  1. Ummmm.....how hard is it to run a slant route? How do you not know the basic routes to run when you are playing D1 football? This isn't JV football anymore. These guys show up on campus ready to play in some circumstances, which is obviously the case with Pierson-El. All this "he doesn't understand the system" crap is one of my biggest pet peeves about this coaching staff. Simply put your best players on the field, on either offense or defense, simplify the plays for them, and let their athleticism take over.
  2. And then I didn't see him play a single snap at WR against McNeese State......even after Bell and Turner went out with injuries. Trying to understand Tim Beck's thought processes is extremely rage inducing.
  3. All the negativity from Saturday aside, I think we need to get Pierson-El involved as much as possible in our passing attack given the injuries at the WR position. He's already shown that he has natural play-making ability with single handedly providing a spark in the previous non-existent punt return game. Isn't it funny how we leave it up to an 18 year old kid, fresh out of high school to solve our punt return woes when these coaches have had 7 years to figure it out? Anyway, nevermind that, I'm just glad that our special teams unit seems to be solid this year. But I think getting Pierson-El involved in the passing game more often. I was thinking all during the 2nd half of McNeese state, why don't we ever line him up in the slot? I know he's lower on the depth chart than Alonzo Moore, or probably another WR, but why not give him a chance when things aren't going your way? I could see him getting involved on some end arounds with his speed, as well as some quick screen passes to the outside. He had a TD running a slant against FAU. Why is Beck so difficult when it comes to giving guys playing time based not on their position on the depth chart, but natural talent and our need for someone to make a play? I say put Westerkamp and Moore on the outside and then Pierson-El in the slot, have him run underneath routes to slow down the pass rush and maybe give Abdullah some open lanes. Then once the short passing game and running game is established, let him rip deep when the defense is keying in on Westy and Abdullah. It just seems Beck is so stubborn when it comes to thinking outside the box or outside of the established gameplan that they develop during the week. If he's making plays in the punt return game, why would he not be able to translate that to our offense? I know Beck would claim he doesn't fully "understand the system", but throw that crap out the window when the team is going 3 and out time and time again. I think Pierson-El is going to be a good WR and punt returner, and seems to have natural ability, the only thing holding him back is Tim Beck's mind-boggling personnel and playcalling decisions.
  4. Nebraska 49 McNeese State 17 Passing Yards - 215 Rushing Yards - 370
  5. They just got screwed on that long pass with the ineligible downfield call. Just failed that 4th down so I don't think there's much hope.
  6. I think Gregory will be OK. It's good to get the injury out of the way against weak non-conference opponents than later in the year. Let's just hope he doesn't get Clowney-itis and decides to take the year off to ensure he doesn't get injured and so his draft stock stays intact.
  7. Wait a minute, you saw a guy make a few throws in the spring game, and now you would bet that he would win more games than the guy who came off the bench to go 7-1 against live competition? I'm just sick of all the turnovers, and I haven't seen proof that TA is going to limit them. I'm sure he will start, but he's going to have to play at a higher level if he wants to be successful.
  8. I'm gonna have to watch the MSU game on mute if Musburger is commentating......I can't do Brent and Kirk.
  9. Sorry but I'm not sold on TA4 after watching the mistakes he made in big games, i.e. throwing 3 picks against Northwestern, including the one that should have sealed the game, the pick in the 1st quarter thrown right to a MSU defender, the fumble right before the half only down 13-7 that quickly turned into a 20-7 deficit at half, the 3 picks against Purdue, etc. Basically I believe that he presses too much, and we need a guy that can intelligently run this offense, and not put our teams into positions where we need a miracle Hail Mary. Turnovers are this teams biggest problem, and with the way Fyfe threw the ball, he wasn't throwing into coverage like TA4. Just understand that we need more of a game manager at QB honestly having Abdullah back there. Just pound the ball, and Fyfe can make the simple, accurate throws and limit turnovers, and I bet we win more games.
  10. Just remember.....prime time hasn't been friendly to Nebraska in the recent past......lets hope were ready for the lights this time and don't have another Pelini-style shellacking.
  11. Might need to start game-planning for Purdue......yuck
  12. That Bo Pelini needs to update his resume.
  13. Can you imagine TO swinging a hat at a referee? Time for Bo to get out of town.
  14. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9961684/taylor-martinez-nebraska-cornhuskers-not-return-bo-pelini-says Well, none of us expected Taylor's career to end this way, especially with all the expectations for him this year. But I think it is best to move on. We have a potential star QB in TA. He seems to be the guy for this year most definitely. Tough break for Martinez, but I believe he wanted out of the limelight. He is a little awkward, and I think it showed with his play and the communication with his teammates. TA just seems to be a better fit. Wish the best for Taylor though.
  15. No excuses. Back to square one. Pelini is walking on thin ice.
  16. I'm still drinking. But that's not the kind of husker fan I am, I'm pretty sober during most games. Gotta be alert to the tendencies and playcalling that I want to analyze.
  17. They are high! They aren't that high. They offer great views of watching the plays develop, probably have more legroom, and have easier access to concessions and restrooms. If I had access I would jump all over these tickets. You'd be surprised how far up there they are, probably about 135 feet above the field. I'm not saying it's not a good view, the seats are right on top of the field. But that's pretty far up there. Is it just me or does that new upper deck seem really dangerous? The steps look extremely steep. I just am imagining someone tripping and falling down the stairs, over the railing and down on to the first level seats? I know there have been instances of fans falling over railings at other stadiums.
  18. Martinez has been consistently inconsistent his whole career. He looks great some weeks but other weeks looks uncomfortable, like when he threw pick 6's to start the OSU and B1G championship game. And also among his records, he's led the FBS in fumbles over the past 3 seasons. You can always count on Taylor to cough up at least one a game, and they sometimes come at the worst possible time. He has all the physical tools to be a great QB, but I think it is more of a mental game for him. He has difficulties reading defenses and looking to a 2nd or 3rd receiver in the progression. His football IQ seems to be a step below of QB's like Russell Wilson or Andrew Luck.
  19. I was on I-180 around 11 am and they were just starting to position the 'P'. Should be done soon.
  20. Every defensive play in the 2012 B1G Championship game
  21. The way he hits the ball is kind of awkward, he just tries to boot it as hard as he can and it turns out to be a low driving kick on longer FG attempts, so maybe he just tries to hit it too hard and ends up shanking it off the side of his foot. The reason he can make 50+ YD FG's is because all he does it boot the hell out of the ball without really paying much attention to accuracy.
  22. Bo's difficulties stopping mobile QBs at Nebraska started before he was head coach, during the 2003 year with his so-called "vaunted" defense.
  23. I think this is a good test for Martinez......a chance to shine against BCS competition on National TV. However there is still the chance that he chokes. We all know how inconsistent Taylor and O-Line are.
