  1. He can get into a JUCO for the spring semester and be eligible for the draft in 2016.
  2. I have a hat with the old Herbie too. I love it. I also look for t-shirts with the old Herbie, as well as Cornhuskers wording.
  3. I talked to a friend of mine who used to work for one of the popular Husker merchandise stores for several years, and he said beyond the usual jerseys, polos, hats, etc..the items that they would constantly have to restock the fastest were anything that had the old vintage Herbie Husker on them. Who did away with that Herbie Husker? I would like to will my dislike of that person to my descendants in perpetuity. When I was at UNL in the 90s, the Herbie Husker had blonde hair and the funky face, but he wore a football uniform to most football games. When Steve Pederson came aboard in the 2000s, one of the first things he did was give Herbie a makeover. He took away the overalls, beer belly, and blonde hair. He made him more buff, threw on a red shirt and blue jeans, along with brown hair.
  4. I like the old Herbie with blonde hair and overalls. I actually like Lil Red, too. I really like the Block N. I love the Stick N on the helmets. Not a huge fan of the old script Huskers, but also hate the new Huskers logo too. I wish the athletic department would use the term Cornhuskers more, and save Huskers as an "abbreviation".
  5. Murray will most likely go the baseball route.
  6. I rewatched Episodes 4-6 with my son so he could be familiar with them before we see Episode 7. He's 9 and when we watched RotJ with my 6-year old daughter, they both loved every scene with the Ewoks on Endor. I guess I don't get the ire of SW fans who say that the Ewoks ruined RotJ. I still think it holds up and is a very good capper on the original trilogy. I hadn't seen it for a while, so I also didn't like the "NOOOOOO" dubbed in for Darth Vader at the end. I also didn't like them putting in young Anakin at the end, but I had seen that before. I guess they wanted to show Anakin when he was last a Jedi, and before he came Darth Vader. Overall, I'm pumped for Episode 7. I don't want to fight crowds and stand in long lines with my kids, who will get super impatient. I want to wait for the week between Christmas and New Years and go see it some morning with them, as I am not working.
  7. Yup, no spoilers in this thread or you'll be banned in less than a parsec. Edit: I also edited the thread title to reflect that policy. A parsec is a unit of length, not time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parsec Sorry, I did nerd out there for a parsec, err second.
  8. Sounds like Murray is going to concentrate on baseball. I would say that's a smart choice considering his size and potential in baseball.
  9. So, if he doesn't know the plays....oh hell....just give him the ball and it doesn't matter if he knows where he is supposed to go or what he is supposed to do. Great idea. There is a middle ground that can be found with coaches, especially ones who are imaginative on finding uses for all the talent on the roster. If Wilbon can't understand the entire playbook, then the coaches could work with him to create a package of plays that he can be successful in. Wilbon may have been the most physically gifted of all the RB's on NU's roster, but the coaches couldn't find any way to use him this year? Sooooo.....studying in the class room and keeping his grades up doesn't matter either? I have heard he had grade issues. If he has grade issues then I don't have a problem with the guy being benched. But, going back to the playbook issue, there are many coaches around the country that can find a package of plays that can be run by certain players. It's called "finding uses for your talent". The coach is limiting his roster if he has the mindset of "he has to know the entire playbook from cover to cover if he is going to play with me". I would go with the attitude of "what a player does know" rather than "what a player doesn't know". I think its been well documented through the year it was a pass blocking issue as much as anything. And when you pass 45 times in a game it is important to know. Its too bad because he's probably the best runner. Its also too bad our Oline wasn't held to the same standard that they have to know how to pass block to see playing time. It got better toward the end of the year but for a long time it was a disaster. Honestly, I think Cavanaugh started the o-linemen who were the best pass blockers. In fall camp, a lot of the media on hand raved about guys being great run blockers (Jerald Foster for one), but didn't sniff the field in the season.
  10. I think that's very open to interpretation. You could also blame Global Warming. Or Osborne retiring... Are there NU fans that are mad at Osborne retiring when he did? I am just curious.

  14. I would think that draft grades probably have a range that is given to the player. From what I have heard about Collins, he will do awesome in the interviews, plus he is not even 21 years old yet (born 4/8/95). He has a lot of potential to get better and better once he makes football a full-time job.
