Has he played a down of football? Not to be too down on South Dakota State, but it's South Dakota State. All we know about him right now is that he tests real well and he's slated to start at a FCS school. SDSU might have graduated a Senior Center last year and Shoff is the first guy up because they don't have anyone else. Physical testing does not equal success on the field.

Agree. The 2012 class was too small. If he graduated in 2011 or this year, he would have gotten an offer.

I'd rather keep Bell away from being a returner. Not that he doesn't have the skills for it, I think he's just a better receiver. Put Moore and Turner back there for now, and see what comes up during fall camp when the freshmen come in.

At the beginning of the year, Jackson beat Pensick out at Center by a small margin, and by the end of the year Pensick was too entrenched in the guard rotation that they kept him there. So in reality the OL is only replacing Choi, and there's a number of guys this spring and at least one in the summer to replace him. I really wouldn't be surprised if we went more 3 WR sets this year to keep Bell, Enunwa, and Turner on the field. Keeping one of our strengths on the field while having our most experienced TE with them.

If it was a problem we would have learned about it before now.

Isn't Nickens a walk-on? Yeah he got into the discussion about playing time on the OL, but there are other guys ahead of him. His moving position is probably a combination of needing bodies at DT and the fact that the coaches think Nickens has what it takes to play the position. Jackson jumped sides of the ball every camp it seemed and he ended up being great at Center last year. How many starters or 2nd teamers have changed position as significantly as Nickens just did? Baptiste is the only one that comes to mind off the top of my head that's still on the team. Then there's Jackson. Turner was a QB coming out of HS, but I don't think after his first camp he was anything other than WR. The only contributor that has left the program has been Heard. Every single other member of the 2011 class that has left had either played very little and were sitting behind someone in the depth chart (Green and Moore after the line got healthy) or hadn't contributed at all, heck Klachko has already stopped playing football all together.

He did not TARGET Gabi's head, even though helmet to helmet happened. Maybe the offensive play should be ejected if his actions cause the contact. The biggest thing is that Safety is the most mentally intensive spot on Pelini's defense, and that's what has held people back from playing. I think Pelini is going to look at how he's run things up to this point and change things. He's lost too many of his older and more experienced to not change. We are going to see the younger, more athletic guys play because of necessity. Also who on defense has been underutilized? After 2010, Courtney Osbourne ended up having trouble with concussions and other injuries. Martin had trouble with the mental aspects of being a LB, so was moved to DE and excelled. The biggest problem that Pelini has had in player management is that his first few recruiting classes were short on game changers. He got a number of good starters and quality men, but outside of Rex, Baker, and Martin, who was more than just a solid contributor?

Reed probably tested his way into a draft pick. I'm not so surprised about the 4.4, but the 41" vertical is crazy. With the way that teams are using 2 TEs, he's definitely going to be picked up by someone.

Minnesota goes down the floor for a quick 2, and then Gallegos gets a 5 second call on the ensuing inbounds. Crazy end to the game and a crazy end to college basketball at Devaney.

Anyone else think it's wildly funny that after Turner jumps offside Pelini jumps all over him and throws down his hat? With as much crap he gets about his temper nationally, it was a nice touch. It was a good idea to start out Spring practice and definitely helps out team camaraderie.

One thing you're forgetting is that Wisky only did that stand up DT/LB motion thing when it was an obvious passing situation. It was never done on first down until the game was in hand.

The entire CCG was a crap show from the very beginning. It wasn't just on Pelini and the coaching staff, the defense just wasn't making plays at all. Evans getting embarrassed by Ball, Stafford and Smith continually taking bad angles. They were also facing a Wisconsin team that was feeling slighted and mad at how they had lost their last few games. They came to play, and when the first bad play happened for Nebraska, things snowballed like they have happened to do since we've joined the Big Ten.

That. I think Newby is going to spend a lot of time as a return man while Taylor is going to be the main back. Kind of similar to what we did with Helu and Burkhead. Except after Martinez leaves there is going to be a lot more carries to spread around because while Armstrong and Stanton are capable of running (more Stanton than Armstrong) they're not nearly as good or have the home run ability that Martinez has. But both of them start out as better passers than Martinez as a freshman.

If there is going to be a rb that's going to redshirt this year, it's probably going to be Taylor. Newby is a crazy threat in the return game, he can be what Abdullah was 2 years ago. Give him a select number of packages in the offense, but have him focus on the return game and catching punts. I like Cross going crazy on the field and just punishing a defense. Too many guys are going to need to be watched, mostly along the defensive front 7, where we had a very good class last year and they pretty much all redshirted.

The biggest thing about the end of that game is that the exact same situation came up at least twice in high profile games (Michigan vs. ND and Miami vs. FSU). In both of the previous games there was more time on the clock that ran off than in the Big XII game, and both those games did not have time put back on for one more play. FSU had something like 2 seconds run off after an incomplete pass in the endzone. That is what was messed up in that situation. I'm all for getting it right to end the game, but the officials throughout the year had shown one way of dealing with a situation like this and the championship officials decided to do their own thing. My favorite moment of the Pelini era would have to be the Oklahoma game in '09. Even from my house you could feel the electricity. If there's one game I regret missing in Memorial Stadium it would be that one. Watching the tunnel walk on youtube after the game gave me chills.

I agree however...I do like that fact that he is not a "homer" and at times can really put stuff into perspective without drinking the Red kool aide. That would be the Shatels and McKewons. I don't know what you're pointing out, but this is Rittenburg and Bennett's postseason player rankings. Doesn't matter if they're going to be back next year or not. A lot of people are leaving the B1G, through leaving early or graduation, though.

The problem with removing helmets from football, is the shoulder pads. Shoulder pads would then have to be removed and replaced with something else. Maybe eventually you'll see football end up with protection similar to Rugby.

Taylor's probably the last guy we have on the list. Roby, OSU's CB, and Dennard are 16 and 19 respectively, and the perception is they had better seasons (both are 1st team B1G). While we had a good year, we really didn't have anyone outside of Martinez who I'd put in the top 10. Evans was solid, but I wouldn't put him in front of they guys already there. Now if Martinez anywhere but 2, I suggest we all raise heck. My prediction on the top 5 are: 1. Miller 2. Martinez 3. Ball 4. Bell 5. Simon Maybe Mauti breaks in their and replaces Simon, but I'm pretty confident on the top 2.

They absolutely need to have a review if they are thinking about ejecting. Can not have the ejection be put on the on field refs. Way too many bang bang plays to be trusted to those guys. Also they need to look and see if it was malicious. Kyler Reed had a helmet to helmet against FSU in 2011 that I would qualify as malicious.
