  1. Actually, I mentioned him awhile ago in one of the coaching replacement threads to take over for Coz. He coaches LB's at USC...Nebraska DC would be a nice step up for him. He always gets kudos on broadcasts for being a coach players like to play for. If Bo comes in as HC, then Ken would be good candidate to learn under Bo. Maybe could use more experience as a coach but has great NFL and Super Bowl resume. I like him and think he is on the rise. I'd have to think he is eyeing UCLA as well if they drop their coaches...he could maybe be DC there. He played his college years at UCLA.
  2. A while back when this downslide started to occur, I thought this might be our best chance at a W...sticking with that so... NEBRASKA 34 Kansas State 33 Rush 141 Pass 229
  3. Not too surprised on this actually. He probably wanted to address the team before their last home game. Also, this definitely means he and his staff will be doing absolutely zero recruiting during the bye week. He is gone no doubt. Wouldn't be totally surprised to see him reach a deal and leave after K-State but I think he'll likely just go through the motions and be here through end of the year and be gone after CU. Then TO will announce his search publicly. We have to remember that our future coaching targets are now getting into critical last games of their seasons. Heck, LSU is still in the national championship chase so that is going to keep Bo Pelini occupied for awhile. Here is my gues on Bo...if LSU reaches the national championship, he will remain at LSU through that game but potentially be named head coach at Nebraska after the SEC Championship in early December. If LSU does not reach the national championship, look for Bo to be named head coach and likely not coach with LSU in whatever bowl they reach. He would come to NU immediately if this is the scenario.
  4. Committed to Arizona. Bass is now the #1 all purpose back on Rivals.
  5. Mike Stoops looks like he will remain at AZ (Bo will be unlikely to pull him in as DC): http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/hourlyupdate/210226.php Here in So. CA on local radio Karl Dorrell of UCLA is under fire (poor Jay Norvell...he went from one under fire staff to another ). Anyway local radio was even speculating on trying to lure Steve Spurrier to the powder blues . Also, Colin Cowherd on his national show mentioned Chris Peterson (Boise State) as good next choice for UCLA. I bring this up because (like us) UCLA will likely be looking at a new head coach and we will be looking at some of the same candidates. Here is what a UCLA fan from http://www.bruinsnation.com/ has to say on potential candidates: Here are some coaches I DO NOT want, and why: Mike Leach. Because he cannot coach defense, and will be eaten up by the offenses in this league. Because he's something like 3-18 against ranked teams. Brian Kelly. Because he really hasn't proven all that much. Taking D;Antonio's Cincy team and winning some games in his first year, is not enough. How many big-time teams has he beaten in his career? Kirk Ferentz. Because he's really not a very good coach, despite some mid-career success at Iowa Norm Chow. Because he's 62 and has never been given a head coaching offer. Rocky Long. Because he's not a particularly good coach. Greg Schiano. He's had one good year in his life Pat Hill. He's a hack. Any ex-NFL coach besides Schottenheimer or Cowher. Because just coaching in the NFL is no great thing. Callahan, Wannestedt, Gailey--all failures. Just because someone has a "name" does not make him a good coach. Okay, whom does that leave us with? Not all that many, really. There's my first choice, Chris Peterson. There's Navy's Paul Johnson. Randy Edsall of Connecticut. Schottenheimer. Cowher, both big longshots. Petrino, another fantasy hire. Jim Grobe of Wake, maybe. After that, Dan Guerrero (UCLA AD) is going to have to come up with the best young assistant in the country. Interesting read. I think Peterson may be their target ultimately (as long as he can have a strong DC). Arguably their most valuable coach now is their DC DeWayne Walker who has shown flashes of brilliance (shutting down USC last year) but has been too inconsistent. If they don't keep Walker I think he might be a HC candidate at a smaller program. Will be interesting to see.
  6. Cowherd can be entertaining but the guy repeats himself too much. He's definitely opinionated and sometimes comes off as a bafoon holding a lame position (guess it makes for good radio though)...sometimes I agree with him and sometimes I don't. I do like that he talks a lot of college football. I thought his take on Chris Peterson (Boise State) possibly replacing Karl Dorrell at UCLA was a good idea. UCLA could really steal some headlines from USC if they have a great offense. Peterson strikes me that he could do a good job at UCLA so thought Cowherd had something there. Anyone hear his take this morning on that?
  7. If Bo Pelini becomes head coach, what do you think about Larry Fedora coming in as the new OC? Link to Fedora's bio: http://www.okstate.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SP...p;Q_SEASON=2007
  8. 1. Bo Pelini 2. Rich Rodriguez 3. Chris Peterson 4. Will Muschamp 5. Jim Leavitt / Greg Schiano / Brain Kelly / Gary Patterson / Paul Johnson / Jim Grobe / Turner Gill / Joe Glenn I'd take Pelini as HC with Gill as OC. Also would take Peterson as HC with Muschamp as DC.
