  1. Like several other NU posters said earlier, if CU blitzs alot and goes man then I think CU is in for a long day. NU's offense takes advantage of mismatches, all triggered by Ganz's ability to read it and make checks. They also run plays like the zone read that allows Ganz and co to make plays on the fly. NU also likes middle screens and plays to the IB that basically destroy a blitz if executed. I think it will be interesting how the strength of NU's D, the D-Line, handles the great 1-2 punch CU has running the ball. That is the key to the game IMO. I think NU puts points up, question is if CU will keep up.
  2. Have we been watching the same QB? Cause Joe has been throwing lasers inside of 15yds! I bet if you told guys like Swift and Pettersen this they would laugh at you. YES he's underreated, sadly even by a lot of us Husker fans! In the PROs the deep out is such a tough throw with the better DB's, have to put a lot of velocity on it. I don't know if he can throw it or not, but that will be the test in the evals he goes through. If he has it, then great, I just don't know if I have seen him have that ability yet. Could be the offense, but it could be that Wats doesn't let him either.
  3. Hmm, I think we all knew this was coming. Sorry next time I’ll just post a stock answer and give Ganz some more leg humping. Although if I had to vote for MVP I would vote for Suh. He is arguably the biggest reason this defense improved so much from last year. The offense stayed on par with what was going on last year so we knew going in what to expect. People can mark this down or whatever you do with predictions, if Suh leaves the DL play will suffer a lot more next year without him then the QB play will without Ganz. Actually, I was thinking maybe just a wee bit less leg humping of Pud and Clownahan.
  4. Yeah, I miss the option. I guess I'm getting old but this spread offense stuff seems like something kids or girls would run. I think it might be harder to run the option today, but if you had the right QB and the right guy calling the plays it would still work. Like any offense you need the right players and it might be hard to find the right QB to make it go. Players know they might have less of a chance to make the NFL if they are in an option offense in college. People seem to think NU ran the option all the time (NU rarely ran a true triple option) like the wishbone or something, which is nonsense. NU ran a power running game and the option about 25% of the time. For example Tommie Frazier had 18 TD passes his senior season, for comparison Kerri Collins with Penn St and their high powered offense the year before had 21. Also I think OU probably broke the record this year but 1983 NU with Turner Gill still shared the NCAA record for offensive TDs in a season, so its not low scoring. If you had Tom Osborne calling the plays in his version of the spread, and someone like Frazier, or Gill running the offense with the option, it would be devastating. (IMO) What NU ran wasn't really a true triple option attack like what you see PJ or Navy run. NU ran a power running attack, hence the power I base formation. One of Solich's issues was that he increased the frequency of the option play thus taking out the balance in the offense that TO had, I think this is what killed him in the biggest games. If you didn't watch NU in the 80's or 90's and all you saw was post '98 then you don't realize how important it was for TO to run the power runs with the IB. The option play was a way to strech the field after the D was centered to stop the power run, much in the same way the spread works today. TO did about 25-30% option and another 10-15% Play Action Pass to stretch the D, but bread and butter was the IB power runs. PJ does this out of the Triple Option, the fullback becomes the power runner that keeps the defense honest and not cheating to the outside.
