Tonight I learned that smoked pork chops do not require as much rub as a pork butt. Wow! I'm drinking a beer per bite!

@JJ Husker these were about 1-1/2”-2” thick.

@knapplc Radial IPA from Infusion. My “beer per bite” might have been an exaggeration...
I did brine for about four hours, but put on a store bought rub before smoking. Only my 2nd smoke ever, first with pork chops. They looked really good in the YouTube video; live and learn I guess. They weren’t terrible, I just had to scrape off the rub. Next time, I’m just going to leave it at the brine and maybe brush on a less aggressive sauce.

Anyone go out to eat yet? I ate at a mexican place today. F
-
@Savage Husker that's what worries me. Restaurants are opening up to "at most" half capacity right now. That means with normal tips the waitstaff will at best make half of what they did earlier. My family is not going to out to eat as long as there is pick-up available. I'll have to find it, but I believe it was Grub Hub that put out some numbers showing that dining in was crashing even before the guidelines and shutdowns which most likely means most people aren't excited about it.
To me, if I was an owner, I'd do my damndest to make drive thru and pick up easy (Jukes in Elkhorn does awesome!) and let my staff stay on unemployment while things got figured out. I feel for the waitstaff that lose benefits because their restaurant opened but then have to quit in one month because they can't afford to work there...

Is ten thousand smackaroos too many smackaroos to pay for a 2nd story deck (composite decking)?
-
How large is it? Any special features?
For a basic deck (12x16, wood rails, etc), even with composite, that would be a little high. But if it's a large deck with built-in benches and other features it seems pretty fair. Do they have to set posts in an already existing patio below it?
If you aren't sure, I'd just get another quote. See how they stack up.

Do you know anyone personally who has died from Covid-19?

@krc1995 We were in Colorado Springs over New Years. In mid January my wife was the sickest she'd ever been: aches, cough, fever, she would just lay on the couch and try to sleep in between coughs. She tested negative for the flu.
She's a nurse, so we self quarantine at our house a lot as well as sanitize anything the sick people touch. She's sure she had it, and the rest of us somehow either dodged it or we're the lucky ones that don't get symptoms...

They should stick with this draft set-up. Unique, and entertaining. Well done by ESPN and the NFL.

I know because they told me.

I'm glad your happy. I really am.
I just worry that many people's faith in the "world to come" gives them a "whatever" attitude about the world that we all currently live in (the one that doesn't require faith).
Your posts in the P&R forum seem to indicate that you are okay with people dying because mere death is nothing compared to salvation in Christ. I have a huge problem with that.
Now, please stop proselytizing in the status update and just take this conversation where it belongs. Maybe others would like to join you there. Thanks.

Why are chicken legs so cheap but chicken wings sort of pricey?

Okay @ColoradoHusk and @teachercd, I need educated.
Is "B-Dubs" the same as "BW-3" the same as "Buffalo Wild Wings"? I lived in Lincoln for a few years after I graduated from UNK and every time we went to Buffalo Wild Wings, my friends and wife now always called it "B-Dubs" or "BW-3". I never questioned them, I just drank beer and ate!
But even to this day, if we go to "Buffalo Wild Wings" anywhere, my wife will call it "B-Dubs". Is she crazy?
I graduated in '03, but they were at UNL between 98-03...

A TV Show where you can name just one person and people know the show. I will start, if you can answer it, answer and give a clue to a new one: JR Ewing

To any parents out there: what do you guys think about the remote learning your district is having your kids do? Positives, negatives?
The feedback I hear is normally good because people realize it isn't my call. I'm just doing what the district says.
But my wife is part "West Omaha Moms" FB group and she says the overall perception is "not good". Many parents in the group seem to be frustrated with the time requirements...
-
@krc1995 yeah, that’s no good!
Im definitely glad we’re doing something. I’m giving kids 2 options for assignments: a computer based one they can do on the couch or a more active one like measuring rooms in there homes or taking inventory of light bulbs.
I don’t want to give too much, but we’re also not done with school. My only “issue” is our districts “requirement” to use Zoom to meet for class. I normally “lectured” my classes for about 5 minutes (maybe a half hour per week), now I’m holding them captive for an hour a week. I’m making it work, but a learning curve for sure!

The amount of work kids are expected to do AND get graded on. Personally, I'm not complaining; but it sounds like some people are. I'm curious, because I have the chance to alter my lesson plans for the next 7 weeks and I'd be happy to take some advice as I plan it.
My kids are on hour #2 this morning. My kids are 4th graders. It works in our house because we're all home. But I can see how some people might feel overwhelmed after working then coming home to help 2-3 kids with homework and making sure stuff gets done.

Once we get back to normal, I hope "technology" is removed from the classroom!
We've spent that past 15+ years hearing about how we need to integrate tech into our classrooms.
Now, at the drop of a hat, we are required to spend 30 minutes a day teaching "face to face" via computer. Using that time to have kids watch videos and use the web aren't recommended....wtf????
