  1. If Purdue is a night or 2:30 game, I think we get them. I also think we dig deep and finally get Iowa. Wisky and OSU are likely losses. I'd bet this would be enough to bring HCSF back, although with definite staff changes for 2022.
  2. No offense, but these are words of a defeatist.
  3. If we lose out, no way he is retained IMO. Purdue would warm the seat, but they just dominated Iowa, so in & of itself, it wouldn't be a bad loss if it's at least close. An OSU loss is expected, but a blowout would be bad. Winning in Camp Randal is tough. Especially tough for a team who has only won 4 B1G road games in 3 1/2 seasons. And all have been against bottom tier teams. But Wisky really isn't that good, so again a loss will turn up the heat even more. An Iowa loss would be the proverbial "nail in the coffin." I also believe there's no way Trev's is or wants to make this decision single-handedly. One of the reason Trev was hired was that he has a history of making tough decisions for the betterment of an athletic department. He's even stated that he has put together a group of local CEO's and other important-type people to advise him for the inevitable Memorial Stadium capacity and/or other changes. Parting ways with a NC winning former player who was endorsed by Osborne and who almost everyone wanted to come here in 2017 isn't a decision to be taken lightly. I would be very surprised if Trev didn't have a similar, albiet non-public, group of advisers who will help him with this decision if it comes to that. Although, I believe Trev would want and get the final say in what happens. I think if we win at least two more including Iowa, then this conversation is moot. At least for this season.
  4. We were when we canned Solich. 20 years later with poor leadership and bad hires…..We’re more on the “defeated”end of the spectrum.
  5. I agree that any assistant changes that may happen are a year too late. I can't remember where I heard or read it, but IIRC, Frost sought advice from Mike Tomlin (not 100% sure it was him) about staff changes/firing coaches after last season and Tomlin recommended keeping the staff together.
  6. Iowa was incredibly +15 on turnover margin before Purdue. They play a good zone against the pass, but a good QB with good receivers can beat it. That's pretty much the key to beating Iowa. Don't hand them turnovers left and right. Their offense sucks and that got exposed today. Got to say. This made my day a little better.
  7. I don't know what actually happened, but if the minority ruled "no bowl" and HCSF allowed it, then it's pretty clear HCSF didn't want any part of a bowl either. He must have been content with ending it with a road win against the perennial powerhouse Scarlet Knights.
  8. I think you're right. This is how NU differs from those teams you mentioned. Ryan Day essentially demoted his DC because his side of the ball wasn't getting it done. Ballsy, but hey, it's working. Accountability. This is big boy football. The NU O-line hasn't been getting it done for 4 years. Special teams? We treat them like an afterthought. As soon as someone who matters grows big enough cajones to make some uncomfortable decisions in Lincoln, we can expect more of the same. 6-6 would be a phenomenal year. Sad.
  9. Our middle linebackers are horrible at covering the 3rd down back across the middle. With little QB we make it too easy. This and some in the secondary just can’t cover. Pass D getting exposed big time.
  10. Follow up something good with something bad. Huskers in 2021.
  11. Just when I’m thinking we have a good team, but just a brutal schedule, we go out and do this. And remind me we’re still the same team that can’t string together more than one or two decent league games. Just very disappointed in this team.
  12. Except our punters can’t pin the ball in this situation. Just go for it.
  13. Good get. Plays QB (really well) at Millard South. Sounds like just the type of athlete we need at OLB. Love the last name too.
  14. I don’t think Bye weeks help prepare for the next opponent as much as they do to just help heal up and get the body some rest. Minny is down to the 3rd string RB, but their O line is massive. They’ll get some yards and eat some clock, but I don’t see them getting many points against our D. 28-17 NU.
  15. A lot of that was their O-Line doing a good job of handling our front 7.
  16. I pretty much agree, but how do we shuffle the staff to fit in a ST Coordinator? A dominant OL likely isn't happening without a change Recruit the right RB or actually coach up the ones you have and this is very doable. Iowas seems to have no problems doing this. Again, likely not happening for us without a change. Martinez seems like about 90% of the offense. Maybe that's a necessity for now, but it certainly isn't a good formula for long term success. A dedicated QB coach shouldn't be needed with Lubick as the OC and Frost as the HC IMO. Maybe that's how we get the ST coach?? I dunno. I just know the current formula has gotten us closer, but we're still not where we want to be.
  17. I hear ya, but I'd say a BIG reason why we're able to compete with anyone is having a four-year starter at QB who is playing his best football this year. We can't have him forever. Maybe this is his last year. The O-line, the RB's, the tackling on D, the special teams--those aren't going away and those aren't the reason we can compete with anyone.
  18. Those weren't "close" games. And, yes as you insinuate we have made great progress in not getting embarrassed. The team is much better this year than 5 years ago, for sure, but they still don't know how to close in a tight game. We've made no progress there. Hopefully that comes soon. Looking ahead at OSU, Wisky and Iowa... I can see them all being close one-score games. With our ineptitude in those games we could loose all of them. A record of 5-7 with 7 one-score loses would not be progress. It's either a W or an L. Close doesn't count.
  19. Have some damn reality. Have you not watched the past 4 years? If you have, what exactly did you see to inspire confidence that we would pull this one out? Throttling a glorified HS team last week? Illinois, OU, MSU, MU.....you see a pattern? When does it stop? We don't win close games. We have beaten three bad teams and have lost the four close games we have been in. Props to us for keeping good teams close. That is progress, but at some point you have to win one of these. I'm not calling for a new coach or anything crazy like that. But I am firmly planted in reality. We are chokers in close games against good teams until we some day figure out how to change that.
  20. 1. Our MLB's failed to cover the TE across the middle all night. 2. Michigan is a good team. Good lines. Somewhat more athletic than we are as a team (although we're close) and light years more so than NW. 3. B1G teams with good special teams play, win close games more often than not. Michigan did. Also, Iowa. 4. Harbaugh is still a D-bag. He spent the entire night arguing with officials. 5. Big ten officials are pathetic. 6. I once again knew we would squander our opportunity to win. Didn't even enjoy the 4th qtr. I knew what was to come. I just didn't know how we would do it this time. 7. Lincoln Police still make no attempt to assist with post-game traffic flow.
  21. I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing more highlights like this. Most backs are tackled by that LB. Yant is a difference maker for sure.
  22. Maybe the blowout win helped, but the Memorial Stadium experience was really cool. I loved the new red light/pyro show after the 3rd quarter.
  23. I'd say you guys are the top team in the B1G right now. I'd even pick you in a matchup w/ OSU. Your D is absolutely stellar.
