  1. I would almost guarantee that either DK and/or Purdy are gone before signing day IF Husker nation gets what they want. If McCord and DR committ, they will both leave as well as they should. Asking someone to stick around to be 3rd or 4th string is asinine. If we are paying top $$ for the two top dogs, DK and CP have no shot to play without injury. HH will be the other QB in the room and will probably take snaps at TE like early this season.
  2. DR would red shirt unless he is needed bc of injury... he is allowed 4 games. I would imagine he suits and is listed #2, but would be awesome to not need him and save a rs
  3. Wouldn't be the first guy MR hired whom hasn't coached at the college level. That doesn't seem to bother him.
  4. I am guarded. lol. After a season of heartbreak, I can't handle another this caliber. What will happen is the McCord will back off, taking Flemming out of picture..... DK (who actually comm. to Mizzou bc of DR, will decommit and move on.... at the last minute, GA comes through with NIL bonus for DR and he stick with Georgia, leaving us holding the bag. Worse, is if Purdy enters portal and is pissed we are looking to replace him forever with McCord and DR..... THIS WOULD BE PART OF THE CURSE ! lol
  5. Didn’t they give his uncle a big fat raise and an extension late last week
  6. I don’t disagree. I personally think there is a very low chance of Purdy sticking around. He will know that he has no shot to start if we are paying a guy 1-2 m to be here. He graduates and has no reason to stay as a back up. No incentive whatsoever. HH will be out back up next year. Like you I hope he does stay.
  7. I know you didn’t ask me… but on 590, Husker radio… they said it was rumored that we are hosting 4 QB early next week. They assumed it was McCord, Howard, Ward, but didn’t say for sure Leavet. They seemed to think that McCord may not be our top target, but it would shake out after next week. Thought maybe McCord was bet possibility due to the others are ranked higher and more highly sought after.
  8. Correct. I was just giving the example. Now, back to the "Will Howard" topic. If McCord and Howard have the same number of years of eligibility, I am in the Howard camp over McCord. Think he fits us better.
  9. Exactly. Another example, but in the opposite direction is AM. Fans couldn't get him out of town fast enough, yet, after 5 (approx) games, at KSU, he was a in the national talk as a Heisman favorite. We have much deeper issues than QB. But, this year, with a "serviceable" QB, we would at least be bowling, so I am all in favor of getting someone out of the portal, but just want to temper expectations until the much bigger picture gets fixed. I do think the OL got better and will need to continue to be the focal point of recruiting and development.
  10. Absolutely agree ! McCord would have the advantage of knowing the Big 10 and what it takes to be successful in that aspect.
  11. I am not saying I don't want McCord.... but it is so much easier to stand tall in the pocket, scan the field, climb the pocket......when there IS A POCKET. I absolutely agree that HH and Sims are not good. They would rank near or at the bottom of any QB we have ever had. With that said, if you go back during the recent past, and you will see more times than not, our QB can't even get out of their drop and set feet, before they are forced to take off. I will stick to my original post... I want (and we NEED) a guy who can escape pressure and potentially turn a negative play into a positive QB run, if forced to scramble, rather than be a sitting duck, taking 5-10 yard losses with sacks. McCord will NOT put up the numbers he has at Nebraska. OL is sooo much worse than OSU and he will be forced to throw on the run. Our WR can not get open like Heisman finalist and supporting cast of nfl wr. McCord will be a tremendous upgrade, but I am not sure you can look at his stats and think we are getting that version.
  12. Could be wrong but Thompson was hurt bc he couldn’t run well, and got pummeled in the pocket game after game. McCord has -77 yds rushing. I don’t want a duel threat, but someone with a little escapability, especially behind a suspect line that is still trying to get better. I also like the idea of having a guy whom you can occasionally call a qb draw with or that can boot or roll out of pocket to put the defense in conflict situations.
  13. Yes, he had horrible results on the field, and was turnover prone at GT. On the other hand, he is a great athlete with all of the tools and measurements. He also must be a hard worker and great teammate, as he was voted on by his team for a single digit number. I paid close attention to the sideline during home games, and he was constantly involved and encouraging HH and CP. He will find a landing spot, but as stated, probably not a P5
  14. I have no inside stuff, but a few of my OSU buddies say that OSU has been in tight conversations with Ward and even Arch Manning is a rumor. McCord had a good year, but fans of the OSU are used to Stroud, Fields, ect... and he wasn't in their class. He not only caught a lot of flack, the idea of a big time transfer coming in, is enough for him to seek a payday and leave.
  15. I agree with your post, except I am not sure the 5-7 record comes into play nearly as much as the 1.5-2 mil that we are probably willing to pay. Again, most of these guys want a payday more than NC. Of course, they are going to say the right thing, but $ talks the loudest.
  16. Furthermore, most of these guys are looking for a payday rather than playing for titles. Most are not going to be high level NFL QBs ( Brock Purdys) don’t come around often. These kids know that if they make a team, their contract isn’t going to be top notch, so wisely, if they can get 1.5 mil in college, let’s do it.
  17. I understand next years schedule is “tougher” than this year, but I dont understand why many think it is killer or absolutely daunting. we begin with UTEP Colorado UNI Illinois * all at home…. Yes CU ma get us again, but I like our chances then Purdue on road (bad team) Rutgers at home (decent team but at home) Indiana on road (bad team, new coach) Too this point in season, it is no more difficult than this year’s easy schedule.. then Ohio State…. Loss UCLA at home… probably loss USC on road… loss these three are killers, but we had Michigan this year. UCLA is tough but coming across the country in November isn’t easy… Yes, USC is tough. So we replace Michigan with Ohio State, and gain another loss (USC) and a good ucla finish with Wiscy at home…. Same Wiscy team that we should have beat on the road Iowa… same Iowa who we poke fun off every year, but should have beaten so, yes, the entire schedule is more difficult, with those 3 in a row, but getting 6 out of the other 9 isn’t impossible.
  18. Agree ! South Dakota State May very well beat us this year and past 4. I follow them extremely closely. Their QB is better than anyone in our room. I hope he decides to transfer after this year, bc he would fit our system perfectly. There is a reason Neb and Iowa bought out the current and future contracts with SDSU. Local P5 teams refuse to play them right now
  19. I am a long time football coach in the state of Iowa, and I absolutely hate the Hawkeyes with a passion. With that said, Phil Parker is the best defensive coordinator in the big 10 and has been for years. What he has done over a long period of time is Fairly amazing . I believe his defense only allowed two rushing touchdowns all season this year.
  20. Where did you hear/read that he interviewed? Not arguing, just interested. Really, the only place I heard a connection was on HB. Not saying it wasn’t there, but I never once heard a major outlet mention him as a candidate
  21. Foundation probably not laid yet, so I would agree with you. That said, listening to the players, the culture is changing. The fact that Ty and Nash (likely) are returning rathe than bolting for nfl. Both guys would be on a roster next year but have chosen to return bc they like the direction.
  22. I know that it is not a criteria or factor into bowl eligibility, but as much as I hate Fleck, they did beat us, so that is one team no one can complain about. Plain and simple. This team had multiple chances against subpar teams and didn’t get it done.
  23. Bowl selections after conference championships next week