  5. 4 of 6 beat bowling teams we lost to. 3 Top 10 teams when we played them we lost to. 2 Top 5 team when we played them we lost to. 4 teams in BCS Top 25 we lost to. 4 of 6 teams with winning records we lost to. (Finishing 6-6 does not make you a worthy opponent) There is a trend here. Texas Bowl participant is fine but honestly are they really a good team? I guess they did beat Turner and Buffalo. 6-6 does not make you a worthy opponent when one or more of your wins is against lower tier programs. New Mexico St was, is terrible Va Tech not brought up in my first post because they are decent. And we lost to those 2 of the best 3 teams in the conference. I know there is nothing you can do about the conference teams but come on they stunk and we were lucky we played them. ISU, KSU, CU, Baylor, and A&M are the 5 worst teams in the conference of which we played 4 of 5. If you throw KU in there we played 5 of the bottom 6. This was huge for this team. With the new staff and a ton of inexperienced players not having to go on the road until game 6 was huge. Who knows what would have happened if our first road trip was before Tech. This is boosted by the good teams that we lost to. I’m sure the 41-55 record of the teams we beat didn’t help our ranking out in this poll. I still don’t know why people take my posts so seriously. Maybe I should learn how to use those little smileys. If you want to argue how NU faired against good opposition, then your rebuttal would be right on target. However you made a point of saying that NU's schedule was terrible this year. I clearly proved that was a wrong assertion by any stretch of the imagination. Having to play 6 bowl teams out of 12 total opponents is tough no matter how you cut it. Some of those teams are better than others, some are not. Are you saying that KU is a horrible team now because they are only 7th in the conference? I think if you put KU in most other conferences they have a shot to win them. Conference record inside the Big XII this year is quite misleading. I completely agree that as you point out NU finished 8-4 because of the tough schedule no doubt about it. That clearly shows that Bo has his work cut out for him. Getting the team to the point of winning 9 games or better in the regular season means that NU has to start winning against the top quality opponents. That is what I will measure Bo's success by in the coming 2-3 years. He already has the team playing harder and better. Now he has to continue on that.
  6. Are you really going to go down this road? Let us look at the schedule again shall we? 6 of the 12 opponents went bowling this year. NU played 3 teams, MU, TT, and OU, that were ranked in the top 10 when we played them, 2 were top five teams, MU and OU. 4 teams are still in the BCS top 25, OU (1), TT (7), VT (19), and MU (21). Incidently those 4 teams are also included in any other top 25 poll you can think of. 7 of the 12 teams played ended with a .500 record or better, and 6 of 12 teams had better than a .500 record. Out of the four non-conference games, only 1 of those was a true cupcake and that was New Mexico St. Here is a listing. Western Michigan 9-3 (Texas Bowl Participant) San Jose St. 6-6 New Mexico St. 3-9 Virginia Tech 9-4 (ACC CHAMPS, BCS Bowl Participant) In conference play, NU played 2 of the 3 BEST teams in the conference. True that NU plays in a mediocre Big XII North, and frankly there is nothing they can do about that. I am not sure that it matters anyway. The one part that I will give props to Pederson for is the number of games at home. NU played 8 home games this year, a definate advantage. If you want to look at strength of schedule in a more analytical nature, Sagarin's analysis has NU as having the 28th toughest schedule as of December 6th. That rating is a very in-depth mathematical look and accounts for such things as games played at home. Sure looks like a cupcake schedule to me.
  7. Eh, 5 catches for 26 yards probably won't get him more offers. If it does, I hope he's happy with his commitment to Nebraska and does not switch somewhere else. At this stage of the game, any other team is just way behind in establishing a personal relationship with him. Even though his stat line isn't very great, it obvious from the story he had a great game. Contributed on Special Teams as well as Offense. Will be nice to have a big body go get a fade route to the corner ala Purify. I know Holt is big, but I have yet to see him used like that.
  8. Apparently, the epic thread just got moved to a password-protected place... Incidentally, "coots and taters" seems to have been around a while, but I only ever regularly hear the terms on tigernet, and the south carolina fan board at rivals. That's cause one of our fans couldn't keep his posts clean. Pathetic. You should just PM one of the mods or admins for a password to the woodshed. It is quite a funny forum. You can participate in the EPIC thread and check some of our past spats, such as a former EPIC thread with a certain Kansas State fan. There are also a few threads with neked women in them.
  9. Ok this is chapping my hide. First a double post, so I edit the second to say as such, then after the edit the first post disappears? Anyway, AC was a good player last year. Since due to his legal problems he missed a lot of practice and playing time, he was a shell of himself this year. If he gets the Medical RS, then next year I think he will be a big contributer again.
  10. HANC, what town in SW IA? I grew up in Atlantic, wondered if I knew some that were going.
  11. I have a feeling that the look-a-like thread for the bowl game is going to be CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!