  9. Has committed to Missouri. See link below...he discusses talking to Blaine Gabbert and Bryce Givens while on his visit and how he wants to recruit them to Missouri. Hope these guys call TO. I know Mizzou is up this year but I just don't believe they are going to be in a BCS game anytime soon. http://missouri.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=732306
  10. Sorry to hear the news, Sam, as it must be disappointing. Keep your head up. Thanks for your leadership you provided in your short time here. I enjoyed watching you play. I'll be rooting for you at the next level and glad you came to be a part of the Husker family.
  11. Thanks for giving it your all, Lance. I enjoyed how hard you played for the defense these last few years. You will be missed. Wished you could have been on the field more as you deserved it. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
  12. Please say "No" to Sarkisian. He's a good young OC but not ready to be HC here at NU. I was reading some of the USC boards after thier loss at Oregon today. Lots of questioning his playcalling, doesn't use the right players in the right situation, maybe he should be kicked up to the box instead of being down on the sideline. Thought it was funny cuz don't we have similar situation already!? Bo Pelini is my guy...I don't think any other candidate will match the energy Bo will require from his players. I desperately want to see energy and effort from our team. I think Bo will bring that back big time and there will be an instant jolt to the team. BC is looking for perfect execution and sometimes you see the beauty when that happens. But I think a lot of times our execution is too tough to perfect and we lose intensity and raw energy. Watching Ohio State tonight and Tressel has them playing with good execution and energy...no surprise they are doing well.
  13. I agree. Cali went into his shell after the score in the 3rd qtr. We needed to attack, but, I forgot who our head coach is. Just can't beat Texas, man that pisses me off. What is it now, 1-7 since the start of the big 12? Am I reading this correctly? Went into his shell? He did excactly what he should have. If he had come out throwing away and punted without taking any time off the clock you would be criticizing him for that. When we got down he came out with a series to get us down the field and within a field goal. The reason we lost is because we kept all out blitzing late in the game and UT did a good job of picking the right gaps to run at on two consecutive possessions We had scored 17 points the entire game and you expect Callihan to come out and "attack" and run up the score. Give me a break. Yes, Callahan should have attacked. You don't try to sit on a lead and hope Texas is not going to score on your poorly rated defense (it was obvious Texas at home was going to put points up and you'd have to score more than 17 to win). We hit them in the mouth with 17 points, we were in control, our defense was rattling McCoy...why the hell would we let them back in the game?! We were going balls to the walls on defense, so not sure why he put the brakes on the offense. I am not saying he should have passed on every down...but why go into the predictable run, run, pass, punt shell? This type of coach think absolutely lost us this game.
  14. I'm really upset right now but I'll be over it soon. The players gave it their best shot. But, man, man I am pissed we went conservative after going up 17-3 in the third qtr. We had this game won and the coaching absolutely blew it! We should have kept pouring it on but then we went to the predictable run, run, pass, punt offense and let Texas back in the game. It was so easy to see Texas would go ahead and win. I do not blame Keller at all. Basically after we give up the lead he is all of the sudden supposed to turn into Superman I guess. The playcalling was so predictable in the second half...we tried to sit on the lead and you will never win like that. McCoy is not that good of a QB...we had him down and out...to the point where he goes into the faking injury mode (he does this everytime Texas is about to lose). Why the hell would we let him get back in the game by giving him the ball back and giving him chance after chance?! The defense did the best they could...we got worn out...as expected because we kept giving them the ball and not putting together drives and additional points. I absolutely want coaches in here that know how to finish games. If we had put another TD on the board and gone up 24-3 I think Texas and McCoy melts down and they don't win this game. We let the Horns off the hook!!!
  15. Here is a troubling linked article: http://journalstar.com/articles/2007/10/23...9e005476005.txt Appears the coaches have gone in the tank and are no longer keeping contact with the recruits. What's the big deal you ask since why would BC work on this if he will not be here? That is the rub, so to speak...and I think it clearly indicates BC is not committed any more. Here's the way I see it. Imagine you are TO and you have told BC the seriousness of the situation. BC tells you he wants to fight and keep his job and he postures to the media and says he is committed to the job and coaching this team, he is going nowhere, etc. If this were the true case then as TO I would expect him to be working his arse off showing his committment now more than ever, keeping in contact with the recruits. Regardless of what happens BC can show TO he was serious about his committment by showing a dedication to the recruiting class. If BC does get fired, what is the worst thing that happens...he can look TO in the eye and say he gave his best under the tough circumstances...both part ways and move on and BC keeps dignity and respect with the program and players. If TO was true to his word saying he was going to reserve judgment on BC until the end of the season, then I have to believe BC's current non-contact with the recruits has to be viewed very negatively by TO as a sign BC has packed it in for rest of year. True character comes through facing adversity...if BC wanted it bad enough, he would do all he could. TO knows this and has found BC lacking. Who truly knows if BC has already been told he has no chance (if this was the case, then I would hold TO responsible somewhat for the situation of letting this go on too long if something does not happpen by next week). If BC truly has no chance, I think it would serve everyone better to have an interim staff with the announcement that new coach is coming. It takes away the negativity the program is under and turns the focus to the future and next coach. Allows recruits to know new coach is coming and I think a lot of them would continue with us to wait for how that turns out. Hopefully, in end we get some of these guys like Gabbert, Gray, and Woods to remain with this class. Also, the new coach will likely be able to bring in some big time recruits that we are not even aware of right now. Sit tight...more interesting times ahead soon!
