  1. Paterno has culpability because Pennsylvania has an automatic-reporter law. Once he was informed something like this happened, he is bound by state law to report it to the police. He was, allegedly, informed by the Grad Asst, and did not go to the police. Not sure what the statute of limitations on this is, but I don't think Paterno is being prosecuted for anything. But he certainly didn't do everything in his power to protect these children. That's where he's (justifiably, in my opinion) taking flak.
  2. You are quick to forgot how quickly/easily he was injured last year. Taylor got injured on a couple of fluke plays, one where he got nailed on his ankle, and another where he was stepped on by his own lineman. A few inches either way on bang-bang plays and he's not injured. People think Martinez is fragile. They forget that Burkhead has as checkered an injury list as Martinez. The difference being that we have ample backups at RB. We don't have a QB capable of leading us to the conference championship if Martinez goes down.
  3. That might be the single most ridiculous statement I've read on here. Of course in the grand scehme of things football pales in comparisson to any cancer....but this isn't a "cancer" board, it's a football board. Guess what people come on here to talk about. From all the talk in the Shed, I think they come here to talk about boobs.
  4. You can pin this problem on Bo's overall philosophy of "containing" these mobile QBs. Bo's idea is to create a containment pocket with his line, to hem this guy in. Don't give him a lane to run, but give him time to pass – the philosophy being that he's less dangerous with his arm than his legs, all the while collapsing that pocket in on him until you get him down. Where this breaks down is two-fold: First, it is damn-near impossible to play coverage for the four-five seconds this strategy relies on. You have to have two lockdown corners, and we have one (and next year, none). When a WR breaks free, even an unpressured QB for whom throwing is not his primary weapon can find a man to throw to, and make a reasonable throw as he gets open. Even Martinez, before he made his check-down breakthrough, has torched defenses that don’t pressure him. Second, for this strategy to work you MUST have a superlative pass rush capable of pushing into the QB quickly. We do not have such talent on our D Line. Our guys seem capable of the first prong of Bo's strategy – creating that bubble surrounding him. But we are incapable of collapsing that bubble, nor do we seem capable of maintaining the lanes we must maintain in order to prevent a gap which inevitably allows the mobile QB to break containment and scramble downfield. What is frustrating is that we do not blitz these QBs. It seems that we're afraid to allow our CBs to play man defense against ANY team we face long enough to get our blitzers to the QB. That is a breakdown either in recruiting or coaching; either way, it falls on Bo. Our relationship to the blitz is weird. We rarely blitz, and when we do it's into max-protect packages, meaning our blitzers are often picked up, nullifying effectiveness. Blitzing is like playing poker – you gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em. Blitzing into max-protect, where the QB has his line and two blockers (either the RB/FB or RB/H-B) is a losing proposition. It is almost always picked up, and we're suddenly vulnerable in the secondary. But on the flip side of that coin, on offense we almost NEVER have max-protect packages in for Martinez. You'd think we'd be able to do some basic self-scouting and see that this doesn't work (on offense) and see that we are pounding our head against a wall when we blitz into these pass-pro packages on defense. I have no time to go on, but I could go on and on with this. It's a very frustrating situation, on both sides of the ball. What is the most frustrating is that we seem to have no intention of doing anything different, and for a coach that preaches fundamentals and execution, he seems to be ignoring several fundamental aspects of the passing game on both offense and defense.
  5. What were those laws? Who is preventing you from gaining wealth? How are you being held down, or to use your phrase, how is water being pumped out of your lake? This is the kind of unhelpful hyperbole that gets people riled up but doesn't address reality. Nobody is preventing you from becoming an entrepreneur, developing your business, acquiring wealth and living the life you want. No water is being pumped from your lake, you're just not taking advantage of the system as it is.
  6. Yes, that was seriously my point. Right or wrong, to think that Penn State won't get heckled for years to come over this is wishful thinking. It's been 16 years and we're still hearing about Lawrence Phillips. Sometimes it's the first thing out of the mouths of our opponents. It depends a lot on what comes out in the trial, but any time Paterno is brought up you're going to have people digging at you based on this. There's always "that guy."
  7. You're just down the street from us! I didn't know that. Why are you living in the Little Apple? Lose a bet? I presume you're coming up for the big revenge game next year, correct?
