations, 13-0 with a team with little expectations. 4-8 with a team with zero expectations, now 4-5 with a team with some real expectations on the line. This is legit the first time he has failed as head coach. I always laugh at people that say - this will get figured out or this will never work - there is nothing we can point to with Frost that says either way.
  14. 35.25 ppg against Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota. Chin + B1G isn't gonna get us too far.
  15. I'm unable to listen did they go in more depth on this? Was this about O or D, I know it can apply to both.
  16. Chin hasn’t adjusted a thing. B1G offenses will continue to abuse him.
  17. At what point does commitment to Martinez outweigh commitment to winning.
  18. Austin absolutely. Tuioti to a degree. 3-4 is so dependent on linebacker play you lean on those 4 dudes so heavily and right now they are potentially the weakest position group on the entire team. We depend on the OLBs to be good in pass coverage, set an edge and be able to get to the QB. Guess what 3 things we aren’t doing on 3rd down. So while Tuioti is gonna be big. This staff needs to be able to recruit and develop and coach the linebackers if the 3-4 is going to be the base defense moving forward.
  19. Firing Chin would probably be an overreaction, but I would like to see some changes. Get creative with pressure, get speed on speed - maybe even get another DB back out there on 3rd and 50 instead of letting the same LB get beat by the same dude for the 50th time, send 5 - maybe let Tannor get after the QB.
  20. Here is what Chin focuses on by his own admission. The first-year defensive coordinator cited a statistic that he calculated that shows the importance of sacks to a defense. Chinander said 93 percent of drives where a sack occurs end with no points for the offense. The goal for Chinander’s defense is simple: get the offense the ball. “We don’t want guys who are making a lot of errors, but you need production,” Chinander said. “You need tackles for loss, you need sacks, you obviously need turnovers if you’re going to pair up with a Scott Frost offense. What I’m concerned with is (tackles for loss) stats, turnovers, limiting explosive plays, percentage on third down and percentage on red zone. Turnovers is king for me.” Here is what we've done in conf play this year: 3rd down conversion: 13th/14 Turnovers Forced: Last Red Zone Defense: Last Sacks : 10th/14
  21. Idk if I agree with this......in 26 games at UCF they were 17-1 when scoring 28+ points. They were 9-0 when getting 500+ yards. In 20 games at Nebraska we are 6-7 when scoring 28+ points and 5-4 when getting 500+ yards. Offensively productive games always meant wins at UCF - at Nebraska those same games are now toss-ups. We're facing a higher level of coaching and better offenses, and our defense isn't answering the dinner bell. Take this year for example. We win every game we score over 30+ points and we're 6-2 and our two losses are against undefeated teams. Anyone complaining about that? (well probably, but that's not the point)
