  1. ...and Missouri wasn't in the SEC coming off a better decade than NE, Kansas had no facilities, Iowa was Iowa, CO hadn't yet legalized weed and moved west, we were playing south not north... ...the formula is a little different today, don't you think? We aren't locking down MO today...Saban/Meyer wouldn't "lock down" MO as a Husker coach. SD, NE, KS might get you 4-5 recruits a year. IA 2-3, CO 2. That isn't landing you in the top 15, even if we double our pull from within that 500.
  2. i don't doubt this at all - but to go from almost having the USC job (a top 5 destination) to not even being mentioned for jobs like Florida, Wisconsin, or Houston - or even SMU, etc - just seems kind of odd to me.
  3. I'm just curious as to why this stings now. The sting should have happened a month ago when we hired our coaches and he wasn't among them. I'm just glad he didn't go to another Big 10 school. I don't want to speak for Chris, but I'll expound why I think it stings. Orgeron expressed interest in coaching at Nebraska. He had a prior relationship with Riley, has a tremendous amount of experience, and is a great recruiter. He has been at marquee programs, and has even been a head coach. Some thought he was just throwing his name in the ring but was likely positioning himself for a head coaching job. Some thought he wouldn't take anything less than a DC position. Now, he is taking a job as a DL coach. In the meantime, we hired Hank Hughes. That is not meant to diss Hughes, I'm excited to see what he will do with the DL. He has years of experience, just not on this big of stage, and I don't know if he can hold a candle to Orgeron recruiting. yup, this exactly. when his name was getting thrown around I didn't think we had a chance. figured he'd be an HC somewhere by this time. to see him to go LSU at the DL position, when he could have been here a month ago kind of sucks. it does however make me question Orgeron though. what don't we know about the man that's keeping him from big time jobs. for everything I saw at USC he handled the interim position perfectly. had a large portion of the fan base and the entire team behind his promotion to HC, it just didn't happen. Now he's off a year and ends up a DL coach? has to be more to the story here.
  4. I think he was a lot better than he was allowed to be. But, I take his stats with a grain of salt. 392 yard on 64 plays, out gaining the opponent by 30ish. 182 on the ground. That looks like a solid day. But when your TOP is only 21 minutes, and you turn the ball over 5 times those big numbers turn to sh#t pretty quick. That's Beck's (Bo's) offense in a nutshell
  5. He graduated with one extra year of eligibility. Transferring in this situation is common. ...going to grad school for your last year is common, you just don't hear about it. transferring is far more rare and almost always triggered by something negative
  6. Had to check the date on this post to make sure it isn't 2010 again.
  7. a learning curve is infinitely better than the flat line we've experienced the last few years. the fact that there is actually a curve should get us 1 more win.
  8. ^ he just said he "is" a WR coach and "was" at Oregon St. that could be anyone, who was there in any capacity (player, coach, etc).
  9. What proof of this do you have? I ask because this sounds like Osborne was forced out and Osborne himself has gone on record to say he wasn't forced out. osborne went on record saying the only possible thing he could say in that sitatuation. pelini was on record saying something different. not saying either is true, but i don't think pelini would just make that crap up, and i wouldn't expect osborne to every confirm it as fact.
  10. I'd say it was pretty clear to Moss that if he did XYZ he'd be back on the team, and XYZ were not monumental in that he didn't think he could follow through with his side of the deal. Otherwise he'd have been packing his bags a year ago. The fact that he stayed mean there was a high likelyhood that he'd be back on the team this spring. If that doesn't happen, combined w/ the staffing change - I'd say it looks pretty crappy for the university.
  11. Bet this plays well with parents when he's selling recruits. Purely strategic - knows it sounds good in the living room.
  12. yes, u are wrong. How so? ...because of the 12-15 yearly walkons that Cally brought in during that time - including a couple of my friends. He had open tryouts even if I remember correctly. Cally didn't "kill" the walk-on program, he just didn't maintain a roster of 200+. Neither did Pelini - so saying he "restored" the walk-on program to the glory days of Osborne is not accurate either, and i'm 100% confident Riley won't take it to that level either. Every program from USC to Florida St. has walk-ons on the roster. Many earn scholarships. This is not unique to NU, and not changing drastically in one direction or the other from the prior 3 head coaches.
  13. If all you care about is "average stars" i'll point you to our lack of depth, historical ratio of misses to hits...and emphasize the need for numbers.
  14. So...if in February they signed a class of 6 - that wouldn't be bad for them? I'm fairly confident their depth might suffer a little with that move, but you're right - that should still have them ranked highly because "average stars". /sarcasm
  15. Or maybe because most of his former staff is now unemployed?....
  16. I don't think Bo lacked the quality talent that we needed to win in the B1G. He struggled recruiting (or maybe developing) a QB and that cost us a win a year, but his biggest issue to me was the numbers. If Riley can bring in the same type of talent, only 3-4 more per year by doing a better (more aggressive) job of managing the roster I think we'll be fine when it comes to recruiting. It might get ugly some times, and we probably can't hand out 7 walk-on scholly's but ultimately you'll see the depth on the OL/DL build and the team get better. Throw in a 5* type difference maker every few years and that'll be enough.
  17. But were they also being pursued by Oklahoma? (Just curious, not challenging the theory)
  18. I guess I'm a little reserved in my excitement. In fairness i do not know that much about Mr. Langsdorf. Could you or anyone else expand on why you are excited about this hire? Transitioning from a first time head coarch, with a first time OC and first time DC - to a tenured HC, with an OC that has almost 10 years of experience in that role. Many of the largest complaints over the last few years have been the lack of experience on the staff - the inability to fix the issues that have plagued us. Well, we have the experience now. That in itself is a big reason to be optimistic about the hires.
  19. my thoughts on kenny... https://mtc.cdn.vine.co/r/videos/91462BBE4F1160814886969016320_3ab506b8ed0.1.2.12371137992644737697.mp4?versionId=nCGvHDYYIHhE2yxhDArVxsNq768EWB7.
  20. Please tell us more about the meeting room. I'm sure Kenny always kept his opinions to himself...and in no way fostered/supported the us-against-the-world team attitude that nearly everything he said the last 18 months represented...
  21. Maybe, maybe not. TA and him never really seems in sync this season. How much of that is on TA, and how much of it is on Bell we'll never know - but I think DPE next year will be a better option for whoever is under center than Kenny. Remove his attitude from the meeting room and IMO we'll be a better WR group. (I thought the same thing about Paul when he left too...great blocker, good stats, crappy teammate)
