  1. A post like this is truly to display one's own "superior grip on reality." In comparing yourself to those people you displayed your own better than thou attitude. Sucks when we become what we hate doesn't it? You spot it, you got it!
  2. Hate to do this guys, and I hope it isn't true but, we could be a better team and lose more games. Here is the worst case scenario: Fl Atl- W Ark St- W Va Tech - L too many new players at key positions and we're on the road LA- Laf- W Mizzou- L They graduated some key peiple but so did we. Its on the road. T Tech- L They will scores a million points every year Leach is the coach. Arrrrggghh Matey!!! ISU- W Baylor- hmm.... W- I think they might be OK but I can't ever say we'll lose to Baylor OU- L- nothing to see here folks, move along. KU- L- the north is theirs to lose. On the road. KSU- W CU- We may be 5-5 going into this game and it is a battle for bowl eligibility. CU took a step back bc/ the o-line was wrecked by injuries/ suspensions. They always play us tough and its in Boulder. Could be interesting......... Do I really think we will lose all of those games? No, but 4 of those teams beat us this year. 2 others we play in their house. I've been guilty of drinking the kool-aid in the past. Maybe I need a little now.
  3. Odd, I didn't see a single one of our guys get crucified in this thread, nor pitchforks and torches. Andy and Hunter are poor with or without this party. Much lamer than Michael Phelps. If this wouldn't have gotten national press would NE players be there? Yep!! If I was in college I'd probably be there. Football players aren't heroic. College kids do dumb things. If the article was about CU, or OU, or Texas we'd be having a field day.
  4. from me too! Also, Green will not be starting or even playing next year. Red Shirt.
  5. I check the recruiting thread 3-4 times/ day and I wanted to thank Ohio Pete for all of the time you've spent updating, posting commitments, etc. It had to take a lot of your time (which makes me wonder why you have so much time? ) I think hskrinokc did much work here as well........ and I do appreciate the insiders like Big Willie who help eliminate specualtion even when you sometimes get attacked for doing so. Thanks guys. I en joy watching the recruiting race and you made husker board a place I can go to be informed!
  6. My favorite is the one that ends....."and the tight end was out of bounds!"
  7. According to some posts, the 18 hours would be summer school. I don't think he just needs 18 to finish but I'm getting that info from this board alone.
  8. I think the thing that is being missed here is can Myles do it? If he had to go the JUCO rout to start with and if he is still short 18 credits (which is a lot) Does he really have the study skills and discipline to pull this off?
  9. Yep, if Norman is the talent people say he is AND if he has the academics to qualify he won't be SOL. Some school with lower standards will take him. I do think the Bodtman thing is a bit sad. I feel for the kid, but I only know what we've been told.
  10. I believe in this staff's ability to evaluate talent and even more in their ability to develop that talent. I'm cool with this class. I do think we get 1 or 2 more but if not we can use the scholly's next year.
  11. C.Y.A. CYA, what does that mean? Why cover your a$$ with a guy you no longer covet? I think they mean CYA as far as trying to maintain a decent rep in that recruiting area. Burning a kid can close doors you want open in the future. Yessir
  12. Rickey Thenarse was also "almost for sure" not going to qualify and here he is about to start his senior year. Will he actually earn a degree though? Does anyone really care anymore? Let's face it, for all the academic all-americans that have come through, there's been just as many duds. And many who graduated, weren't exactly Einsteins! cough.....Jamal......cough....cough.....Lord I just hope they don't have to pull a lot of strings to get Byrd in. With all the tutoring NU supplies, once he's enrolled he should have a good chance to graduate. I care but I'm a college professor. I understand if others don't. I don't expect every athlete to graduate but I think the lowering of standards for stud athletes is a low intergrity move. I also think it is exploitive- to bring in students you know aren't going to go pro or graduate but use them to sell tickets, merch, etc. What happens when their eligibility expires? They are discarded. so it's better to leave them with no chance of getting a degree? They had no chance of getting a degree when they came in. They knew it, the coaches knew it, the school knew it, the fans knew it. They just had to go to enough classes to maintain the GPA to stay eligible. Do you not think that is happening? I started some threads a month ago where I listed each recruiting class strating in 2004 and how they ended up. Behind a number of players I put the word "graduated" and someone on this thread pointed out that a number of these people did not graduate. They used up their eligibility. Here is what I wonder- how could you go to school for 4 years, and maintain the GPA to stay eligible to participate in sports, yet not have the right classes to complete a degree? Even more baffling if they were here for 5 years. Did they just take whatever BS core and electives they could to stay eligible? Is that what their academic advisor suggested? or the athletic dept? If so then are they really being given a chance at a degree or just enrolled in classes to play sports. You could argue that it is mutual exploitation- both sides agree to it. Yep, except 1 side is full of adults in a position of authority and the other is an 18 year old kid. I'm not saying NE is a dirty school. It appears we do it less than Texas or OU, and probably a handful of others. Call me a purist but lets try to keep the COLLEGE is College football.
  13. I didnt have the greatest grades in Highschool but I got a full ride to play baseball at a smaller college. I had to work at the college level nothing is given to these kids but the chance ,you have to that and make the most of it. You can not fault the school for taking people that will have to work harder then someone else in school. I really never had a chance at going Pro but I did get a FREE education out of it and I do not fee I was Exploited in any way. If you can not graduate in 4 years and need a 5th then I guess you suck it up and pay for it your self. I would take one year of student loans rather then 4 or 5 years of them. You are not really who I am talking about. Your grades might have not been the best but you qualified right? Without dcotoring of your numbers? There are a number of athletes who get into college who really have no chance of getting a degree. Everybody knows it but they act like they don't. That, to me, is exploitive. I don't want to lessen your college baseball experience but I do think that D1 football generates more revenue. In that regard I do think some players, who never had a shot to graduate, are being exploited. Or maybe that is the wrong word- I think that the idea that SOME of these kids are going to college in the real sense of the word is delusional.

  16. Yes, I hate ND. Why? Because I worship satan and hate catholics....... OK, that's not really it but I don't buy the hype- religious or otherwise around that BS school and football program. BTW cacti- didn't I see that Spiller is coming back?
  17. Just checkin in to make sure that debate with the posts too long to read is still going...........yep. I too think Blake Lawrence should get a shot. He has good endurance and fast-twitch muscle strength and can dunk a ball and run fast and far and throw a baseball really hard and jump higher. At least thats how my 3 year old daughter would say it.
  18. hmmm.......so........ Larry Bird, Roger Clemens, Mugsy Bogues, and Grag Maddux are training like mad for our starting LB positions next year?
  19. We just moved from 25 to 23 on rivals but have no new recruits. I take it this is bc/ they did a talent re-eval? I know, the stars don't matter but it still is fun to watch.
  20. If Ganz would've started last year, over Keller (which I think should've happened) we might have won more games and.......still have Callahan as our coach.
  21. So does he count as last year's class or this year's class? Will he show up on the service pages for us star gazers?
  22. That made me laugh out loud.
