  1. After his repeatedly butting-heads with Venables Bo may not be big on Co-DC's but I think a combo of Marvin and Dan McCarney, Phil Bennett, or that position-coach/special-teams coordinator from LSU could work.
  2. I could possibly see the Gill thing. I would hardly expect it since he another solid year at Buffalo away from a BCS-HC job. It is still a possibility he could get a promotion this year. But he has strong Neb-ties. I doubt it but I wouldn't rule it out. Stoops I could see if he was getting canned. But giving-up his HC job to DC here? I just can't see it.
  3. Putting the right staff together is a major part of coaching. BC killed himself with those lousy Coz and Elmo hires. I'm meh on Watson being OC, especially if we are looking to change the offense. I can take him but I'm not wowed. Hopefully I'm wrong. Sounds like Gil was looking outside the family for his DC-Vic Koenning from Clemson. That was a good sign, that he wasn't just looking at "buddy hires". He is his own OC at Buffalo, maybe he was figuring on being that again at Neb. It will be interesting to see how thing shake-out with Bo. We won't know anything til the team actually plays but it would be good to see guys with solid resumes being brought-in.
  4. I thought he might work-out for Pitt if he learned some lessons. He hasn't He is too arrogant to doubt himself or his actions. This extension makes BC's look good. At least BC was getting decent(not great, decent) results when he got the extension. Pedey's old buddy Wanny has done nothing but lose at three different HC-jobs. But Wanny can recruit so it is all-good right Pedey? How could their chancellor OK an extension for a losing coach for a program that was in OK shape when he inherited it? It isn't like Wanny is 15-19 at a Baylor. Pitt was a winning team when Wanny got it.
  5. Miles is gone. Herbstreit is reporting that Miles is already getting a staff together for Mich. He snagged Jon Tenuta. Dammit I wish we had made that move. If Miles keep Crowton with him and bags Tenuta Mich will be looking very good.
  6. LSU's offense didn't miss a step after losing the #1 pick in the whole draft and this was Crowton's first year at LSU. Plus Jimbo Fisher, the guy Crowton replaced, is getting a lot of love for some good HC-jobs. Crowton had big shoes to fill and he did it with ease, LSU got more productive, the least they've scored is 28. Crowton was snatched-up from Oregon where he re-ignited their offense via the spread-option. He has a long line of HC and OC experience before that. He is definitely one of the better OC's in the country. I don't know if I like our chances of getting him but he would definitely be a money hire if we got him.
  7. It APPEARS Bo is getting the job here. It APPEARS Mich is going to go for Miles. So would that leave one of the best OC's in the country in Gary Crowton? Does he stay at LSU? Does he go with Miles? Would Bo have a chance of luring him away to us? It has been reported that both Bo and TO like the spread-option. Any shot we could make this happen?
  8. This would definitely been better-off kept under wraps. Bo would be an easier sell with the SEC-championship. That will be harder to get now. The coaches are distracted. The players are distracted. Plus the players know their coaches are bolting. Tenn could pull the upset.
  9. He actually improved NC's defense drastically. Ya they were average with him, but they were freaking HORRID before he took over sole-custody. They jumped like 50-spots in the national rankings under Marvin. Marvin wasn't helped by NC's offense being inept either, all things considered he did a solid job at NC. KSU wanted him bad and there was considerable talk that ATM wanted him too, but Marvin wasn't ready to uproot his family again. From what I understand there is talk that Bo has a position-coach/special-teams coordinator from LSU in-mind for the DC job. I would hope we at-least offer Marvin the db-coach job. I still think we should offer Jon Tenuta the DC-position. He is hands-down one of the top DC's out there and with Gailey getting canned his Jon's status is in a state of flux. IMO TO and BO should be making a call to him.
  10. Maybe they figure Bo will bring in a better staff due to his broader experience than Gill. Bo likely knows a lot of good guys with and without husker ties. Half of being a HC is getting the right staff together and just enabling them to do their jobs.
