  1. Yes. As evidenced by education level voting patterns, and whatever flavor-of-the-month issues to be scared of in education and academia on right-wing media. It's probably similar to what the 'mainstream' media is. That is, to folks inside the right-wing echo chamber, anything that isn't conservative.
  2. Because it's easier for Republicans to get votes from people who don't go to college and don't get 'mainstream' educations. Pretty simple.
  3. This is true, but also inevitable. It applies to over-labeling right-wing figures as white supremacists as much as it applies to commentators calling teams or players 'great' or 'elite' in sports, as much as it applies to conservatives whining about snowflakes and safe spaces. But just in case the reason for this current side tangent isn't clear to anyone, here's how it happened: 1. Libs of TikTok draws attention to a PRIDE/drag queen event in North Carolina 2. The mayor of that town cancels the event after "feedback received from citizens", including plenty of hate/harassment/threats. 3. Dave Reilly, who lives in Idaho, who marched in Charlottesville, has tweeted things like “All Jews are dangerous” and "Example #109 of why suffrage was a mistake:", and has organized with Identity Evropa (an unapologetic Neo-Nazi group), saw this and then asked Libs of TikTok to "do this one next!", linking to an upcoming PRIDE event in whatever french name town idaho. This was June 2. 4. The Idaho Tribune, which is...generously speaking not a real news organization, tweets about the event. "They" whoever they are (they often amplify Dave Reilly's content, and are based in the town the event is happening in). This was June 6. 5. There's good reason to suspect that David Reilly's website and the Idaho Tribune website are owned by the same person. 6. One day later, Libs of TikTok (the owner of which lives in New York) starts posting about the Idaho PRIDE event. 7. Two days later, Libs of TikTok shares Idaho Tribune screenshots. 8. 31 members of the Patriot Front white supremacist group are arrested in the back of a UHaul on their way to the Idaho PRIDE event. 9. @Archy1221 comes in and claims that some people are calling Libs of TikTok lady a white supremacist because she reposts videos, despite the fact that nobody actually called her a white supremacist, and if they did it's clearly not because she reposts videos.
  4. There's something fishy about all of this. Lots of articles making claims without sources, and lots of, "this mysterious message was forwarded from an anonymous source we trust" that can't be vetted. The alleged posts by the alleged group(s) are also really weird, feels like it could be copycats LARPing as Stupid Anonymous™‬ Regardless, there's no room for violence or tactics like this in civilized society. Glad to see the President and media/watchdog groups call it what it is.
  5. Outside of dozens of possible reasons for this, one easy one is that they probably waited because now that the movie is making hundreds of millions of dollars they'll get more money.
  6. Powerful people that other powerful people interact with isn't really much in the way of evidence against someone with decades worth of credible accusations of racism and well documented flirting with white nationalists.
  7. Boston fans/Warriors haters can't stop whining about the officiating. While I wouldn't qualify the officiating as 'good', I think most of the complaining is about how physical they're letting them play moreso than it is being bad. The Celtics are actually benefitting more, but failing to take advantage at the free throw line and failing to rise above the physical and chippy play mentally instead focusing on being upset and letting it get under their skin. This Warriors dynasty is so entertaining to watch. Hope it goes to Game 7.
  8. Not everyone, arch. Usually just the ones with documented ties to racist white supremacy Like the President you voted for twice, for example.
  9. The existential threat to our democracy isn't quite as immediate or explicit as it was when Trump was actually in office. Biden would probably win re-election if its against Trump, because people will mobilize against the cheeto, but if he doesn't win enough people will probably not bother after the exhaustion of the last few years.
  10. Personally I feel like this show is missing a great opportunity to feature more children escaping from professional adult mercenaries by jogging through some mildly inconvenient bushes.
  11. To be clear, I am vehemently and entirely against the death penalty in all forms. All I'm saying is that if we're going to have the death penalty, which I think is evil, then it should be in the public square to force us to reckon with the evil we desire.
  12. That's..... really fast. That's prime of his career Reggie Bush fast.
  13. To investigate links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with Trump's campaign, and also to pursue "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation." Not only is the word 'collusion' nowhere to be found in any of that, as it's a Trump/media buzzword, but Mueller also explicitly did not reach a conclusion on possible obstruction of justice in regards to Trump, operating under the DOJ's legal opinion that federal investigators can not indict a sitting President. Your claim that he was mandated to nail Trump is categorically false and the exact opposite of what was true; it was baked in that there would be no nailing of Trump no matter what from the very start.
  14. States that have the death penalty should also have it be in the 'town square', so to speak, imo.
  15. I'll help you out, the links are timestamped all you have to do is click play.
  16. I think starting on the ends and then working to the middle is a good way to figure out where we collectively start and stop valuing life haha
  17. Comparing doesn't mean the same thing as equating, which isn't what he was doing. But it does bring up a compelling lane of thinking. It's obvious that a fetus is "life". Nobody denies that. The "if we found unique DNA on Mars we would celebrate finding life on another planet!" argument is....true, but a red herring because nobody is arguing that it isn't life. The conversation rests solely in when and why do we start to value that life, because we kill alive things all the time.
  18. Maybe this is a dumb question, but if states are going to be cool with having the death penalty, why not kill them the day they get sentenced? After a month? After a year? A decade max to leave a reasonable amount of time for appeals if they were wrongly convicted?
  19. Of course. And I rarely text and drive, and even more rarely if I'm actually moving, and even then it's usually using my voice. But I'm certainly guilty of doing it, as are many. My main point wasn't to say that is fine, or imply that I shouldn't be concerned about the people around me, but the immediacy of responsibility is a real distinction. Of course we feel more responsible people we're more blatantly aware of or more closely connected to.
  20. As soon as that scene started I started laughing and yelling "NOOOOOOO", as it was clear they were riffing off the fan theories surrounding how Ant Man could have easily Killed Thanos The Boys is my favorite show out right now, and also maybe the best social commentary in pop culture.
  21. In regards to the risk tolerance discussion, which is really what gun control is about, I look at it like this. The odds of a young child getting their hands on a responsibly locked gun are very low, but not zero. However, the odds of that gun being useful for protection are also incredibly low, especially if it's safely locked away. I don't know if the stats exist but I'd love to see a comparison of accidental homicides and suicides by gun owners in their homes compared to successful thwarting of invasion with guns. And yeah I definitely occasionally text and drive. But when I have anyone else in my car the odds that I'll do that are drastically reduced, because I'm now responsible for taking care of that person. I feel similarly about owning a gun when you have things that make that situation more risky (ie children in the house).
  22. There's so many ways you can start tackling it, but the desire isn't there. Zoning laws are one of the huge factors that make it difficult. Maybe even the biggest. There's endless potential and feasibility for ~$25,000 energy efficient home builds, before you get into all the laws and regulations that make it next to impossible. I'd love to see, for a start, the government start selling off land it owns and doesn't need (which there is plenty of), with low cost sustainable houses built onto lots at a low-income feasible rate.
