  1. That’s a huge reason why our secondary couldn’t guard anything. When the scheme requires the DLine to eat blocks and play contain but does not have them rush the passer AND linebackers are hardly ever called to blitz, the secondary will struggle!! Diaco’s scheme was so strange. Initially I thought the first game was bad because Diaco didn’t want to show too much for future opponents. Then I realized he wasnt going to send anyone all season! 90% of the defensive play calls were DLine playing contain while everyone else would drop back in to soft coverage. CBs couldn’t play tight, aggressive coverage because the QB had all day to throw against our contain scheme. Our CBs have a lot of improving to do but Diaco’s scheme made them all look 5 times worse than they were. The secondary will look like a completely different unit next yr, especially with the incoming talent!
  2. Easily two of their best contributions to the program #1 Friday Night Lights #2 Let me clear my throat
  3. Or it would turn that game in to a real rivalry! Give us 2yrs and we will rule the B1G West.
  4. Hopefully POB follows these message board posts. Everyone’s doubting that he’s athletic enough to run this offense. Should be a major motivator
  5. I honestly think that last years, old school, west coast offense was a major reason Tyjon didn’t really shine. He’s built to excel in the spread. Tyjon, Stanley, and JD are going to shock the nation next season. Can’t wait to see these guys play in a modern football scheme!
  6. None of you are looking at his situation correctly. There 4 main reasons for staying or going. #1 College experience/degree: We all remember college. It was a blast for most. Especially for star football players and I t only last so long #2 Unfinished business on the field: Any one looking to go early to the NFL not only is talented but believes in them self. He won 4 games as a junior. Everything is setting up in his favor with Frost coming to town. He can go out a winner and shatter every record #3 Leaving for the NFL this season: He would have landed on a team and made some good money. Hopefully ending in a great career #4 Waiting and leaving for the NFL next year: Can finish his last yr of his degree and enjoy his college experience. Good chance we win more than 4 games. He can greatly improve his draft stock and really set himself up for life I think he made a good call coming back. He’s gonna leave Lincoln a winner and I’m betting he’s gonna earn a lot of money after working with Frost
  7. Who would we be stealing these elite, experienced, coaches from?? Most programs are recycling talent which we just did with Riley’s staff. Nebraska’s previous success has come from building from the ground up. Devaney started at Wyoming (non-P5) and Tom started at NU as an assistant. Their assistants had the same story. Nebraska was built from the ground up the first time around. I like that Frost will be giving it another go!
  8. I did a little research and it turns out that way back when, the Huskers were known as the Old Gold Knights. Fitting with Frost coaching his last game for the UCF Knights and returning to his old team. Could have made for a cool marketing campaign. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1891_Nebraska_Old_Gold_Knights_football_team
  9. We have a lot of talent at QB. Lee, POB, and Gebbia can all throw. If Darlington can take a hit, he'll have to be considered. The underdog would be Andrew Bunch. Check out his highlight tape. He might be the perfect fit! Andrew Bunch, dual threat tape https://www.hudl.com/video/3/1677123/5721e72d0dcb0d12f889b622
  10. Key Sr is an NFL analyst so I’m not sure how closely he follows the college game or the Frost offense prior til now. He played with Frost at the Jets so he clearly knows him and remembers the option offense he ran back in the day at NU. If he hadn’t paid attention until now I’m sure he realizes this is a very WR friendly triple option. Turns out Key Jr really lucked out. Spent an entire year getting in good shape and may get 4 years in a wide open offense that keeps defenders guessing.
  11. It seems like we haven’t had any real big plays the entire season. Doesn’t even feel like we are a threat for big plays. Am I wrong?
  12. I know this season has been rough and Tanner has had a lot of rough times but he has also shown the ability to make some tough throws. Where does Tanner’s passing ability rate on the all time NU list?
  13. The RB got hit by every single defender because they know Tanner NEVER runs the ball. They completely ignored TLee and hit the RB for no gain.
