  1. Ease up on Taylor. I've said it and I'll say it again. He is a FRESHMAN QB. What do you expect? A FRESHMAN QB can torch a weak defense. A FRESHMAN QB can win most games when the team has either: A) jumped to an early lead via the run game or pass game, or B) the defense is completely shutting down the opposition. In the games where neither of these happen, a FRESHMAN QB will struggle. FRESHMAN QBs have to learn what to do and what not to do in the big games. You saw this with Landry Jones last year, and Taylor Martinez and Garrett Gilbert this year. They're growing pains and both these two will be better because of it (i.e. Oklahoma) Ease off. He didn't play well, Watson's playcalling (your second point, I believe) was the most glaring disappointment in the game and in the season. Now watch him call a brilliant game against our bowl opponent so he can save his ass
  2. Boise State. I hope we don't play either team and I would love to play Boise. I know a lot of people won't share the same opinion as I, but I would rather defeat a better team (OU vs UConn, please) than play a team on equal footing as UConn (Michigan)
  3. Your comment about the defense getting owned is the most ridiculous thing in your whole opinion. You had to know going into the game that Oklahoma was going to throw, and they were going to throw deep. One of those two deep passes was the result of a great pass, which defenders can do nothing about. And a defense can only do so much when it is running on empty, which is exactly what our defense was doing. They gave everything out on the field to keep OU from making it a blowout because our incompetent offense couldn't manage to stay on the field for more than 30 seconds. They gave up only one TD off of turnovers, and two FGs, one of which was the result of a goal line stand. They were the reason this game was close. Oklahoma had 455 yards and only 23 points to show for it. You may call that owned, but I call that impressive As far as the Shawn Watson belief, I can't agree with it for reasons already mentioned. But I do agree that people shouldn't be harsh on Taylor. He is a freshman QB and very rarely will freshman QBs NOT make mistakes in big games. These things are growing pains and they will happen less and less as he begins to mature. But if he is going to be the future QB, then you have to start somewhere, and unfortunately it came with a loss in the Big XII Championship. He will be better because of this though.
  4. While I don't see a lot of dark years coming up for us in the Big Ten +2, I think that we have to get rid of Shawn Watson. This play calling stunk up the joint. But there was one key play that had NOTHING to do with the OC that came in the second half and had a major impact on the game. That play, of course, would be Martinez's INT in the end zone. I understand that he was trying to make a play and wanted to be a hero, but you have to know better to force a throw across your body. If he would've taken the sack or thrown it away it would have been 23-16 Nebraska and we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.
  5. I had I think the same expectations as some of you did going into the season: Win 10 games, win the Big XII by facing Oklahoma, and go to the Fiesta Bowl and win that. So before I hammer in all the disappointments about this season, I'll go ahead and say some positive, "steps forward", that happened this year. Our defense proved that yes, we will be just as good if not better without Ndamukong Suh. We were the number 2 secondary in the country and we made good QBs look silly (except Landry Jones, man did he perform tonight). We went into hostile environments and won. This didn't happen last year (with the exception of Missouri). This year we won games @ Iowa State, @ Oklahoma State, @ Washington, @ Kansas State, and only lost one on the road to Texas aTm (but I won't discuss my opinion on that game) I would say those are our two biggest successes of this year. But I can't think of this season as anything but disappointing. Because it was a season of what could have been if the offense showed up for 3 key games this year: Texas, Texas aTm, and Oklahoma in the Big XII Championship Game. In all of these games, our players didn't execute, but the play calling didn't give them a chance to execute. For God's sake, Shawn Watson, how hard is it to figure out what was successful against Oklahoma tonight? The one rushing TD, we ran between the tackles! There's an old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Running between the tackles wasn't broke, and the only times it didn't work was when we ran the zone read. I don't know of many teams who will be successful running between the tackles if they start 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage at a standstill when they get the ball. Sure it works every now and then, but we were more effective lining up under center and running it up the middle. This is why Shawn Watson needs to be fired. He tries to do too much and it sometimes works, but when it doesn't, he just keeps going at it. Obviously Taylor Martinez played like a freshman in a big game. Those happen. And it's all a part of growing up. But you would think that he would know to throw the ball away when he doesn't see anything. I don't blame him as much for this loss as I do Shawn Watson because he is a freshman and he is still growing and he will be better because of this. But that's just my opinion of this year. Alex Henery kicks ass. I will miss him very much. Adi Kunalic too. Hopefully we play a team > UConn and win, it will make us look better
  6. Listening to Schick and Nick right now-they're talking about gameplanning for this game. Personally, we need to run it RIGHT AT THEM
  7. I'm not on the Fire Watson bandwagon. Clearly, there have been times this year when I thought the game plan didn't put us in a position to win the football game. However, there are times when the offense did not execute the game plan that Wats drew up. Both sides are to blame. And unfortunately for Wats, he gets all the blame even when the offense doesn't execute. You guys hear Bo when he says, "We have to execute." You think maybe that means something? Watson has looked brilliant in a couple of games this year, and he has been limited in some games with injuries. I would like to bet that any offense coordinator in a big time program like Nebraska would struggle if some of their big players were injured.
