  1. Correct. It’s actually not even industrial tech anymore. We got real uptown and go by Skilled and Technical Sciences!
  2. Thankfully, Industrial tech. Or maybe I’m just awesome!
  3. At trade schools the kids can make a direct connection to the math and reading to the projects they're doing. Kids taking 8th grade math learning about slope intercepts aren't actually applying it to anything outside of a story problem. Sucker punching another student or possessing marijuana isn't really a grey area, it's a crime.
  4. As a teacher, I think the #1 thing that needs to be done to improve schools is to get rid of all the knuckle heads. Politicians keep talking about mental health; well...time to pony up and do something. Send kids to alternative schools and counseling centers when needed. Open career centers and stop jamming math, reading, and writing down everyone's throats beyond 7th grade. Let the kids that "don't care" go learn a trade or pickup some type of work/life skills. Schools should start pressing charges when fights or assaults or illegal possessions happen instead of suspensions. It's crazy how low the standard has fallen for student behavior. Get rid of behavior problems, and schools would improve in a hurry!
  5. I also like his list, almost all of it. Not a fan of school choice though... Anyways...Most things on the list aren't going to happen with either party in charge. But I at least think some have a greater chance of happening with "responsible" Dems in office. Marriage is a no brainer. Properly funded boarder and legal system would be a no-brainer. Spending is a problem for both, it's just a matter of where the money goes. "Reasonable" Dems seem like the only folks willing to compromise on reasonable abortion laws.
  6. Until ranked choice happens (it won't...), holding our noses and voting for the better of two unideal choices is probably our new normal. God sure did bless this place...
  7. Ames smells like pig vaccinations and rotten corn. It literally stinks!
  8. If we wanted to make corruption a requirement for paying the bills, this is how you do it.
  9. I wouldn't call those small towns either, I was probably being generous with my qualifications of school classifications. I think of small towns as less than 2-3 thousand people. People move to bigger towns close to home when they graduate, if not further away. The ease of transportation and the fact that it just makes more sense for people to live in one "condensed" area instead of small areas spread out throughout the countryside. There are probably 20-30 towns like this within 1 hour from McCook. McCook might see growth; much of it comes from these towns getting smaller. (would be my guess) Small towns close to Large towns/small cities might see growth because of being "bedroom communities" though: Seward, Ashland, etc..hell, Elkhorn and Gretna used to be small towns and have exploded! And all the old timers hate it!!!
  10. Well, one less idiot off the streets for a year and a half...
  11. And that makes sense. But someone earlier mentioned about how great it was that a President was actually coming through for these rural voters and getting them what they wanted. The average Joe living in small town Nebraska probably won't see their lives change that much...
  12. Point taken. But my overall point of towns are only going to grow and flourish if businesses are willing to come there still stands, I believe. The government can't "make" this happen alone. And if businesses aren't showing interest in investing there, I really think it's a waste of tax dollars for the government to invest in the area. I don't think many would argue that.
  13. Agree. The biggest threat to small towns as most Nebraskans see them (I think most Nebraskans view small towns as most Class B and below) is modern farm equipment and the reduction in small family farms. These sound like some good investments, but I don't see how it's going to cause people to start moving to rural communities in droves. There is a reason Walmart isn't setting up shop in these towns, there isn't enough money to make it worth it. Embrace the quiet living while you can, but times are just changing...
  14. According to Google, there is approximately 20,000 communities in the USA with populations of 50,000 or less. If the $5B gets split evenly, that's $250k for each town. That might get 2 people to stay; for one year...
  15. Orrrr...it's a free roof and AR-15 if you buy an over priced turkey????
  16. Josh Peterson probably has a GREAT source. It's called a lame sports radio show that needs something more to talk about than beer of the day and junior high jokes...
  17. I had to laugh. What would you call the month of October? It's not like anyone in the last three games had "good" games I kid, I kid... I'm enjoying this season because I've been interested to the finish of every game outside of Colorado and Michigan!
  18. I don't disagree with any of your assessments of other teams. However, you are leaving out that Nebraska is also not a world beater. I'll admit. The past decade has given me some serious PTSD as a fan.
  19. MSU is by far the "easiest" game left on the schedule. I hope I continue to be wrong (I thought 4 wins would by the ceiling this year) but I don't think NU beats any of the last 3.
  20. Unless something has changed with the tie-breaker rules, this would be correct. https://bigten.org/news/2011/8/10/Big_Ten_Conference_Football_Divisional_Tiebreaker.aspx
  21. If Haarberg throws over 200, this is going to be ugly. But I'm also not going into the weekend think this is a gimmee for Nebraska. If the Huskers lose this one, I don't think they go bowling. And that sucks!
  22. This. Why have laws against murder? Or theft? Or anything? After all, we should worry about transforming hearts.
  23. Even in your utopia, humans need money to advance the good...that's sad.
  24. Isn't crazy that even thousands of years ago, humans recognized our species sucks? Capable of some great things. But at the same time, just awful!
