  1. I guess that puts you into the minority. I bet you are also in support of the CU fans when they threw yellow shirts on the field to similate penalties vs. NU.
  2. bump You know sometimes when I post it is like my browser times out and the post doesn't get recorded as a post, but still shows up in the thread. Wierd.
  3. I can almost understand them wanting to show the missed face-mask call..just like them to want to "Twist the Knife". Judging by the KSU board I read for a couple of days last season, I'm surprised they didn't re-create the footage of Brook's plane going down...They had several photoshopped entries in at least two threads. Link to the Ugliness More Ugliness (If link doesn't take you there..Search "Berringer") Wow, wow, wow is all I have to say. Didn't know human beings could stoop so low.
  4. I think their play has gotten markedly better over the past few weeks. I think next year they will be soooo much better than this year. Practicing through a bowl game will definately help. The other factor is that Bo has a lot of talented individuals redshirting this year that will push the current starters for playing time. I also think that as the D-Line goes, so goes the back 7. The improvement up front has to be a large factor in the D's improved play lately and I think the D-line will be even better next year. Turner, Suh, and Allen are great players and they have several good players to step into the other DT spot.
  5. Come on now, you can't be using a national population statistic to talk about this issue. Look up the percentage of CFB players that are minorities, heck you don't even have to do that just take a look at the NU roster. If a lot of coaches are former players, why are only 4 of them black? Are you going to sit here and tell me that all of the black players are not smart enough to be head coaches. That must be everyone's reasoning here because all I read on this string was how all institutions should have to worry about is bringing in the "best" candidates. If they are doing such a good job, then it must be true that black people cannot coach. Tell me that isn't racism.
  6. If you don’t think there is a hiring problem then you are crazy. Come on man there are only 4 minority Head Coaches out of 119 schools or 3% that is terrible. You rambled off all of these minority coaches that failed, just think of all the white guys that have failed and still get recycled through the ranks. Charlie Weis has failed at ND just as bad as Willingham did while he was there yet he is still safe. How does that work? Sure in a perfect world places would hire coaches off of merit but this is far from a perfect world and until things change this will always be brought up. I don’t think people are up in arms that Willingham and Prince were fired, because they did deserve it, they are up in arms because of the low percentage of minority Head Coaches. Racism is a problem even if it doesn’t affect you personally. It is easy for us on the sidelines to say that it isn’t an issue, but look at the stats it shows that it is a glaring one. For what it is worth I hope Norvell and Gilmore both get jobs as Head Coaches and I hope Turner keeps moving up in the ranks and it isn’t because they are minority coaches, it is because they deserve it. For the record both Art Shell (56-52) and Dennis Green (113-94) have career winning records in the NFL. Shells teams made the playoffs 3 of his 7 years and Greens teams made it 8 out of 13 years. I just figured I would point those things out since you said they both stunk as coaches. Well spoken sir. There is a reason why things like Affirmative action and Rooney are put into place. Its because us white folk are content to sit around and let things stay the same and pretend like nothing is wrong. Inequalities only get changed because someone speaks up. Someone refuses to sit in the back of the bus. If they didn't do that most of us would just pretend everything was fine- maybe we'd even think it was. I grew up in NE and my town had a large hispanic population and they were viewed as 2nd class citizens. The only black people we had were adopted by white families or played Basketball at the community college. Interesting stereo-types we were comfortable with. Know what it was called when we rang the doorbell and ran away? No one was burning crosses or holding clan meetings. We all just had this "Everything is OK for us so it must be OK" thing going on. I love it when members of the majority, living in a country designed to afford them every privilege start whining about reverse racism. Boo Hooo!! I will admit that I have no idea what it is like to grow up a person of color in this country but I bet it wasn't the same as my experience. Also, the artcile did not say that Willingham or Prince should keep their jobs. It just stated that by losing their jobs the numbers got worse. As for the "Why aren't there more asian coaches, etc...." Easy answer. Look at the demographics of the athletes. I'm sure you could've figured that out though. If you've ever said the words "I'm not racist but......" You are in fact a racist. If you have used the word "Halfrican" when referring to our new president (a word I've seen in the political forums on other husker boards) you are a bigot. If you think this coaching issue is not really an issue, you are living in a fantasy. Thank you Sir, you said exactly what I was thinking and stated it very eloquently.