  8. To me, it is more important to me for us to win the Big XII this year and the Big Ten next year. They're both championship games, and they're both important because they are championships. BOTH
  9. Well, hey, if he's near healthy-then I would start him as well. If he can plant and throw off that ankle, then he is usually a much more effective passer than Cody. Same thing goes for if he can cut off that ankle and have the toe not affect him-he is a much more effective runner than Cody. If he's near 100%, then he is a much better start.
  10. What she has to say doesn't matter, she is as uniformed as uninformed people come. And arrogant too, as are most people from that great poverty-stricken nation of Texas. And yes, I mean nation.
  11. I realized that right after I put it up... The link is fixed now
  12. Per David Ubben (who we all know is a great guy, right?): Henery nominated for Rudy Award
  13. Oh come on, these analysts are the best! They should take a look at our safety play AFTER the Oklahoma State game...and note that it is WAY better
  14. Just remind them that this is EXACTLY what Texas was saying last year-and I think our offense is a little better than last year. Pelini > Stoops
  15. Hey guys, I don't know if this is true or not, but from what I've heard: The exact same crew is going to be officiating the Colorado-Nebraska game. If that is true, then may God have mercy on Nebraska
  16. Abso "freakin" lutely NOT. This season is very much alive! We could have been a national title team. BUT this is why it's College Football. Things happen. I'm sure Ohio State had dreams of a national title, but there they sit with a loss. I'm sure Oklahoma had title aspirations, but here they are with 2 losses. It happens. Great Teams lose every now and then. I'm still excited that we have a shot at winning the Big XII Championship and going to a BCS Bowl. Rome wasn't built in a day, or even 3 years.
  17. That's okay. Alex Henery doesn't need their awards when he's making millions in the NFL by becoming the highest drafted K/P ever.
  18. There is a lot riding on this game, especially seeing how Kansas will not pull of the upset on Missouri in the border war. CU always finds a way to bring it to us and they have a lot riding on this game. They could kill two birds with one stone: they could become bowl eligible AND ruin our shot at going to the Big XII CCG. I for one am concerned about this game. But I think we'll be fired up and ready to play with so much at stake in one of the great rivalry games in all the Big XII.
  19. Get a load of this... Alex Henery this year is 15/16 and has not missed an extra point. He also averages 44 yards a punt on 51 total attempts with numerous punts landing inside the 15 yard line. Name another player who kicks FGs and punts this well for his team. A look at the other candidates: Dan Bailey, Okie Light: 22/26 (84.6% compared to Henery's 93%). Hell he's even MISSED AN EXTRA POINT. Does he punt for his team as well? No. Danny Hrappman, Southern Miss: 23/26 (88.5% compared to Henery's 93%). He's punted a grand total of 5 times for his team with an average of 43 yards per attempt. David Ruffer, Notre Dame: 15/15 on FGs (Same amount as Henery). However, unlike Henery, HE'S MISSED not one, but TWO extra points. Does he punt for his team? No. I don't see how any of these guys are more valuable than Alex Henery. Especially if they miss extra points. Now to the punter candidates: Drew Butler, Georgia: In 43 attempts, Butler has averaged 45 yards a punt, which is just one yard per punt more than Henery Ryan Donahue, Iowa: In 47 attempts, Donahue has averaged 44.3 yards a punt, just .3 yards more per punt than Henery. But I guess having a wind aided 73 yard punt makes a big difference. Chas Henry, Florida: In 40 attempts, Henry has averaged an impressive 47.3 yards a punt, 3.3 yards more per punt than Alex. This guy is actually legitimate. I don't have a problem with the Guy award as much as I do with the Groza. These are supposed to be the awards that deserve to go the best player on any team. This isn't supposed to be the Heisman, which only goes to the best player on a team in the National Championship. Sorry Alex, you got jobbed, you are by far the best kicker in the nation and you will get your award on Friday when they call your name on senior day. That being said, congratulations to Amukamara for being selected as one of the best defensive backs. You too will get a loud ovation on senior day.
  20. I think that more attention will be paid to the officiating of the next game we're in. I wouldn't go so far as to say we have two games left because we still have to beat Colorado unless Missouri somehow loses to Kansas. The aTm officiating was a debacle, a refereeing crew that clearly had an agenda to give Nebraska a hard time if they were to win the game. But they were a bad crew altogether. This crew has been and always will be a bad officiating crew so I think that the crew we have on Friday, if it is not this same crew will give us a more fairly officiated football game against the Buffs.
  21. WE won't. Because we'll be playing in the Fiesta Bowl...I think that's in Tempe, right?
  22. Put the MNC hopes away, and be satisfied with a Fiesta Bowl and a Big XII Championship. I know I will be.
  23. I laughed when I say Rod Gilmore have Michigan State at #7, yet NU wasn't in his top ten. According to his logic, because MSU beat Wisconsin, they deserve to be ahead of Wisconsin. Well then you better put Iowa ahead of MSU and put NW ahead of Iowa. Idiot
  24. Don't understand that rule at all. Sidebar: I don't understand why Helu's forward progress wasn't stopped. IN FACT, if you see the ref, he was saying that Helu was down up to the point that the ISU actors (players) started making claims for the ball (which they did have) He fumbled, but he was stopped long before that
