  1. I don't hate Blaine Gabbert, but honestly, I'm disappointed that he didn't stick to his pledge and become a Husker. I think with him at the helm last season, we have maybe 1 loss and we were right there in the fight to play for the national title. I think he would have made that much of a difference last year. However, now that he's not here, we got Taylor Martinez at QB and the future looks really bright at QB for the next few years. As for his little brother Tyler, I don't hate that kid at all. I honestly think he was over-hyped and would be a wasted scholarship had he stayed with his commitment to UNL. I also side with other posters in saying that Tyler Gabbert will be a clipboard holding waste of a scholly on the Mizzou side also. On the flip side, I do have some discontent for these kids upbringing. As a father of 3 boys myself, I seriously doubt any of my kids would go back on a commitment, much less 2 of them. Blame the parents, not the kids.
  2. I only listens for about 30 minutes per day and 29 of that is listening to two guys laughing at their own skits. If you want awefull listen to Dick Janda's On the Bench on Lincoln's ESPN Radio 1480. In order to have a radio show, you have to have an opinion about something, Janda's got nuttin. The other day, Janda asked Tyler Reed why we go with a two tightend set. Gimme Kugler and Severe at least until Day Light Savings time, then I can't get 1620's reception worth a crap.
  3. If Texas wouldn't have two losses, chances are Brent and Herbie would be doing the game , because it would have been the network's marque game, now it's just a "regular" one.
  4. The M&N Sandwich shop on 27th & Randolph is a great place for the best sandwich in the city. The Chicago style Italian Beef is excellent. There is no atmosphere at all, but the sandwiches are incredible. Stop by, you'll thank me.
  5. Maybe North Dakota State. Craig Bohl likes the state of Kansas. North Dakota probably was on the list, but they had some success, so they are out. Betcha South Dakota Sate is on the short list.
  6. According to the Topeka Capital Journal, Kansas State is dropping another football series with a nationally ranked program. The Wildcats reached a mutual agreement with Virginia Tech to cancel the home-and-home series scheduled for 2014 and 2016, according to a letter from athletic director John Currie posted on K-State's athletics website. K-State will not owe a financial penalty. K-State also canceled a home-and-home series against Oregon that was scheduled to begin next season. something tells me that a Va Tech will be replaced with a serious power house, maybe one of the Jayhawk Conference teams has an open date.
  7. Rivals premium board has a thread saying Bouzos suffered an injury in his last game, anyone got any info?
  8. Look for Nebraska's crossover game to against Penn State. I'd rather have it be Wisconsin, but they would probably take Minnesota instead. Wisconsin vs Minnesota is one of the most storied rivalries in college football, representing the oldest and most-played rivalry in Division I-A football, with 119 editions dating back to 1890. The Golden Gophers lead the all-time series, 59-52-8. However, Wisconsin HC Brent Bielema has lobbied for Nebraska to be their designated rival in the expanded Big 10, so this ain't over till its over.
  9. Director of Football Operations Jeff Jamrog confirmed it last night on Big Red Wrapup that the new Big 10 Divisions will be released today. Also Jamrog said that starting in 2015 the Big 10 will be playing 9 conference games annually instead of the 8 they play now. Jamrog went on to say that UNL needs 7 home games every year, so the years that the Huskers only play 4 home conference games, that every OOC game will need to be in Lincoln. Considering that some home & home games with Miami and Tennessee have been scheduled out past 2015, there may be some wheeling and dealing concerning who comes to Lincoln, and when. Here's the link from the LJS http://huskerextra.com/sports/football/article_f151c238-b571-11df-b9fa-001cc4c03286.html
  10. I'm afraid we'll have Carl on the staff only 2 more years, then he'll go off to prove that the Blackshirts aren't only just Bo.
  11. In today's Q&A, LB Sean Fischer said that most of the mustaches will be gone because the players will be doing their videos for HuskerVision and "no one wants to be up on that big screen with their mustaches." BTW, Fischer said the Alonzo Whaley's stache is blond. I'd love to see a picture of that before it's gone.
  12. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! I honestly think the fans and media obsession with the Texas game is completely out of hand. It's almost as if a majority of Husker fans will be satisfied with the 2010 season if we went 1-11, as long as the one win is over TexAss. While the players have 0:01 on their wrists, the coaches certainly are not focusing on one game. In order to meet the team's goals of winning the Big 12 and playing/winning a BCS bowl, they need to play them one at a time. I know I got a little cliquey, but still, this focus on one game is not healthy. In all seriousness, we could lose to TexAss and still attain the goals the team set for 2010.
