  1. I know I got some of yall fired up (which is always exciting for me!), but I don't want to come across as a snob or jerk or know-it-all. It's just my opinion. I am wrong to quickly think that the 2023 defense is the best I ever saw. Which was my opinion. I was told the 2023 was not the best I've seen. I don't remember that season being so awesome that you all are so fond of back in 2009. If you want to reflect on that year and husk your corn over it, go have a ball. No worries. That was a long time ago, I'm sure there some video out there with full games and not just highlights or slow motion highlights and hip-hop music to keep you fired up. And that's fine too. I just don't understand the push back. This 2023 defense did great with points per game allowed, and even yards per game and yards per play. I shouldn't have ever said best ever on a Nebraska football message board. Because it's like having a different opinion about the Runza, and folks will let you know how wrong you are. On record, neither team won a conference championship (2009 or 2023).
  2. Well that's your opinion. I have mine. You have to go WAAAY back to 2009...... 13 years ago to bring up your bragging points or discredit the 2023 team. Again, yall need to really understand this. Outside of the top 15 rankings for wins and losses, and the ever changing top 20, nobody cares about "strength of opposing offenses" stats. In fact, nobody cares about any team's worth outside the top 15. Nobody cares if you hold down the fort against teams with stats ranked outside of.............. Including 2009. But, the 2009 defense did their job pretty good, and so did 2023. And neither won the conference.
  3. Yards per game? What about 2010? @runningblind said 2009 AND 2010. Nobody cares about offenses faced unless you want to put your own personal oomph into it. Plus nobody cares. When you play anyone outside of the top 20, you can't be taken seriously. Probably top 15. If you know, you know. And, .64 per play more is not really that impressive. It's not that much more to be honest. Because nobody cares. 10.4 points per game is very impressive. I will give you that. Good job 2009 Husker defense!
  4. @Decked I think you should edit the topic/thread to "discussing Saterfield". That way, we can continue to have the discussions, and your first post and thoughts can remain golden! Plus, the thread can go on and on forever until, someday Sat gets a fat raise or does get fired. Come on dawg, you are in Kansas and I am in Texas. If you alter the thread title a little bit to keep it civilized on HB, I will meet you in Arkansas for hog hunting, and grill you some pork chops, pork butt and bacon. With extra pork butt fat. And backstrap.
  5. That's right, extra practices are just practices. Season is over and players have game tape to work off of. They have 9 months too. How is anybody going to get better with 15 more practices in December, when everybody knows it's just bulls#!t
  6. Let's go have wings, drinks, shoot pool and discuss it! Seriously though, tell me what did 2009 and 2010 defenses do better? You can talk about Peso (6-7 DB's at once!!!! That's fire!!!) and bring up Ndakamato Suh!!!! But hopefully, you can add more to what you are implying from those 2 old defenses that were clearly better than this year's defense. I don't mind listening and being proven wrong. I am probably wrong and that's okay. But not far off though. Maybe I'm just thinking that this is the best defense in the past 5 years. Or 7 years. 2010 would be 13 years. Maybe I need a reminder instead? Tell me how good the 2009 & 2010 defenses did in comparison? With points allowed per game, yards per game, and other neat stats that was more impressive. I'd love to see the comparison, because I want to know if I am clearly wrong to think this was the best defense I have ever seen collectively. Show me those 2009 AND 2010 stats. Then let's go shoot pool and grab wings
  7. This is so on-point, I knew I liked you ! The more I read what you said, the more I want to be your best friend from Texas !!! You can wear my Southside White Sox hat and I'll wear your Cubbies
  8. I don't get the idea of 15 more practices thing. I never did. Usually at the end of the year, the starters are looking to heal up injuries and not go full out and practice more. Sure, they would love to enjoy a trip to California or Florida, play a game with smiles. But also, many bowl games are not as viewed as how important the game used to be. Since McCaffery skipped his bowl game with Stanford to get ready for the NFL draft, tons of players have done the same thing since (and to avoid injuries). It's really gotten bad the last 2 years. Remember when KSU was to play Alabama, and several players from the Tide chose not to play? Alabama still rolled over KSU. It really stinks when you get a matchup the looks fun on paper, and the QB for the other team chooses not to play, and their RB and 3 best players on defense. The extra Husker practices from Bowl games is just some extra conditioning for the healthy Husker players, and gives the staff something to do (and Nebraska writers something to write about). For the fans it's another game to look forward to and another reason to drink in mid December lol. I'm joking, I'm kidding... but there is a little truth in that.
