  1. Seriously. The neighbors shot them off when we scored the field goal. Hell, last year they fired them off endlessly when we beat South Alabama. South Alabama. Fans of a five-time national championship program should never in a million years explode fireworks after that type of game, or after tying it up versus a zero-title school like Wisconsin. Enough.
  2. Sorry to rain on the parade, but this topic reeks of misplaced priorities. Football is game. Division 1-A football coaches are highly paid celebrities. Do they “mentor young men”? Yeah, I suppose to some extent that they do, in the same way that teachers, bosses, parents and other ‘authority figures’ play that role. But ultimately, whether a young man is going to live a moral life comes down to the decisions that they make and what they choose to believe in. Not because of what TO, Mike Riley, or some other ‘authority figure’ tells them how to conduct their lives. Frankly, it looks like some people are trying to justify their football obsession with religious arguments. Do you really think that Jesus would want people playing a hard-hitting contact sport, like football, in heaven? Sorry guys, I don’t think so. Football is about as ‘earthly’ or ‘secular’ entertainment event that I can think of. Something for mortals to enjoy down here. Not something to confuse with proper spirituality.
  3. Well, now that we are half way through the season I thought I'd come back to make my first response to this thread that I started after the BYU loss. Take a sober look at the stats, Mike Riley is now 2-4, having won only 33% of his games and 0% of conference games. By comparison, Bo Pelini won 71% of his games and 70% of conference games. Conclusion: we need to fire Shawn Eichorst, Mike Riley, and all of Mike Riley's retarded staff. And if that doesn't happen at the end of the season, this program is truly doomed for the foreseeable future. Riley is looking to be much worse than even Callahan.
  4. You got what you wanted. This is going to be a long season. And a long next several years until Riley is run out of town like Callahan. Grats guys...
  5. We'd never go back. That's pretty much just wishful thinking by ESPN, because ESPN has basically 'invested' in the Big12 and also sees the Big Ten as a business competitor due to the Big Ten Network.
  6. I trust Bo more than I trust Eichorst. And I think that at the end of the 2015 football season, most fans will agree.
  7. This is exactly why I was totally against firing Pelini in the first place. I knew that we wouldn't get Tressel or anyone even half-way decent after running another 9-3 coach out of town. To say that I have a very bad feeling about this hire would be a massive understatement. Just take a look at Riley's record. He went 3-9 in 2011 after having "built" the Oregon State program for 11 years at that point. That speaks volumes. I think we'll go 4-8 next year and have our worst season since before Devaney. Riley will be so bad that he'll make the Callahan years look good by comparison. If you don't enjoy losing, then you better find a new fall hobby.
  8. Yes, absolutely. The anti-Pelini crowd has not demonstrated that they could find a proven improvement that would seriously come here. And yes, 9+ win seasons (three of which were 10-win seasons) over seven years really is an important accomplishment, especially compared to where we were before Pelini arrived. And yes, I remember the 90s when we won the three titles. Maybe that's why I feel more patient than some of the newer fans calling for Pelini's firing.
  9. And end up with another Callahan? No thanks. Let's keep Pelini and keep a stable, winning football program.
  10. ROFL. Charlie Strong 2014: 6-6 Mack Brown 2013: 8-5 Texas would have been better off keeping Brown and Nebraska would be better off keeping Pelini.
  11. Exactly. The fire Pelini crowd will only hurt the program if they get their way, because there is no better replacement available. I'll happily take 9-10 wins per season over another Callahan type coach. No this attitude will hurt the program. No championships means no butts in the seats, no butts in the seats you can kiss your sell out streak goodbye. There is a better replacement out there. It's a question of how much you're willing to pay the devil for that replacement, because if you higher a big name and shell out the big dough, they're going to be gone after a few successful years anyway. Nebraska football is the only major entertainment option available in eastern Nebraska. The stadium will continue being full as long as we continue winning 9+ games per season with Pelini. I want to see us win more national championships too, but that is not very realistic in the current (Southern-dominated) college football climate.
  12. Exactly. The fire Pelini crowd will only hurt the program if they get their way, because there is no better replacement available. I'll happily take 9-10 wins per season over another Callahan type coach. Even after another blowout on national television? It could always be worse. 2-3 blowout losses per season (Pelini) is better than 4-5 (i.e. Callahan 2.0).
  13. Exactly. The fire Pelini crowd will only hurt the program if they get their way, because there is no better replacement available. I'll happily take 9-10 wins per season over another Callahan type coach.
  14. You had unrealistic expectations. 12-0 was clearly out of reach for this team this year. Personally, I was expecting 9-3 or 10-2 in the regular season. And I still think we'll get there. I was a little surprised that we made it to 5-0. 11 wins after the bowl game is definitely still a possibility.
  15. Lincoln is definitely AFC West territory. Half the city is partying the night away right now, while the other half are crying themselves to sleep!
  16. I voted 4. I never wanted playoffs in the first place, it cheapens the regular season games.
  17. I'm just glad that we didn't get matched against KSUcks -- that would have been as stupid as playing a Sun Belt school in a bowl game.
  18. You can't be so sure about that, if we win the bowl game that will be this year's 9th win. You sound like a propagandist.
  19. Your username should be "crymando."
  20. ROFL, Ron Brown is not qualified to be head coach at Nebraska or even at a MAC school. And no one dislikes him because “he’s a Christian.” We dislike him because he’s an Evangelical who thinks he’s one of the few “true Christians” in town. I’m morally opposed to homosexuality too, so I don’t care what he thinks about gays.
  21. If Pelini gets fired for going 8-4 in a year where most of the key offensive players were injured, including our senior quarterback, we will not find a better coach to come here. Period. Firing a coach for that could bring on a dark era where even the Callahan years seemed good by comparison (the worst of which were still five win seasons). No one else decent would put up with all the BS that the Nebraska job offers from both myopic fans and self-serving local sports media.
  22. A few other stats: * 2-0 at Happy Valley, 3-0 vs Penn State * 17-6 (74%) in regular season Big Ten conference games
  23. Exactly, we don't have enough information to be judging this guy one way or the other.