  7. Also has a tie to the Big East, but I don't think any teams from that conference are in consideration this year.
  8. I don't disagree with you on the point that there is something special about the fan base of NU. I will have to disagree with you somewhat on the pro team statement though. I grew up out there in SW Iowa, just an hour East of Omaha, and I remember the emphasis being much heavier on the college sports. I now live in the NY/NJ area and there are 9 professional sports teams within an hour diameter: 2 Pro Football, 2 Baseball, 2 Basketball, and 3 Hockey teams. The emphasis out here is absolutely on the Pro teams. There are good college teams within striking distance, Penn State, Rutgers, and Syracuse for starters (ok maybe not Syracuse lately, but they have been a primier program for most of their history). I think it is because of the over saturation of pro teams that this area is so focused on them. People only have so much time and money to devote to the following of their teams. I understand the Chiefs and Royals are right down the road, but it isn't the same. I think if you look at it in this light, you have to agree the lack of pro teams helps contribute to the dynamic somewhat. I mean seriously, all you see out in NE and most of Western IA are NU plates, bumper stickers, paraphernalia. You know I miss all of that........ Totally correct! In MA, it's the BoSox, Pats, Celtics and Bruins. On the western front you rub up against Yankmee, Mets, Giants, Jets, and Knicks fans all over the place. TMA peeps don't even know that BC has a football team, except if you are right in Boston. They all know something about Big Red fb though, that is, they have at least heard about the team and know that it's a program of greatness. I can see why it's all pro out here though, if I had grown up around here I would be the same way.... p.s. 2 caveman: go to the Irish Rogue in NYC 4 GBR games, thru the NSNY Society. I been going, it's a blast, right near Times Square. Will be there for the Puff game. Muchos fines babes there too! I have been definately thinking about doing that. It is tough some times with two little ones to get some time to do it. For this game though, I think I will definately get a house pass!!
  9. That always gets me when schools like Florida and USC recruit nationwide after picking whoever they want in their own respective states. Like that isn't enough? At least Texas stays in state somewhat. I forget which network was running it, but there was story making the point that USC's ridiculously good recruiting is killing it in the BCS rankings because they are stock-piling guys that might have been starters at schools like Washington or Arizona. The end result is the Pac 10 is terrible and even a win against one of those crummy teams drops USC's BCS rating. Interesting theory, anyway. I don't remember if it was on ESPN or not, but they were talking about the effect Lane Kiffin had on recruiting at USC. Pete Carrol used to be like Mack Brown and be content with what he could pull within CA and the immediate area. Lane was the one who pushed Pete to save a handful of slots for the best players available nationwide.
  10. And most of those have trouble keeping a solid fan base. UM had vast sections of their stadium empty on TV the other night vs. VT. Pitt is notoriously bad with fan support. I am not sure about UCLA and UW. Big city environments just don't have the same fan base for collegiate teams.
  11. You do realize, of course, that the only reason Missouri exists is to keep residents of Arkansas from escaping don't you.... Looks like Iowa doesn't like MO more than NE doesn't like MO! That reminds me....If they were to remove the bottom two rows of counties from IA and add them to MO, you double the IQ of both states!!!!! Had to get that one in as a former resident of the "third" row of counties in IA!!

I mean seriously, all you see out in NE and most of Western IA are NU plates, bumper stickers, paraphernalia. You know I miss all of that........ I guess I should have specified on this... clearly its different in NY, LA places like that.... but most of the time when we are compared to other college programs they arent HUGE cities like that. really aside from USC what decent college team is in a huge city? normally the fans that are saying this to us are fans of other big 12, sec, big 10 type schools.... Well in that case I completely agree with you, it is like the pot calling the kettle black. Honestly the overwhelming majority of these teams are in a similar dynamic as NU, a few pro teams within driving distance but the college team is the priority, obviously not to the same extent as the Big Red. I am having a hard time thinking of any teams in the Big XII that are different. The Big X, little 11 is not any better.

  14. Remember that point earlier in the season when we were sitting on like 8-9 recruits and nothing seemed to be happening, I was getting anxious as heck. Then we got like 3-4 recruits in less than 2 weeks and a few after that. Now I am starting to get anxious again. A lot of guys whom many figured were locks for NU are not committing and I am starting to get that anxious feeling again. This recruiting class is very important for Bo.
  15. That would be nice, though I think he redshirts no matter what. Being able to practice will ensure he is developed enough to contribute the next year.
  16. Wait, did I just read that?!?!!! This coming from the guy who pulls out quotes of BRI for our viewing pleasure....I think BRI needs to start a thread.
  17. Actually I wish they would take the Unit Patches off. It is like putting the cart before the horse, they haven't even gone through Post night yet. Even if they get the post they want, there is no guarantee they get the unit they want. I like the unit patch, if for no other reason than the 1st. Cav. patch looks good on any uniform. IDK, I guess because I was in an actual CAV unit I am not too high on that one. It is one of the better ones I will give you that, but I like 2ID or 101st better.
  18. WRONG! CAPS REQUIRED! BEST CATCH EVER! No kidding!!! I almost dropped my beer when I saw that!
  19. There is something to the name cache a degree brings in the business world, at least from my experience. It helps open doors. Name cache cannot and will not do more than that, the person is responsible for what he/she does with an opportunity.
  20. Or maybe it was to get away from Callahan. I don't know, aren't those two very close friends?
  21. who's Crabtree? I think, no I hope, you forgot this...
  22. His a#$ will be toasty for X-Mas!
