  1. That’s using be run game to set up the pass. Not the other way around.
  2. Why would people complain about his offense? His offense is #1 in scoring and #5 in total offense in the country. Explain to me how this is something that Husker fans would complain about.
  3. The lack of a mobile QB also hurts in the red zone. Just once, I would like Lee to keep one of the zone reads (where it's not a read, because he's handing it off every play). He could probably waltz into the end zone.
  4. I had this sent to me on Twitter by Mike'l Severe when I asked him about NU injuries. NU's not the only team that has had a lot of injuries. Florida and Florida State have been killed by injuries. http://www.donbest.com/ncaaf/injuries/
  5. The entire coaching staff needs to go.
  6. Wilson redshirted last year. I think people are just curious about him because his redshirt was almost pulled at the beginning of last season and he almost played at guard after Foster's injury in training camp. Now, he doesn't sniff the field.
  7. That list confused me a bit. Is the "buyout" the amount that other schools would have to pay the current school if they hire their coach, or is it the amount owed to the coach if the coach is fired? I read it as the latter, or is it both?
  8. In both of Riley's biggest "upsets" during his time at NU, his team was able to overcome a 12-point, 4th quarter deficit.  NU just needs to get to that 12 point deficit going forward.

Don't worry. Riley's teams have a knack at getting behind early in a game (usually by multiple scores). Over 65% of snaps by the offense have been while trailing this season.

      That's a heck of a stat.

This is one area where both sides of the ball are doing their fair share.......getting us behind early. Who knew that could be a positive.

  9. One thing that I saw against Purdue is that NU has Lee throwing many of the same deep patterns to the sideline that Armstrong threw. These passes were thrown against 1-on-1 coverage, and many fans criticized Armstrong for throwing "YOLO bombs". It's more of a fact that those passes seem to be the staple of Langsdorf's offense. I will say that Lee is able to make a number of throws that Armstrong wasn't able to, and that's where he is able to to make some difference in the passing offense. However, he is also a statue, and isn't able to make any plays running the ball, so there is the trade-off.
  10. Crap, Decker is likely out for the season.
  11. Thank you. I understand teams want to be balanced, but there is still a "commitment" to the run game that needs to take place by the coaching staff and the OC. That means the o-line coach needs to be able to teach run-blocking techniques just as well as pass-blocking techniques. That means the OC is willing to call run plays and stick with run plays when there are short gains or negative plays. We have heard Langsdorf say that he treats 1 and 2 yard runs as negative plays, and it's tough for him to go back to those run plays after they happen early in a game. This is not committing to the run, and it's definitely not having the "pass game set up the run game".
  12. I haven't seen many successful offenses that "use the pass to set up the run", can you point some out for me?
  13. It's a flawed argument that the passing game success opens up the run game. It just is. It will be interesting to see how the last 4 games play out. If I were an opposing DC, I would sit back in zone coverage with 7 or 8 guys, and almost force NU to try and run the ball. I don't think NU can win one on one blocking in the run game. EDIT: Riley said in his PC today that NU's run game is struggling to run because the o-line isn't winning one on one battles. Eventually, defenses will start playing the LB's a step or two deeper and wider to take away passing lanes, because they won't have to worry too much about run support against NU.
  14. Decker and Tanner Farmer are on the injured list for this week's depth chart. Conrad #1 center, and Farniok is #RG. I like Farniok at guard, but Conrad at center is not good.
  15. I would like to see more Bradley, as well. He did a good job of making the first guy miss on a number of his runs and pass catches. The outside zone runs may have been runs that Bradley cut back and took outside on his own, but yes they were nice plays and gives the run game another dimension.
  16. Lee has been playing very well the past few games, and I was very critical of him early in the season (when he wasn't playing well). With the run blocking in complete shambles, NU's best chance to win the remaining 4 games is to let Lee throw it 50 times a game. Now, that's not a recipe for success long-term, but it's really the only thing that might work this season..
  17. I thought pro-style coaches were supposed to be able to have fast starts because they usually script the first 15 plays based on the defense's tendencies.
  18. I know the DPI on the fake punt was a terrible call, but how did the officials miss the Tanner Lee fumble at midfield early in the 2nd quarter?  He wasn't close to being down and he lost the ball.  NU caught a break there, and ended up getting a FG on that drive.

If I'm remembering the play right, the refs ruled his forward progress stopped before the fumble, not that he was down.

It's just weird that they ruled it that way when he's being brought down on a sack.  That call rarely happens.

Except in the big 12 ;)

  19. Decker is known to be a very smart guy, so I think he was able to make the calls on the o-line and help with the communication. Hopefully he can make it back this week, because Conrad hasn't been good when he's been playing. Regarding the coaching vs. players fault, it's definitely a mixture of both. Cavanaugh has had a pretty bad o-line for 3 years now, so I put a lot of blame on him. However, the players aren't blameless. They are the ones out there playing and making the effort (or lack thereof).
  20. I agree that the passing numbers are more of the will of Langsdorf and his "giving up on the run" as soon as the D shows any resistance.
  21. On the NU playing from behind department, the Huskers have 1 TD and 16 total points in the last 3 first halfs. That TD was the 70 yard TD pass to Morgan against Wisconsin. The Blackshirts then gave up a 75 yard TD run the first play from scrimmage after that TD.
  22. Can we revisit the idea that some people had that Tanner Lee’s passing ability would open up opportunities for the run game to be more successful?