  15. Is it me or does this suggest we held most teams at or below their season average with the exceptions of Miami, Northwestern, Purdue, and arguably MSU? Minnesota also scored above their average. Also, how is it "arguable" that MSU scored aove their average when it was 5 points above their average. That's almost a TD. Banker's D allowed way too much yardage and didn't create many turnovers either.
  16. Aggie is the biggest fraud of a "major program". They have done absolutely nothing the past 50 years, but they think they are such an amazing program.
  17. Wow, first Kyle Allen and now Kyler Murray.

  18. Jalin Barrett is the guy you are referring to. I think he's going through the typical true freshman redshirting and so on. Too early to tell if he's "not getting it".
  19. It was mentioned yesterday in the thread about Farmer going out for wrestling after the bowl practice. Farmer is one of those guys who seems like he has been here forever. How many more years does he have left? From the roster, he is a Redshirt Frosh this year. So, he has 3 more years of eligibilty http://www.huskers.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&SPID=22&SPSID=4&DB_OEM_ID=100
  20. I've heard from "reliable sources" that he is still having memory loss issues and may accept a medical hardship.I've also heard of lingering issues. What is a medical hardship anyway? He's already taken a redshirt year. Can he get some other type of scholarship if he doesn't play anymore? Would it count towards our scholarship limit? He would stay on scholarship, but it would not count against the 85 limit. $EC does it all the time to weed out non contributors. Medical hardship allows for another year to play. Typically, if somebody plays less than 20% (I think) of the season, they can be awarded a medical hardship and gain another year of eligibility. There is a medical hardship rule that allows injured players (from a healable injury) to gain another year of eligibility if they lost a year due to injury. The discussion about ZD is a medical disability rule for players who suffer a disabling injury that still allows the athletic department to pay for his schooling but essentially removes him from the roster of eligible players. He could still attend practice I believe and soak up football knowledge if coaching is in his future. I wish him the best in whatever decision is made. The terming of the 2 rules are Medical Hardship and Medical Redshirt. The Medical Hardship is when the player can't play any longer due to injuries, but is allowed to stay on scholarship, be involved in practices, and NOT COUNT against the 85 scholarship limit and overall roster size. The Medical Redshirt is when a player suffers a major injury in the first few games (less than 25%) and that player sits out the remainder of the year, and is allowed to count that year as a redshirt season. It's basically Injured Reserve for college players. Some players are also given 6th years if they have suffered severe injuries in multiple years during their original 5-year clock. Sometimes that 6th year of eligibility will be termed a "hardship year".
  21. Honestly, if I were a coach, I would be very hesitant to ever put him on the field where he could get full contact. If he took one more solid hit and the kid got brain damage or life-long issues, I would feel so guilty. I am sure Darlington wants to give it a go, and understands the risks, but there are some times where it's best not left up to the player if he plays or not.
  22. So is Eppley making up the stats/scores that he is talking about? I am not saying he is making up stats and scores. But, for him to come out with these strong opinions after such a crappy year seems like a bit of PR work by the Athletic Department.
  23. It was mentioned yesterday in the thread about Farmer going out for wrestling after the bowl practice.
  24. I am not saying Eppley is wrong, and I know that there was considerable lack of depth in quality talent. However, Eppley is now working for Riley and the Athletic Department, which he wasn't doing under Bo. There could be a bit of his commentary meant to cover Riley's/Eichorst's ass here. NU fans are not happy with the 5-7 record and Eichorst knows that. But, Eichorst also knows that Eppley is very well regarded by NU fans, so maybe Eichorst sent out Eppley to do some PR work with both major news outlets in the state.
  25. Yes, there can be strong recruiting classes brought into Nebraska. Osborne brought in top 5 classes. Callahan has shown to bring in a top 5 class. However, it's difficult to do that on a consistent basis. It would be tough to convince that top California/Florida/Texas QB to come to NU year in and year out. It would be tough to pull in a stud D-lineman year in and year out from the deep south. Typically, the top players still like to play at schools that are near their hometown. Yes, it can be done on occasion, but to think that Nebraska is at a disadvantage because of their location and nearby population base is very short-sighted.