  16. Great to hear the news that Kuli is N! He should be able to help out immediately. This is a good fit IMO and I expect Kuli on the field a lot next year!
  17. Not surprised recruits are looking but I think they need to see who we are going to bring in. Can you imagine a defensive recruit leaving and then having us bring in Bo Pelini! I hope Shaun as well as others make judgment after TO's decision on this.
  18. Kudos to Marlon...he is having a pretty good year and is doing what is asked of him. Great to see him pile up the catches but IMO he should not be catching the ball 13 times while others only catch it 3 times (see A&M stats). We need to get some feature star receivers in here and let them get catches. I don't think this spreading the ball around is working as no one gets into a rhythm in the season. Let Marlon catch it 5-7 times but then lets hit some WR's 7-10 times per game. Mo Purify should easily have 5 catches or more every game (my count has him doing it only 3 times this year).
  19. I am not surprised he took the trip and is considering other programs. But I am surprised it is Notre Dame and that he is no longer listed as a committ. These recruits need to see that we are going to nab a higher caliber coach than what we currently have! And Notre Dame?!! Plan to get stuffed on every run with that O-Line! Can't believe ND!
  20. Anyone notice Shaun is a at Rivals...and rated slighty higher than Kenny Demens now. Apparently he is having a great year. Way to go Shaun!
  21. IBR's info. makes sense to me: Pelini - the #1 target Leavitt - FL recruiting ties; strong feeling he is tied to So. FL but maybe once he sees the facilities, the history, the $$$...who knows...still think he is a longshot but not impossible. Patterson - TX recruiting ties, born in Kansas, defensive minded, this is a guy that may want the job and go after it hard. There is another thread here on HuskerBoard linked here Head Coach Wish List that brings up a lot of other names being thrown around on this thread (i.e. Tedford from Cal...not likely IMO, Peterson from Boise State, Johnson from Navy, etc.).
  22. I want Bo Pelini now as well and that is who I am backing. He can bring a lock down defense back to Nebraska and with a great defense, you have a chance in every game. I think we will never be USC or Florida on offense but I do think Bo has the potential to build the best defense in the country. A great defense along with a solid, top notch offense will win games and championships. We need a great offensive coordinator hire to compliment Bo. Not sure who this might be right now but this hire will be just as important. I'd consider Gill as OC but not HC. I just think we would not be able to bring in another offensive minded coach after Callahan. If it were an offensive minded coach, I think Peterson at Boise St. would be best choice...he seems to have great ability for offensive game...but then again we would need a great defensive coordinator to compliment him (maybe Peterson with Venables from OU as DC?). I don't see Tedford from Cal...he likes Cal and Cal is not defensive minded...would not be good here. Sarkisian at USC would be a reach IMO...he has great talent at USC but don't think he could come in and manage the head job at NU...he'd be overwhelmed. Norm Chow is extremely talented and a great teacher/mentor but I don't see him bringing the energy needed for our situation...too much like Cally as X's and O's guy. I don't really like the Big East guys and am not willing to take a chance on a Leavitt from So. Florida or Kelly from Cincy just because they cracked the top 10 one year. Schiano from Rutgers is probably the one I would consider closest but I have heard him interviewed and it sounds like he loves Rutgers and would not leave. Muschamp from Auburn would get consideration and he could be interesting choice. Please say no to Franchione! Applewhite...perhaps a raise to be OC here but no way he could handle HC here at NU right now IMO. Joe Glenn from Wyoming? Not sure...would he come in a coordinator role? Patterson from TCU is another guy I might consider and perhaps Johnson from Navy. When I look at all these guys...Pelini is the most exciting to me. He has been here before and now Pud is gone so there is no longer issue there. He has proven himself now and I don't think he is as big a question mark as he was back 4 years ago. You are going to get maximum effort from Pelini and in turn that is what he will require from his players. I think TO has got to like that aspect about him very much. Bring back Bo!