  11. So why the sudden jump from "our sources say" to it is a done deal? Did somebody leak?
  12. Pedey expects credit for not firing a guy running one of the top volleyball programs in the country? Uh OK. One bad season? We had two bad seasons and the other two had fewer wins than the one in which you claimed we were falling to mediocrity. Did he bother to mention how many folks in the dept couldn't stand him and how many boosters were sick of his arrogant ass?
  13. Always pissed me off that we ditched a first-rate db-coach in Sanders to bring in Elmo.
  14. SMU is looking to throw some big cash around to get a better name than you'd generally see for a program like that. But I think Johnson would be making a mistake. He already makes very good money and SMU is barely an upgrade. He should go to a BCS-school or stay at Navy.
  15. I wouldn't jump to that conclusion about Kelly. Neb is using an agency for a reason. I doubt they asked for permission to talk to Kelly if he had no interest. Plus it looks like Mich is going after Miles so Kelly is not front-runner for that gig. Kelly could be blowing-smoke for the sake of recruiting. If he doesn't get the job he doesn't want it getting around he was shot-down or looking around for another gig.
  16. This is what we are using an agency for. So we can feel a guy like Mendenhall out on the down-low. I think there is a good shot he won't leave BYU but there is always the possibility he has dreams of coaching on a big-stage. If he would be interested he be an excellent candidate.
  17. They had a great coach long ago named Grant Teaf. He could coach, motivate, game plan, and recruit back in the SWC days. They havent turned it around since. It wouldnt take as much as it has. They have an amazing baseball program & womens basketball program too. Until a coach comes in and gets these guys to believe in themselves and win, step by step of the way, they wont get the recruits as long as they keep stinking. They get leftovers, which is not a bad thing, but no one is bringing the absolute best out of them. That's what a great coach can do. Get players to believe and overachieve by working them hard and instilling confidence while keeping them motivated and hungry. It takes only one class to get it rolling. Baylor canning Teaf was one of the all-time blunders. Haven't been worth crap since. Hopefully Briles can get things going.
  18. The 01 Miami-team had INSANE-talent, way more than any other team in the country. Keeping that boat on-course a year wasn't a huge accomplishment. As time went on(became more his team) Miami got progressively worse. Coker got to revamp and it still did nothing. At least Solich can say his team got better once they got rid of the dead-wood. Coker's team actually got worse. He isn't a bad coach but he isn't the guy for this job. Send him to SMU, Duke, or something.
  19. IMO Bo should take the Ark job if he can get it. I like Bo but some other guys with deep head-coaching resumes are interviewing against him. Kelly, Grobe, and (I think) Johnson make up a serious trio. Ark is a hell of a first-job and you don't want to get caught holding the bag if TO and company veer elsewhere. Bo better make a statement by stoning the piss out of Tenn.
  20. That is a nice honor for Gill. I think by the end of next year Gill will have a BCS-job somewhere.
  21. I don't know why for sure but Bohl is obviously much better as a HC than a DC. He has kicked major ass at NDSU.
  22. Bohl would be a very good candidate. Somebody should snatch him up soon. Frank is pretty old, IMO if he had stayed here he'd probably have handed the reigns to Gill or Bo by now. If he wasn't old he'd have likely gotten a better job than Ohio. I doubt he takes another HC-job at this point. Though if he did move he'd likely do a solid job. Glenn is barely holding-on at Wyoming. So I'd say Bohl is the best candidate.
  23. Typical guy on Navy's D would be playing 1AA ball if he weren't there. The offense works because Johnson has an awesome offensive mind and their scheme isn't really seen anymore so it is hard to really prep for in a couple practices. If Navy was a lopsidedly offensive team with real talent on D I'd be more pessimistic.
  24. IMO Mich would be stupid not to jump on this guy. Unfortunately they got first dibs. But if the don't make a move soon hopefully we could land him. Grobe or Johnson would be nice too but Kelly tops my list of realistic potentials.
  25. Ol' Miss was stupid to get rid of Cutcliffe because of one off season. His successor had nothing but those with his worst season still being better than what Orgeron was doing. I think Nutt is a solid hire by Ol' Miss standards. He won't get them a conference championship(if he couldn't do it at Ark he won't do it at Ol' Miss) but he'll get them back over the .500 mark again in a couple seasons.