  9. LOL I think this thread will stand on it's own legs. I hate the title, but I do appreciate the discussion (OC & offense). As for the sock, as shown in rumorville, is a terrible fail attempt. Plus his login name is a spoof. The real legend is: @the.sock.puppet You can even hover his name to see the sock signal. But for the better of the board, I hope he stays away and enjoys his sweater vest.
  10. 2023 Season Greetings from our Husker QBs, Tonto, Tarzan and Frankenstein! Pretty sure you can point at HH here...
  11. Yeah. The thought of Howard is silly. So is the thought of Rogers. Plus there are other threads to discuss current Husker QBs and transfer portal players (QBs too). So yeah, I made my point.
  12. That's good to hear, and he did spend time there during his career. Brady Hoke resigned and did a good job there. SDSU has been a good, solid football team. I know it's SDSU, but come on, who wouldn't want to live in San Diego making bank? I know I would. This is likely the first of many interviews and opportunities for him. Me thinks he will have to narrow it down to 3 choices when that time comes. He did a great job, and selfishly I wish he would return. But he did put the footprint down for this defense, setting the foundation for this defense, and I'm sure someone on the Husker staff will be able to take what he installed and keep it going. Hopefully.
  13. Best defense I've ever seen from the Blackshirts. I don't remember the Big 8 studs, because that was so long ago and didn't get to see every game on TV. But, this defense had DBs and Safeties coming up & making tackles at the point of contact, plus covering receivers. The LBs rotated and attacked the RBs. The DL was hard to run through, even on third and short or 4th and short. And collectively put pressure on the QBs. Bottom line, this defense kept teams off the board during games, and kept teams from breaking long runs and connecting on deep passes that typically broke the games open in previous years. Points Allowed Each Game - Husker defense. Bold represents what I think was definitely enough to win games with a normal offense to help them out. (Even 24 should be enough to win IMO). This is sick and incredible. 13 36 11 14 45 7 9 14 20 13 24 13
  14. Fire Satterfield thread. Could be a place for discussion. Or reasoning. Or venting. Or moving on. However, with 9 months until next season, I get the feeling the thread will reach 75 pages by then. Maybe 80. No worries tho, carry on
  15. Will Howard is an average QB. Will Rogers is way better. Stats: Will Rogers Miss State (SEC) 42 games, 12K yards, 94 TDS, 28 INT Stats: Will Howard Kansas State (Big 12) (crickets...) OK, I will be nice. Will Howard KSU 30 games, 25 interceptions, 58% comp, 5K yards. Woo He's kinda meh. And the perfect fit for Northwestern or iLLinois or maybe Minnesota, and that's it.
  16. Amazing. The play before was an illegal pass called against them, for crossing the LOS and passing blah blah blah. But if you get the chance to watch that exact same play, you will also see an Alabama lineman illegally downfield 10 yards and nothing was mentioned. It's so obvious it's hilarious. But it goes unnoticed because I wish I had the clip. I saw it happen live, then several times during highlights of that 3rd and goal play. Not a word from anyone. They are both 5 yard penalties, they got penalized for the QB thing and backed up. But still, .... in college football, the rules state that if an OL goes 3 yards beyond the LOS, it's a penalty......The bama lineman was running 10 yards downfield before the pass was thrown. My question and concern is, why is that it ignored? And what else goes ignored? I guarantee it's flagged every time in most games. Refs love to call that foul because it's their job to pay attention to it. Not that it would have changed the outcome, but still.... it's an obvious penalty in front of everyone who see's it. So if refs can disregard fouls for this or that, then they can turn their head on anything and everything, but also throw the flag when they want to. I'm not saying... I'm just saying. Sometimes teams are not always as good as they look in the mirror. Sometimes teams do get help, especially if you've been dominating the CFB world.
  17. 9 months until next year.  Nov 25th through Aug 25th.  Do you like fishing?  Carpentry work?  Using DeWalt tools? Mixing together a Judas Priest or Tupac tape?  Shopping for Bugle Boy Jeans?  Rebuilding your truck's suspension?  Lift some weights in the garage? Eat another Runza?  Quit vaping?  Go to a Seminar or Worskshop?  Play Star Wars again?  Sit on your butt and talk Huskers every day?  Only 9 months until next season starts up.  What are your plans and to-do lists?  Don't wait until New Year... Let's hear it HB !!!

  19. Ty Rob and Nash leaning on coming back next year would be huge. Best news for sure. @Mavric you mentioned a bad feeling about Fidone. Is that just reading the tea leaves? Or a gut feeling from too much cranburry sauce before thanksgiving dinner? He always seemed to be all-in (N). Unless he has strong NFL goals and might be considering a different place with a solid passing game. I would understand that.
