  1. Wasn't it about this time last year that he claimed he didn't want NU to become the next Iowa. I think most NU fans would have loved to have been in the championship game today with a chance at the playoff. i·ro·ny A state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result. I guess Eichorst may put that statement in the oops column.
  2. From a television market $$$$$ point of view, I don't think the Big 12 would do themselves any favors by going after another Texas school. Way too many from that state already.
  3. As a bright side, and nothing more than a glass half full statement, Riley beat UCLA in 2012 with the Beavers, the same year we lost to them. I am sure having Sean Mannion at QB helped though.
  4. Last year we had four defenders on your list. This year we have three defenders and two specialists. We'll see how the offense comes out but that seems pretty comparable. You forgot to call him Robin That was funny.
  5. Shows what a simple upgrade in coaching will do if the players want to be coached. Good on Alonzo. Imagine if the entire staff had been an upgrade...god Imagine if the entire team would have accepted coaching from the start until waiting until the last 3 games, it would have been quite a season. Well I guess, everyone except the qb, because he never did. 9-10 wins would have been easy. Would you try to teach a deaf kid to hear? Would you try to teach a kid with glasses to "see" better?... It is poor coaching that ruined this year, you know that, deep down you know that. No one, no "kid" no "person" wants to let people down and fail. This staff let them down...100%. TA should have had 3 types of passes all year...deep passes...playaction passes and rollouts...that is it...period. Our staff made up of a bunch of virgins never figured that out. +1
  6. I hope it happens. I think he would be a good addition to the staff.
  7. Tommy Armstrong is among the national leaders in interceptions. Unfortunately, he plays on the offensive side of the football in a Mike Riley offense. Of course it's not all on the quarterback, but it's the position that touches the football virtually every offensive snap. And this foolish Callahan V.2 offense is going to be turnover prone.....it puts the ball in the air too much. Get serious, an offense like Oregon and Baylor are turnover prone, Riley's offense is not in that category. With a competent Qb, it would be one of the least prone to turnovers. Specifically, what in their style of play makes those teams any more turnover prone then any other offense to include Riley's?
  8. I feel the same way. At this point, his his statement is just words and hope.
  9. I know many teams and fans are hoping for major upsets in the upcoming conference championship games. I am as well but most likely not for the reasons others are. If Alabama and/or Clemson get upset, I predict that it will start a national media conversation about not all power 5 conferences having a championship game. It is not a level playing field IMO. Last year the Big XII rolled the dice and came up on the short end of the stick in eyes of the playoff committee. This year, they rolled the dice again and came up roses. Thus, some teams with a final game have every thing to lose and nothing to gain. Perhaps an argument could be made the other way as well, but I still believe consistency across all conferences is required to ensure a fair evaluation when selecting the final teams.
  10. Perhaps your right about a high level QB not being on the roster? However, at this point I would be okay with a serviceable game manager. I know many love the gunslinger mentality that Tommy brings to the table and its exciting to watch when all the pieces are clicking. The problem is that gunslinger mentality puts us in more bad situations then good IMO. We would not always need those great come backs from him if he hadn't already shot the team in the foot with bad decisions / throws. I want a GREAT QB just like the next fan! But once again, I will take a game manager in the mean time, and I think Fyfe could do that with some experience under his belt and an OC that does not ask too much of him.
  11. I really don't care if Fyfe plays or not. That being said, if we're going to be critical of a kid that has no PT, I think it is ok to be fair. I dont recall the exact situation but I believe one ball was money and was tipped to Purdue (Reilly Maybe) and I think the other was either a receiver that fell or a route communication. I am with you. Not all those INTs were on Fyfe, despite what the record books say. I thought he showed promise for the amount of playing time he has had. Of course, none of the INT's are on Langsdorf either. I am sure we can petition to get them added to Armstrong's total, since he was at home watching the game from his couch. Nice third grade response.
  12. I thought you left this thread.

  14. NU never led at one point in that game. For 26 of the 30 minutes of the 2nd half, Iowa led by 11 points. NU was not threatening to win that game. Did the cold weather make it look like you were watching a different game? All due to mistakes by one player and the tossing of Gerry. The playcalling was pretty damn good all game long. You go boy! Way to throw the players under the bus. God know the coaches weren't seeing the same thing and calling mostly passing plays... Definitely only one player that cost is the game. PASS PLAYS FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Pass plays beat Michigan St, brought us back against Miami, kept us in the game against Iowa. So we should ignor the strength of the team (our recievers) ranked as the best in the B10 and run the ball with our backs?????????? Really! I have no words for that.PASSSSSSSSESSSSSSSSS FORRRRRREEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR! Honestly though dude. You're the one saying TA sucks. If your QB is throwing the game away, and you were making a million dollars to coach, wouldn't you maybe call fewer passes? You play with what ya got. True. Perhaps playing to their strengths and not their weakness should be considered? Blah Blah Blah That's crap, we don't have the O-line to be one dimensional or the backs! live in the real world. I don't speak blah blah.