  8. This was already posted in a very recent thread. Anyone who gets this wrong was 1) Not alive/aware then, or 2) not reading recent threads, or 3) Both. You should have had bonus poll questions: What year(s) and who was/were the Quarterbacks(s).
  9. I was WONDERING when someone would finally get around to posting a thread about our coaches. About time.
  10. Some more things we learned: * It is already too late to not have wasted the redshirt years of Jamal Turner, Braylon Heard and/or Aaron Green. If you're not going to use them, don't put them in the freaking game. * We are the only team in the B1G who doesn't understand the concept of blocking. Our O Line is consistently disengaging from their primary and looking for that second-level block. The only problem is, they aren't first making sure their primary is OUT OF THE PLAY. I cannot count how many times I've seen a "blocked" defender make the tackle, only to see our O Linemen standing around, not engaged with anyone. * While we're on the subject of the O Line, I learned that Holding will not be called in the B1G, no matter how blatant. It's too bad our Offensive coaches haven't figured this out yet. Maybe they will, someday. * I learned that we make adjustments sometimes, but not all the time, on this team. Bo has made some excellent halftime adjustments this year. But not this game. The same three plays burned us all game long. I cannot fathom how a "defensive genius" cannot figure out how to stop a slant, on the fly, after the first NW drive. Baffling. * I learned that Tim Beck's playbook has ZERO plays that go to the outside, aside from the Option/Speed Option. We have speed to burn on this offense, yet we don't use it. Teams like Northwestern shouldn't be hard to get outside on. Yesterday, it was not only impossible, we barely tried. * I learned that Kyler Reed is our best pass-catching TE, so we predominantly use him for blocking (at which he is abysmal), and I learned that Ben Cotton is a very good blocking TE, so of course we predominantly use him for pass-catching, at which he is average. Apparently our coaches are more interested in trying to catch the opponent off guard than simply doing what we are good at.
  11. How many Bo threads do we need? I count nine threads on the front page with either "Bo" or "Pelini" in the title.
  12. Paterno won't get fired, and definitely not in the middle of the season, for this. If they haven't fired him already they're not going to do it because this article came out. PSU has known about this investigation since at least March, 2011. EDIT - looks like this investigation has been going on for about two years. LINK
  13. Wow. Horrifying. According to the AP article on this, the law is the same in Pennsylvania. It goes on to say: LINK
  14. Couldn't disagree more. Bully for you. Having been a "good kid" and then having made many, many boneheaded mistakes (some criminal) in my life, and then turning out to be someone that is, apparently, trustworthy, good and honorable, I may have a different perspective than you. I presume from your response that you have not made such mistakes. I applaud your ability to make proper choices at all times. As a person who certainly cannot claim that, I can empathize with what Lauren is going through, and I feel horrible for her. Good, you've learned from your mistakes. I certainly can't claim I make proper choices all the time. But she had no business behind the wheel of a car, she knew she had no business behind the wheel of a car, society told her she had no business behind the wheel of a car. Her driving is dangerous to other people. She chose to put people in danger anyways. People make mistakes, but if they refuse to learn from them, I don't feel bad for them. I can still hold her responsible for her actions and yet feel bad for her. The two are not mutually exclusive.
  15. There comes a point where you realize that it doesn't matter how loud you shout. If this team played well based solely on crowd noise we would have scored against NW on every possession, and shut them down each time they had the ball.
  16. Since passing isn't a major part of our gameplan, it's to our advantage. We are the #9 Rushing Offense. NW is the #95 Rushing Defense. Advantage =
  17. Cain is being beaten up by Fox News, too. I would hardly call them 'left.'
  18. Here's where we celebrate Fonzie's first pick of the season.
  19. Your musical selection for the Wildcats.
  20. I've just decided that what I believe isn't worth arguing about with someone. My opinion on the subject has actually changed over the year, but that's my opinion and doesn't really affect anyone else. I just figured out what I believe, and that's good enough for me.
  21. Go Big Root!

      I appreciate the support!

  22. Gutted out a 26-24 win in Game two to tie the match so far. Huskers not hitting well - new setter, different ball, more difficult to set up timing. Go Big Root!
  23. Some people really enjoy it. I hate it. I don't participate, but I don't begrudge them their fun.
