  1. NU's strength is definately on offense. We have a Senior QB, Joe Ganz, who many would argue is in the top 5 all time for NU. We have good depth at RB/IB and a real talent in a young one named Helu. Helu has that ability to make defenders miss, he is really fun to watch. The receivers are pretty good also, Swift is the number one target and has a good shot to play on Sundays IMHO. The offense is a balanced Spread attack, will throw a lot but run a lot of zone read as well. The Defense is the weak link on the team. The D-line is experienced and tough, easily the strong part of the Defense and maybe the team for that matter. Suh at DT is a special player, he is 300lbs but has been lined up at FB at times this year. Really athletic. The back 7 of the Defense is the problem. They have greatly improved this year under Bo Pelini and Co's tutelage, but still seem to give up 1-3 big plays a game. A lot of injuries this year means also that the D has a lot of inexperience in the back 7. The offense holds the ball for around 40 minutes a game so that helps the D a lot. Overall this could be a fun one!
  2. so with that handle are you a NU fan or h8ter? That would be like me asking you which caveman you are in the beginning of history of the world part one and to answer your question, there is no place like Nebraska Not trying to doubt you, it is just that in my background being 8/eight up is not a good thing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: for a reference to what I am talking about, Eight Up > Military slang for one who is due for dismissal through a Section 8 proceeding; crazy, mentally unfit, disturbed, disorganized, psychologically disturbed, a psychopath. Also called 11 up and 3 down.

  4. Wow. Nice input. Want to brag that you're more of a man because you got pubes when you were 11 and everyone else did when they were 13? And I'd be interested to know if you could give us the specific breakdown of what 80% of the rule book you knew and what 20% was still fuzzy for you when you were in Kindergarten. That'd be great.
  5. Maybe you could explain why it is bad to have high expectations? What is the point of goal setting if you don't set something that is tough to attain? Setting the bar low just leads to no progress.. if there is nothing tough in reaching the goals that are set there is no pride in reaching them. I have a feeling that Bo may tell you the same thing... I'm not saying we shouldn't set the bar high - Osborne laid it on the line when he fired Callahan. He said losing seasons are unacceptable. Bo has said that he wants to put a quality product on the field. He also said that his goal is to have the guys on the field live up to their potential. My beef isn't with people who expect the team to win games, because they should. But, I think Bo as well as TO would say that all they can ask is for their guys to go out on the field and give their 100% effort. Any fan who EXPECTS a National Championship is delusional. Put that shoe on the other foot - any coach who said they guarantee a National Championship or a Big XII championship would be executed in the media. All they can ask for is the guys to give their all, and to always be improving, and the score will take care of itself. Bo absolutely should shoot for as many wins as he can garner, and should expect a high level of effort, but if success is measured in 10 wins per season or a Big XII championship by year 2, then we're setting ourselves up for failure, and I would think that managing expectations and over-delivering is a better position than the contrary (like Callahan year 4 - expecting Big XII championship and ending up in a losing season). If you don't think that the really good teams don't put NC on their "Goals" board at the beginning of the season then you are nuts. TO's teams did that a lot in the 90's, goals included Big VIII/XII title and NC. I guarantee you that Big XII title was on the goals list this year and in a few years Bo will have the other on their as well.
  6. Great story, I live in NY now and I have a 11 month old boy and a 3 yo daughter. I hope that in a few years I am lucky enough to get to experience something similar like you did. You are right, those moments make everything else pale by comparison.
  7. Pretty sure Pitt beat Iowa this year
  8. YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! As a former Tank Rat, this one warms my heart!
  9. I think I high fived everyone in the bar, almost knocked over the table I was sitting at, and maybe even hugged a few people (including my Bro-in-law who is a ND fan and I think was in a state of shock at the euphoria in the Bar). I may have even almost knocked zE bOp over, , though I can't recollect. I am not sure what happened after that, I went into happiness shock I think. Thanks for the tip on how fun the NYC watch bar is zE bOp, great time had by all!
  10. BC might be the toughest out of that group. They are going to the ACC title game and have one of the nastiest D's in the country. Their interior D-lineman are really, really good. Hey cavedude! ^5 brotha! Yeah, BC's D is good, but they aren't that fast, not like FSU. I think we could spread 'em out pretty good. Plus, their O is prolly more manageable. There is something to be said for that for sure. NU runs the zone read alot, makes those DT's spread out and creates angles. FSU's speed could negate some of that, though as GT showed vs. UGA the option, which the zone read is a form of, also can work to negate that. The difference I guess is which set of DB's would you rather face? I am not very impressed with either offense a lot, though FSU seems to be able to run it better. The Ponder kid from FSU is inconsistent. I think both teams would be a tough one to handle, but I think NU has a good shot to beat either.
  11. Which was supposedly what the Big XII told Bo also pre-game. Kicker moved early and was out of the Kicker's box, position, whatever making the holder now just the same as a QB with his knee on the ground.
  12. Well, we can't have our cake and eat it too. The play worked vs KU and technically Wesch shoulda been called down on that one too. I was at the KU game so I don't know what they said during the game, but I thought in the post-game they said that his knee was up off of the ground in time. K, well that's different. I'm pretty certain Henery was out of his kicker's box though, he nearly had to dive to catch that thing. You are right he was outside the box and it should have been called in the CU game, but oh well I guess it kind of just blends in to the rest of the season. All I can say is that at least we won it was kind of ugly which a lot of th CU vs. NU games are but we did get the win!! GBR Bo did still have his coaches challenge after the Fage FG debacle. I know it was his play, but I wonder if he thought about questioning it? Supposedly he was told by Big XII after KU game that if he ran that play again, they would call the holder down. If Bo knew that, I wonder........