  13. Junior Miller still lives in Lincoln and owns Miller Mailing.
  14. My friend was lucky enough to attend spring practice on Saturday the 10th. Here's his report. 1) Any reports of the offense having the upper hand on the defense are purely false. 2) Cody Green was the second best QB on the field. Based on what I observed, I would play Taylor Martinez in a heartbeat over Green. Lightning quick and a better arm that I expected. Martinez could have scored on several scramble plays. If we put the ball in his hands, he will hurt teams. 3) Green can't throw the ball a lick. I can't recall how many passes were picked off, or were very very close to being picked, or sailed over the heads of everyone. If my girlfriend were as late as he is with the football, I'd start working a second job. 4) Our defensive backs are stellar. We have a bunch of pure studs back there, that can seriously play some ball. 5) Carl Pelini was not joking about us being 2 deep at the defensive spots. They rotated guys often that appeared to be mostly interchangeable. 6) Hagg, Amukamara, Dennard and Gomes are unreal. 7) Alonzo Whaley played very well at linebacker. Many times he was teamed with Martin, who is a pure animal, and Hagg. Pretty formidable combo. 8) Sean Fisher missed twice as many tackles as he made. 9) Burkhead looks like a block, as do Helu and Robinson. Robinson is a load. 10) Kyler Reed is a specimen. 6'2 230 and lean. He and Mike McNeal got down the seam quite often but the QBs had a tough time getting them the ball. 11) D Line is going to be good again. Obvious drop off without Suh, no two ways around it. But will be fine. 12) Young OL players are big dudes. Qvale spent a lot of time at guard and is just a monster size wise. Hardrick is also very large and I'd be shocked for him to not make an immediate impact. 13) Niles Paul is a load. The matchup between him and Prince was fun to watch. 14) The kickers just jacked around all day. Telling knock-knock jokes and yucking it up seems to be their purpose at practice. 15) Marvin Sanders is a very, very good coach. Ekeler is a very, very good cheerleader
  15. IMO, Tyler Moore will not be a five star recruit, at least initially next year. Players who commit during their junior year don't 'sell', 5 star recruits sell subscriptions because fans want to think there is a chance that he could attend their school. He'll be the highest 4 star available and ranked in top 100, but won't have that 5th star.
  16. Carnes may have gotten here later that expected, but he's not flying out until Monday, so there's plenty of time to show him why Nebraska is the place for him to spend the next four or five years.
  17. Collegefootballnews.com's Rich Cirminiello looks at the Booms and Busts from the 2006 class. Here's the link. http://cfn.scout.com/2/940369.html Out of the 28 prospects that were 5 star recruits in 2006, only 12 lived up to their 5 star hype.
  18. if you caught 1620 on Friday, the 8th, Terry Donahoe was on and he said that Mike Riley from Oregon State should be hired to take over USC in very short order if Pete Carroll leaves to coach the Seahawks.
  19. Ingram reminded me more of Emmitt Smith than anyone. Same size, speed, the ability to run through arm tackles and laying the hit instead of being hit in finishing runs. Ingram impressed me the Title Game.
  20. I agree with most of the previous posters that Eric Martin someone who should shine next year. Sipple from the LJS has something on their blog today (1/2) and will be in the newspaper on Sunday and Carl Pelini has some great things to say bout Eric Martin. I'd add PJ Smith, Jason Ankrah, Lavonte David and Thaddeus Randal to the list of the players that I'm looking forward to watching in 2010. But in order for the 2010 team to get where we all want it to be we need a few players to step forward on the offensive line. Hopefully Mike Smith has started his last game at left tackle and Yoshi (Jamarcus Hardrick) will step up and be THE left tackle. I've got high hopes for Jeremiah Sirles and Brent Qvale can also step up and if not compete for a starting position, then at least push the returning starters. I've seen tons of message board posts that want to know what kind of offense the Huskers will run in 2010 and whatever it is, its only as good as the guys blocking up front.
  21. I've talked to PJ's father at our Tailgate spot before games. He said that PJ was miserable his first semester in Lincoln and wanted to come home, but Dad made him stay. I'm totally convinced that if PJ's last name was Gabbert, he wouldn't be a Husker anymore.
  22. what I love about those photos are Suh's eyes. They look exactly the same in every picture, he really looks calm out there. Everyone remembers the story about former Bear great Mike Singletary and his contacts popping out of his eyes when he laid a big hit on someone. Suh's eyes aren't wide open, they are just cold steely eyes that just stare right through you. Great pictures, thanks for the link.
  23. I saw him play in the CU game also. I have a ton of respect for Chris Brooks. He came in with all the hype, and things may not have turned out like he (or some of us) hoped, but he's proud and will give his eye teeth for his teammates. We need more guys like Chris Brooks on this team.
  24. I'm afraid that Mother Nature is going to put a damper on golf on Friday, Snow showers?? and a high of 38 degrees. Sunday doesn't look too bad, mid 50s