  12. ANYBODY but Bent Fussberger is great with me. The Oklahoma-Missouri game made me absolutely sick. I've never heard such a biased one-sided call in my life. Old Brent apparently forgets that at least half of his audience may be interested in what is happening when the other team has the ball. The only thing that is worse is when he calls a USC game. Then he sounds like a high school kid who is going to get lucky with the whole USC cheerleading squad if the Trojans win. :-) Just be glad it's CBS and not ABC/ESPN. You could always play the Brent Mussberger drinking game for a good time......
  13. ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!! Again, how many times do I have to put up with this? I mean I know we beat Navy like 7 out of 9 and 5 in a row when I was there and payback is a beotch, but come on now! Army needs to recruit a legitmate Option QB and quick.
  14. They have already done this from all accounts that I can find. All reports from the team about practices include comments about how physical they are. I think this is a large part of why we have seen the D-Line take off in performance this year. I completely agree with you that physical practices, i.e. practice like you play, leads to the best performances.
  15. Pretty sure it belongs in Board Feedback.
  16. '90 or '91 I think. No, Keith Jackson entered the NFL in like 86 or 87. The one I'm thinking about was for sure mid 80's. I remember that also, another 1 vs. 2 match up. Don't remember which year, but it was a home game so a look at the schedules around '85-88 would work. Didn't they have 3 white stripes on them also?
  17. Here is the link to the story: http://www.kansascity.com/159/story/919599.html My question is when will he learn? After he leaves MU, he isn't going to have being the Starting QB title to fall back on. Most likely he won't cut it in the NFL. He just seems beyond cocky to me. "Fat, dumb, and stupid is no way to go through life son." Ought to be careful... you're liable to be working for him soon. I assume by "you're" you are are referring to Chase going to work as a coach right? Because it would be just downright silly the other way around.
  18. Maybe this is a dumb question, but if he plays baseball doesn't he lose a year of eligibility? I thought that if you played any sport in a year, you lost that year of eligibility, whether you were on scholarship for that sport or not. Actually it is a great question. I didnt think of that. I took the time to read on wikipedia about redshirts. here is the link for it. i didnt see anything that said if he played another sport it would take that year away. help solve this if ya can That would have hurt Erstad if that were the case.
  19. Take a closer look at those numbers, the ranking is based upon points per game. Henery adn Bailey have the best kicking % of the 4 listed, and only missed 3 kicks total. Henery also has the longest make of the four this year. Not to mention of Henery's 3 misses, 2 were from over 50 yards. I think Henery should be at least 2nd team, I am not opposed to Wolfert being the 1st teamer.
  20. Was looking at the MU Tigerboard to get their take on the OC leaving and ran into a post about a comment Chase Daniel made about his now "former" OC that ran in a Kansas City Star article. Check it out. Here is the link to the story: http://www.kansascity.com/159/story/919599.html My question is when will he learn? After he leaves MU, he isn't going to have being the Starting QB title to fall back on. Most likely he won't cut it in the NFL. He just seems beyond cocky to me. "Fat, dumb, and stupid is no way to go through life son."
  21. Gets him out of the Big XII South.
  22. I said this in a few other threads, I think that the next 2-3 years will tell us exactly how good Pinkel is as a coach overall. You have to give him credit for raising the overall level of recruiting there and was smart enough to change offensive schemes. The true test of a program's top tier status is the ability to reload. NU did that, OU does that, UT does that, etc. I am not sure next year will be a great year for them, but the key will be the next two years after that. If Mizzou can't get back to the top in 2-3 years, then I think everyone's prediction of their demise is accurate. ------Edit-------- Also want to add that as a part of the year after next or the following year being more important in telling us how strong Mizzou's program is, I don't think anyone can look at a bad year for Mizzou next year as an indication. Now if they continue to win next year, then obviously we can tell Mizzou's program is better than expected a bit earlier than I am predicting.
  23. Not to mention he was Officially hired now, Interim tag is off.
  24. Send in the closer. I wonder what a fake NU Giles tatoo would look like????
  25. Haven't heard a lot about this one yet. Anyone have any feedback on Bennie, his listed measurables look good.
