Maybe is was not so much Dr. Tom telling Pelini who to hire as much as Pelini discussing the people he would look at for his staff. Maybe Pelini said, I liked working with Brown or Cotton or Gill or whoever and discussed how these people would work in his staff.

When Dr. Tom talked to Grobe, maybe he said here is my staff and Dr. Tom just asked about other coaches that might hasve ties to Nebraska in the past and Grobe did not know these guys or did not want to take that path.

I do no believe that Dr. Tom told Pelini who to hire, though he might have had some input based on Pelini asking for input. Grobe is not a bad guy for not having that mentality and he did not get the job...no harm and nothing against him.

After all, Brown did say that Pelini told him back in 03 that if he was the new Head coach he wanted Brown on his staff. Pelini is following through with things he talked about back then...I am excitied to see the changes and I truely hope this tunrs out good for Coach Pelini and the team. I believe it will.

Osborne tells the new coach guys he wants on staff, but gives Callahan no input as far as guys he should keep or let go. Something doesn't add up here. I think Osborne wanted Callahan to fall flat on his face so he could get rid of him, no questions asked.

I can agree that TO wanted Clownahan and company to fall on their face. In fact, I don't just think TO wanted it but all the boosters wanted it as well. If Clownahan would have won out the remainder of the season, I think the boosters would have had egg all over their face and Clownahan would have been retained.

To me, the coaching search really seems like a 2 man show right now. However, I'm beginning to feel rather it was just a one man show with everyone hoping that one guy said yes. The boosters ponied up big bucks to get rid of Pud and Clownahan. I have no idea what they had to pony up to get Pelini. We shall see if their interference was a good thing or a bad thing. I will say though that I feel better having TO in the mix than if it were Pud.

What do you think about the government cover up of UFOs?

How would the booster had egg all over there face? Do you think the boosters had something to do with Pud being fired? Please explain.

You must think less of T.O. then you think, if you got the impression that he wanted Callahan to fail, and he would be willing to dangle a string in front of Turner Gill, (a good friend) when he had no thought of considering him for the job.

My thoughts are that T.O. was offered the interim AD because he was the most logical at that point of the season.

Offered to help Callahan anyway he could and was turned down by an egotistical coach. Then even after the coach went out and tanked the next 3 games, T.O. was still willing to give him a chance. After seeing Callahan run up the score against Kansas ST, and the collapse of Colorado game, he decided he had no other choice, but to fire Callahan.

T.O. then went out and interviewed everyone that responded to the search committee that would be interested in coaching at Nebraska. T.O. then went and interviewed everyone with the thought in his mind they had to fit a certain criteria IE Defensive minded, Money issue. and Not cemented to bringing a whole staff to Nebraska (Which I agree, since then it would feel like a bunch of outsiders coming in and taking over your team) (Last thing Nebraska needs is coaching staff with a bunker type attitude coming in, and then having posters start complaining about certain assistants.)

After interviewing everyone he compared the list of who fit the criteria the most and chose Pelini. I know that's less intrigue and fun to think it came about this way, but most likely the way things came about.

I think the boosters had everything to do with Pud being fired. I really don't believe in coincidence. How did a guy who was given an extension for supposedly doing all these great things for Nebraska's athletics suddenly be found to be the "devil"? It's funny none of his supposed dictatorship and people within the athletic department hating him came out until the football team began to struggle.

I think everyone involved wanted Clownahan to fail after Pud had been fired. If he would have won out, it would have been extremely difficult to fire him. I don't think TO ever dangled anything in front of Gill. I don't think Gill was ever seriously even in contention for the job. When Solich was fired, Gill even though he was the assistant HC wasn't named the interim. I don't think anyone ever seriously saw him as a HC here. I'm thinking what football players I knew said must have been correct in him being lazy.

I agree that TO was the most logical choice to be the interim AD. However, I think he was brought in with strings attached that he must adhere to or else someone else would have been named. He was brought in knowing Clownahan was done, and his job would be to pursuade Pelini into coming here as our next HC. I think the boosters and Pearlman had been working quite a while behind the scenes. If you don't believe me, just pm skersfan and ask him what he knows of the situation.

Lot easier to come out when it looks like the boss is hurting image wise and Paul Meyers, Nebraska's associate athletic director for major gifts, resigned after 13 years with the school's development office.

That sent a big red flag to the chancellor and the stuff Paul Meyers had to say in his end of employment discussion.

Might be because BO had it stated in his contract (like someone else pointed out before on here) that if a coaching change happened during the season BO would be named interim HC the rest of the year.

You don't think Osborne dangled a string in front of him but don't believe that he was even considered? Those are two conflicting beliefs there.

Since T.O. did interview him and Turner Gill did think he had a shot, I would call that dangling a string in my mind. (Don't think that happened myself)

That looks to me like you just claimed T.O. lied to the press and Husker nation when he told everyone he wouldn't decided anything until the end of the year at his first press conference.

You mean behind the scenes, like seeing who would be interested in the HC job in case they have to fire the head coach. ( Makes sense then doing it the way Pederson handled it.) T.O. even said they sent out feelers.

My main point is that Osborne essentially gave Callahan a rope. Either hang himself or pull himself out. He chose the second option. Osborne offered to help, but when Callahan asked him a question, Osborne didn't have any answers for him or even a suggestion. Osborne layed out the scenario for Callahan fairly clearly. Win or go home. If Callahan stuck with Cosgrove, it was pretty much a given that he was going to be gone.

I would agree with that assessment, and the question Callahan asked is if he had to get rid of anyone on his staff. Osborne said it wasnt his place to tell the head coach who he should have on his staff or what to do. Callahan should have read between the lines that the answer was "Duh, get rid of the DC YOU MORON" (My words)

Osborne's press conference announcing that he fired Callahan. He told Callahan it wasn't his place to tell him who he could and could not have on his staff. Osborne was very tactful in how he acted from the time he took over. Pederson could stand to learn a few things from Osborne.

IMO, the boosters are the ones that put these stipulations on the new HC. I believe many of them are seeing the errors of their way from 4 years ago come back and bite them in the a$$. They brought TO back in as AD to do nothing more than correct a wrong of 4 years ago. The boosters wanted Clownahan gone, and they wanted Pud gone. There may not be anything to this, but this is what I believe. I mean seriously, IBR was getting his info. from a booster. A lot of what he said came to be. This smells of booster interferance to me.

IBR was right on ~50% of what he has said... And most of that coulda been guessed by 80% of people here.

50% of the time, he's right every time.

35% of all statistical fact are made-up during the course of an argument.

just sayin'.