If your QB cannot reliably get them the ball, then are they still a strength?

  17. I wish we had a more clear picture on what the actual skill set separation is with the current QB's on our roster. The sample size with just the Spring game and one career start for Fyfe is pretty small. Setting aside the vast amount of turnovers in the game Fyfe started, which inexperience surely played a role, I thought he showed some promise. Bush looked like a less experienced version of Tommy in the Spring game to me. Darlington was the only QB I saw that actually went through consistent progression with his reads, but seems to have fallen off the map. I learned my lesson about assuming a hotshot QB in high school will translate to college. Stanton being the most recent example. So, POB has promise on paper, but nothing more. I am just hoping someone steps up big time next year.
  18. I hope not. A guy who has proved he can do less with more. He has the keys to a Ferrari in terms of talent but never seems to get his team where they need to be.....lately.
  19. As a fan and not a coach, its easy for me to say what I wish for. I hope the staff will build for the future and regulate Tommy to a backup role. IDK if POB will be the answer or not, but I have seen enough of Tommy to say that his roller coaster type of play is emotionally exhausting and not good for the team in general. I am sure a new QB will bring on many frustrations for fans as his learning curve progresses, but I can live with that. Mistakes from a QB who is inexperienced or has lack of playing time does not frustrate me near as much as watching an experienced QB do it. I think it may be safe to say that Tommy will continue with lob and pray passes and inconsistent game play. Bring on the next guy.
  20. Props to Banker. He did his job well enough for the Huskers to win. I have been pretty down on Banker this year, but I agree that the D played well enough for us to win against Iowa. The D has shown improvement over the last few games.
  21. I hope we make a bowl. I want to see my team play again and the extra practice never hurts.
  22. Yeah, or you run 1 yard for first down and have 4 more plays....there's always that. The pass play was there. The blown call was third and 1 not just plowing Armstrong straight ahead behind center, where Iowa didn't have anybody lined up. Ran it off-tackle or whatever instead and got stuffed. I guess I'm too dumb to figure out how to imbed the tweet. More proof as to why TA needs to concentrate on his classes and have a good life away from football. He is legally retarded at playing the QB position. The really frustrating part is that a lot of the less intelligent posters will blame the coaches when they are trying to win games with a QB that is the equal to having one hand tied behind their back due to his lack of football intelligence. TA has guys wide open and most of the times chooses the wrong guy to throw to. That is on Bo's sorry ass for not recruiting anyone better and no depth. Now we are faced with starting a true freshman next year or face another year of bad QB play that will cost us games. TA just needs to go away and give his scholarship to someone who won't sabatoge the season with his poor decsion making. Do you realize that calling people retarded does not help make any sort of point, and does you no favors in looking more intelligent than the "less intelligent" posters you are attempting to call out? I think your post is an absolute insult to many very knowledgeable posters on this board. So, if they don't agree with your assessment that our loss or losses are all TA's fault and not on the coaches, they are not as smart as you? You narrow point of view reminds me of the Lieutenant that yells charge at the first sight of the enemy without ever looking at the larger picture. Every leader or coach in this situation, needs to evaluate the strengths and weakness of his team. They must understand his own teams center of gravity and evaluate the opponents center of gravity to better understand how to beat them. To over simplify, you then put your players in the best position you can based on this to win games. Yes, many times things can be attributed to TA and his poor decision making. However, it is on the coaches when they continually call plays that are not suited to a player who struggles throwing and accurate ball, does not account for the weather and does not display the decision making a veteran QB should. There are other questionable coaching nuggets we have all seen throughout the season as well, but this post is already long enough. Know your enemy and know yourself – your victory will be painless. Know the weather and the field – your victory will be complete. SunTzu The Art of War
  23. I wish Langs would call higher percentage pass plays. We are down in points so he panics, and feels the need to get quick strikes. With a QB that makes poor decisions, that's not a good combination.
  24. I am really burned out on Tommy's lob and pray plays. Not what a veteran QB should be doing.