  13. Thanks for pointing that out to me I really don't know my way around the board. Hmmmm, that is exactly why it is humorous. I think I will start a thread entitled, "Over/under on how many 'Why don't the fans treat Bo the same as Cally?' threads Newearth starts between now and the bowl game. Seriously, c'mon now.
  14. EDIT: As of today, we moved up to #33...for what it's worth. 25th on Scout today, also for what it's worth......

  16. So should TT not get one because they got blown out by OU? Mizzou gets their prize, they get to attend the Championship game. NU and MU finished at a tie, MU goes because of a TIEBREAKER.
  17. I am not sure, but I think part of the criticism for Cally was because he reduced the number of walk ons the participation by In-State kids was reduced. The only way to make up part of the difference would be to offer more in-state kids a scholly. I think they should only offer who they feel is good enough to play, and in this sense Cally caught a bad break, but there is something to be said for the connection of the state to the team. Over the years under TO, there were several in-staters to make contribution, but I think the walk on program did more to contribute to this than anything else. I know that most of the starters were scholarship players, but the WO program pushed those guys to another level and also allowed TO to find diamonds in the ruff. I think that a re-newed emphasis on the WO program is helping Bo in much the same manner. Just look at how important the WO program was this year. 5 starters on D were walk on's, overall over half a dozen starters on both sides of the ball are/were walk ons. Holt, Wortman, Peterson, O'hanlon, etc., you read all the time in newspapers about how their communities are proud again. Communities see that their kids are contributing again, hence less cries to give more schollys to in-state kids. Bo has stated that the best players will play no matter what their background is and has walked the walk. Everyone sees this and appreciates this. This will allow Bo to recruit as he sees fit, yet still maintain that connection with the populace; for as long as Bo stays true to his word about giving everyone a shot, there will always be walk on's that make good or bring the level of competition for playing time up several notches.
  18. I wavered between slightly and vastly exceeding my expectations. I thought 8-4 was a possibility at the beginning of the year. What impressed me though was how they did it. It just seemed like every week a new player had to step up and play at LB or DB, this all the while keeping some really good talent redshirted. I have no idea how they pulled this off, when you think about this I think this speaks more about this staff than anything else. They can develop players, no doubt about it. The other thing I was looking for was recruiting, while the jury is still out this year I am feeling pretty good here also. Not blowing me away by any means, but if you look at what they have done, there are some really good players now commited, and who may commit by FEB, I am starting to feel really good about the direction of this program. I think the one thing a lot of people were questioning about Bo was could he recruit or get a staff that could recruit, I think he is answering that very well.
  19. orly? NU/CU Total yard 291/407 Penalties 2-14/3-15 Turnovers 4/2 Possession 20:24/39:36 Yes, we got lucky at the end. But we won this game in almost all areas except for just a couple blown calls. Saying we lost to them in every way is just being completely pessimistic. I agree we won the game in every way except in the bonehead plays department LOL. CU sucks this year and we played flat footed they took advantage, end of story, oh yeah and we won. GBR Trouble, I think you have the NU/CU backwards (CU stats on left?), but I completely agree. After the first 5 minutes, CU had roughly 155 yards on BLOWN assignments. Take those out and CU had only 136 offensive yards in 55 minutes of football. The D forced 4 turnovers. What killed NU was boneheaded plays, calls (fake fg), and lack of execution in the redzone. Henery had 4 fgs, he shouldn't have had to make more than one. NU just couldn't put the ball in the endzone. Have to give CU a lot of credit for hanging on, a really gritty performance from a team that needed one, but this game should not have been that close. It was though, and I for one enjoyed the ride.
  20. The board has an automatic cuss word filter. Changes letters automatically.
  21. Tis the season of thanks, this is for ZeBop, Honestly ZeBop, I do enjoy going back and fourth with you over NU and KU football. I will say this: NU does have a decent chance of winning the North next year. But you can't deny the fact that KU returns the most from our north teams, and should be favored to win it. I'm man enough to say my emotions may have gotten carried away with my last comment. But you have been rubbing the Husker victory in very hard. I, of course, have to retaliate. And on the flip side, I probably would have did some chest pounding myself if we would of won. So I do understand. Hope you had a happy thanksgiving. I just got back from the Black Friday sales and I'm exhausted. I hope your Huskers beat CU and I hope the trash talk keeps coming. In all honesty, responding to your posts have been fun. Keep them coming. Tomorrow my Hawks play MU (the team I hate worse than Satan). We're 14 point dogs, but with luck, maybe god will shine his grace upon the Jayhawks for one damn day and give us a much needed win over Satans team. Good luck on the rest of the year. JGS30 Good Luck JGS30, I would definately like to see a win by KU.
  22. Keystone light really? Why not just break out the beast while your at it. For some reason I could never stomach that one.
  23. I have listened to that song about 10 times now, and I don't think it is too bad. Anyone else digging it or is it the major flop the "experts" say it is?
  24. He hurt his shoulder, clavacle?, and had surgery about 2 weeks ago. He is out for the rest of the year.