  14. So the rest of the football world at all levels is evolving to make the QB position more simple? High school and colleges are running simple, spread principles, designed to make reads quick and easy and get WR's in space. Instead of keeping up with the times, B1G teams are running old school, more complexed schemes, that require NFL minds at QB. Sounds great for producing NFL QB's but the B1G West offenses will continue to suffer if we don't catch up with the times.
  15. I’d rather have a coach and a team not give up on a season after starting 3-4. You have to have buy in and confidence from everybody to have any success. Diaco’s passive, send 3 and drop 8 has been terrible to watch but he is promising us he’s going to do everything he can to fix issues. This should be what we want to hear. A commitment to being great, a belief that we can get more out of what we have now! Don’t knock the man for not giving up. He made a bold statement and said the standard is excellence. We may be a long ways from it but we will find a way!
  16. The pro style offense is a thing of the pass. We need to catch up with the times. The Frost "finesse" offense is about creating the best match ups and getting skill players in space. That's always a good thing. Also I'm sure there are others who wonder if this spread offense can work in the B1G, nothin is a given but Ohio St just beat the breaks off the blackshirts while running their version of the spread last week. We can't afford to over think this one. If Riley leaves, we HAVE to go after Frost!!!!
  17. If Frost ends up at Florida, Tennessee, LSU, or where ever while Nebraska waits for him to get "more experience" it will be a decision we never bounce back from. I have a feeling we get this wrong, hire another seasoned coach with mediocre results, and it's the end of the Big Red
  18. Anyone watching the KC Chiefs game. Imagine if we ran that style of offense with Spielman, Tyjon, DPE, and Stanley! All quick wide receivers and JD, Tyjon, and DPE could also play the scat back role. Can only imagine!
  19. And I like my WRs who can catch with just a touch of elusiveness. I also prefer RBs with power but just a hint of speed. Just enough speed to pick up a first down in certain situations. Hopefully you catch the sarcasm
  20. Of course you don't want your QB to be the the only reliable running threat. Ideally your RBs are really good too. It still helps big time if you have a Jalen Hurts, Deshaun Watson, Marcus Mariota, JT Barrett/Cardale Jones, Cam Newton. etc. Why would you want A QB who is "just a good enough runner" if you can have a dynamic passer AND runner?
  21. Actually Bama runs quite a bit of spread/zone read. Jalen Hurts was just shy of 1,000 yards rushing last season. He's almost at 600 yards this season. The rest of college football gets it. A complete QB is one that can throw AND run. We will never win anything of significance with a slow QB and an old school, pro style offense
  22. I've been saying the same thing. I don't think we've seen a toss or an outside run this season! We almost always line up under center in a bunch formation and hand it off up the middle. It's okay to be predictable if the other team has no way to stop you. Our OLine doesn't give us that luxury.
  23. By Riley having his guys, is everyone not just referring to Tommy Armstrong being gone and replacing him with a pocket passer? Is there any other position "Riley's guys" references?
  24. We've heard since this staff took over that we need to be patient and wait until Riley gets his guys. Everyone pointed to this year as the year he'd finally have his guys. Guys that fit his system. My question is who are these guys that everyone is referring to? Does Riley still not have players that fit what he really wants to do? If he doesn't have his guys yet, when he does get them, can we expect to be back to 9-4 or 10-4 again each season? (I looked at the Northern Illinois recruiting rankings and hoped to go back over the past 5 years to see how we'd compare. NIU is so lowly that Rivals.com just started covering their team this year. Of the 19 committed recruits they currently have, only 4 of them are 3 stars. The rest are 2 star or lower.)
  25. Pro style is the name of the scheme! Pro stlye, west coast, spread offense, spread/air raid, etc. This topic isn't about stlyle or flash. That should be obvious. Regardless, this thread isn't about style, it's about scheme. Can we win with a pro style scheme?
