I said it a few weeks ago that I was seeing more and more of the Oregon/UCF offense and this game it really came out on full display. Going to be great fun watching this offense tear teams a new one over the coming years. The defense is still a concern and we sorely need new recruits to fix the many issues with it.

Ohio State showed some major flaws last night and hopefully Frost and Co. take a good hard look at what Purdue did in that game. Haskins threw the ball a whopping 73 times! Ohio State couldn't run as Purdue stacked the box and let Ohio State move up and down the field on them. In the red zone they locked down Haskins favorite target and held them to 6 points. Purdue on offense exposed Ohio State's weakness (and a certain guy named Bosa being out certainly didn't help) in the pass defense department. Make Ohio State one dimensional on offense and play good sound coverage in the red zone is the key to taking them down. Easier said than done sure but Purdue isn't exactly a talent wealth pool and they were able to accomplish it. My biggest concern here is the bye week and they will be hungry but the one thing we will have going for us is that these issues they have cannot be fixed in two weeks and can still be exploited by any team (as other teams have shown) this season. 10 takeaways: What to make of Ohio State's shocking loss to Purdue

When we hired Mike Riley, who else immediately thought, "who the f#&% is Mike Riley"? Mr Nice guy was on a good will tour to fix the antics of the previous coach, either that or Eichorst just wanted us to lose, or maybe it was both. I was one who was on the fence about hiring Frost as he hadn't ever (head) coached a team, really regret that now. Frost would have immediately found success as the transition from a 9-3 Pelini team which ran a somewhat similar offense would have been miles ahead of the transition we are stuck with now. Still would have required a lot of culture changes but would have left us in a far better place.

For Iowa fans, seeing Nebraska lose IS their national championship because they will never see one.

I chose 2 wins (BC, Illinois). I have seen flickers of the UCF offense on the field recently but the defense is atrocious. Hopefully Frost realizes this and keeps the pedal to the metal until the last second ticks off the clock, can't rely on that defense AT ALL the rest of the season. Before this season started I was drinking the kool-aid, thought we had a shot at 8 wins. Being more of a realist now but would love to see 5 or 6 wins!

Lots of blame to go around so let's begin: 1.) Referees - Refereed like it was Northwestern's homecoming... oh wait! 2.) Defense (or shall we call it what it really is, the opponents offenses little helpers) - blown coverages, penalties (some on us, others on the referees), missed tackles, you name it, they did it all. 3.) Coaching - Frost went into protect the lead mode with ten minutes left when he should have kept the pedal to the metal and not trusted that defense. I hope he learned that after this game and never does that again the rest of the season.
