BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
JS link QB Hildebrand says he's left team BY STEVEN M. SIPPLE / Lincoln Journal Star Wednesday, Dec 13, 2006 - 03:09:04 pm CST Quarterback Brian Hildebrand is no longer with the Nebraska football team. Hildebrand, who transferred to Nebraska this past August from Mt. San Antonio (Calif.) College, said Wednesday that NU coaches suggested this past weekend that he should consider his playing career elsewhere. He joined the Husker program as a walk-on last semester expecting to earn a scholarship for the second semester. “What they said (last weekend) was that my best opportunity to play and my best opportunity to be put on scholarship would be elsewhere,” Hildebrand said. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Hildebrand, a native of Corona, Calif., said he was fourth on the depth chart this season behind senior starter Zac Taylor and sophomores Joe Ganz and Beau Davis. Hildebrand said he plans to transfer to an NCAA Division I-AA school. Because it will be his third transfer — he attended Oregon State for one semester as a redshirt — he will be required to sit out next season, then have one season of eligibility remaining. He was clearly disappointed with the turn of events. “The (Nebraska) coaches have been helpful trying to help me find another school,” Hildebrand said. However, “Most schools aren’t willing to take a quarterback for one year.” Days after Hildebrand’s arrival in August, Nebraska also brought in Sam Keller, a transfer from Arizona State who has one season of eligibility remaining. The Huskers in November also received an oral commitment from Zac Lee, a quarterback at City College of San Francisco, who will join the team in time for spring drills. Quote Link to comment
mbhusker13
Shame that he was a walk-on. to bad for the kid, (paid for school.) also it didn't free up a schollly. Quote Link to comment
DaveH
Not to terribly surprising. Heard he was having a hard time catching on. Quote Link to comment
gamecocks
I fell bad for him. Hopefully he can find a good school and continue with football. Quote Link to comment
DJR313
Good luck to you, Brian. Quote Link to comment
Hawkeyehusker
Really no surprise. He was what 3rd or 4th on the depth chart? With Lee and Witt coming in he really wasn't going to see much action. If he was catching on he would have been given a scholarship for this coming year. Quote Link to comment
Spartness
Not that surprising. I was told he wasn't that impressive. I hope he finds a school that fits him better. Quote Link to comment
coyeote
That sucks. I was actually rooting for him or anyone to really push Keller hard for the starting job. I hope the kid lands on his feet Quote Link to comment
Touchdown Tommie
Too bad for him I guess. Hopefully he can find a school that fits him and he is successful. Quote Link to comment
MadcatNU
hearing rumors that he is pretty upset. supposedly went on a radio station today or yesterday and blasted the staff. claims he was promised a scholly for his second semester. Quote Link to comment
BIGREDIOWAN
That's too bad, but with all the QB's we have I can't say I wouldn't tell him the same thing............at least they are being honest with him rather than lying to him.......... Quote Link to comment
Touchdown Tommie
I suppose I would be a little upset too, but he should have seen this coming. If I wasn't offered a scholly right away, I think that might have been an idea to look elsewhere. Also, if was not catching onto the offense, why would the staff want to keep him around. foote_21
I heard him on Big Sports 590 today... I think there is more to the story then he is letting on. He didn't bash the staff really bad like Andy Birkle did... but he did call a member of the coaching staff a liar, although he would not mention names. On a side note, the interview was horrible, I'd like to know how the kid ever passed a high school speech class... he was absolutly horrid on the radio. Quote Link to comment
Axl_sued_me
Don't let the door hit you in the ass. Quote Link to comment
Pedro Guerrero
I think Watson is who got him here so he is probably who his anger is aimed at. Any how good luck to this kid in the future. Quote Link to comment
