  1. I'm all for that. Despite their record, we don't have that wide of a separation right now, and if we play like crap, we may lose this game. Put UT on the back burner for now.
  2. I suspect Dr. Tom and Monte Kiffin took advantage of Bob Devaney's knowledge on defense, especially during Osborne's early years.
  3. Oklahoma is a more physical team, and I expect that will give Tech problems. I'm sure Stoops and company will study the Blackshirts' scheme against Tech. Despite the 31 points they put up against us, they only got 259 yards total offense. OU's D is capable of stopping them for much of the game, and its offense is facing a good but not great defense. If OU's offense plays real physical, they should be fine.
  4. This. Osborne was literally the only one who didn't. Frank did it. Bill did it. At least I never saw Dr. Tom do it. That is perhaps why some Husker fans are up in arms over this. T.O. was unique. He had a way to motivate and fire up his players without showing much emotion. Tom Landry (and former basketball coach John Wooden) could do the same thing, but I'm sure 99.9 percent of coaches can't. It's very likely that Bob Devaney got into the faces of his assistant coaches. It's part of coaching.
  5. Zac Lee has been around the system long enough and has played enough games, along with his athletic ability, where he should be showing more. So I fear there is not much upside there, but I hope I am wrong. Cody Green is green. While I have no idea if he can become a game-changer, here's hoping he has some upside and can be a solid, if not a great, QB.
  6. Fans need to use their better judgment and common sense on when to stand and not to stand. It's a fine line between the person sitting in front and the person sitting behind. Some standing is fine as long as it isn't the whole game, except in the student section. At least we now have the video screens during the times we don't want to stand behind the people standing.
  7. Goldschlager -- 43.5? Is that a misprint? That would be quite a wallop for a beer.
  8. Indeed, that would make it much tougher. But Florida, LSU and Alabama have such difficult schedules, so bring it on. Pelini will have to get us up to speed in order to compete if that happens some day. But you should never shy away from tough competition like that.
  9. Does anyone pronounce his name correctly?
  10. I haven't read all the posts on this thread, but I want to say let's see how Watson does once the Callahan holdovers are gone and it's all Pelini's players. I read somewhere that the coaches are frustrated that those holdovers lack mental toughness and are not capable of operating a power-running offense. Remember early last year when we tried it?
  11. Oklahoma is still Oklahoma. Those three loses were within a total of 7 points. Correct, they are not as strong as last year, but are still maybe a top 10 team regardless of their record and how they are rated in the polls. The Skers match up very good against them defensively but are out-matched offensively. We will need our special teams and defense to score touchdowns. I just don't see our offense scoring one TD against that great defense and less than 200 yards total offense. I wouldn't be surprise to see a 17-3 loss.
  12. Come on -- do we have to be so politically correct? So he said white receivers. One could say that the athletic ability that Rex Burkhead has is perhaps rare for a white RB. That, of course, is open for fair debate, but why freak out if it's brought up?
  13. Thanks for telling me. I deleted it out.
  14. Fine with me, too. As long as he has glue on his hands and knows how to get open, that would be the first thing to look at. And who knows what his forty time really is.
  15. I am not questioning what Vince is saying. Lee may very well be more athletic -- at least without shoulder pads on. But as I was saying, among others, he doesn't seem to have the ability to avoid tacklers when he is running. Could it be in his head? Possible. But from my observation, Green has shown more athletic talent on the football field. P.S.: Vince: Do you use ShamWOWs? Do they work as well as advertised?
  16. But Lee's more athletic. Depends on what you mean. Yes, if you are saying Lee has better straight away speed. No, if you are saying Green is shiftier and has better lateral quickness. Green perhaps has better instinct as a runner. He can make you miss. Lee can't. Look, I have said this several times before. Look at Lee's Juco statistics. He had very little net rushing. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that he isn't that good of a runner. He is a drop back passer who needs a lot of improvement.
  17. I was sitting on the south endzone side, and the booing I heard at the end of the half was clearly directed at the officials who were exiting on that side of the field. The only booing I heard toward the team was specifically directed to Lee when he threw the ball out of the endzone on that fourth and long in the second half.
  18. Do not doubt Lee has some serious wheels. But the guy is a complete pass first QB and would rather throw the ball every time he drops back. Daddy has pushed that through his head since he was little to keep his eyes downfield as long as he can to give his WRs a chance. Following up on this, I don't care how many wheels he has -- it's strictly straight ahead speed with no cutting ability and no lateral quickness. And he has no running instinct. As I said, this shouldn't be a surprise. He didn't get much running the football in the Juco ranks. But I wouldn't have a problem with this if he had shown to be an effective thrower, which he hasn't shown half of the time this year. But regardless whether he improves or not or losses his starting position, he will never be a dual-threat QB. He is a classic drop-back passer who hasn't proved he can get it done against tough competition.
  19. He could not recruit the QBs or I-backs for the offense. OK, I agree Frank didn't recruit that well. But don't forget he had some bad luck, also. It wasn't supposed to be Lord at QB. It was supposed to have been Carl Crawford, who instead took a MLB contract, and who is still an active and successful player in the major leagues.
  20. Wasn't part of the success because maybe Missouri's D ran out of gas during that last drive?
  21. OK, the word is still out on how good Lee is. He has shown to throw well at times and not so good during other times. But Zac Taylor didn't look so great when he first played here. So I will give him the benefit of the doubt that this is his transition from the Juco ranks to major college football. I think his arm has a lot of upside potential. But as far as his running ability, I'm not that surprise he hasn't shown much as of yet. If you look at his Juco statistics, he ran for a net of about 50 yards, if I recall. Lee does move around pretty well in the pocket to avoid being sack, but he doesn't run that great downfield. He may run as fast as many of the running backs. He may be faster straight away than Joe Ganz and Cody Green. Could it be a confidence issue or is he one that just doesn't run that fast with pads on? Ganz had shown to be a better downfield runner, as has Green. Both seem quicker and shiftier, even if they don't have Lee's straight ahead speed. Some on this board before the season ever got started got all excited about his running ability because how he could keep up with most of the running backs. But I have for quite awhile been thinking to myself, "Not so fast!," based on his Juco history. Just an observation.
  22. Not sure what game everyone was watching, but Gabbert did worse than Lee in just about every passing statistic: % completion, TDs, interceptions, and passing yards. Why so much props for Gabbert and nothing for Lee? Exactly! Yes, Blaine is talented, but is he that much better than Lee, as some of you are saying? Did you see the second TD to Paul. That required a perfect throw which Lee made. That was an amazing pass! How about the third TD where Lee was about to go down and hit McNeil -- that was a great play. Gabbert has the size, but as far as arm strength, accuracy and foot speed, is there that much difference?
