BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
From the Lincoln Journal Star: I've heard some concern expressed over Bill Callahan losing four assistants in three years as Nebraska head coach. Well, please consider UCLA. In Karl Dorrell's four seasons as head coach, the Bruins have had to replace 21 assistants (the latest loss occurred Monday, when o-line coach Jim Colletto went to the Detroit Lions). As it stands, Dorrell has one assistant who was part of his original staff. Jay Norvell is Dorrell's fourth offensive coordinator at Westwood. After a 10-2 season in 2005, Dorrell had to replace -- drum roll, please -- six assistants. . . . Elsewhere, it will be interesting to see if Nebraska quarterback recruit Zac Lee will be ready for spring practice. Lee, who already is taking classes at NU, is rehabbing a knee injury. "We'll have to wait and see," new Nebraska offensive coordinator Shawn Watson said. "We'll know more in the latter part of February." Lee has four seasons to play three at NU. . . . Watson, who also will coach quarterbacks, has an overriding theme going into spring practice: He wants to create competition and depth at the position. "It's got to be harder in practice than on game day," he said. "The talent at that position here is really good. We have five quality players." Quote Link to comment

NU fan in Denver
Losing assistants is just part of the game anymore. Every coach wants to improve their status. Good teams are going to have a high turnover, but UCLA's is a little odd. Quote Link to comment

HuskerHank
Norvell just might eventually parlay this move into a HC position there if he plays his cards right! Quote Link to comment
DJR313
Norvell is going to be sorry he left.............. Probably not, but Watson will make everyone say "Jay who?" by the end of 07. Quote Link to comment

husker rob
Norvell just might eventually parlay this move into a HC position there if he plays his cards right! that is probably why he didnt get one of the HC jobs that he interviewed for. even though he was OC he really didnt have control of the offense. now that he is going to be calling the plays and gaining that experience, if he does well he will have a HC job in a couple of years Quote Link to comment
